Hella overpriced but there is something that brings me back time again: the deceptively simple chicken burger with honey mustard and an extra order of that crispy bacon. I can’t resist, especially when I’m super indecisive about where to eat for lunch. Fries are pathetic though, unless they’re smothered with cheese curds and gravy as Triple Os offers(at a price, of course).

I have that love hate relationship with Triple O’s; it serves up things that I really enjoy but the quality is not really that consistent, more is that it is kind of pricey for a fast food joint as such. The roast beef burger is always something that I want to have when I visit Triple O’s but it is just too expensive for a lunch, especially a broke student like me. Chicken tenders is what I order most often there; deep fried for sure but for the sake of eating healthy I will remove the breading on top. Unlike other fast food places serving chicken tenders, Triple O’s uses the whole piece of chicken breast; so for some, the tenders may not be as succulent but for me it’s more than acceptable. Least, they will provide a honey mustard dip on side for you to dunk the tenders in; so it wouldn’t be too bad. Moreover, chicken breast is lean and healthy; you can achieve healthy eating in a fast food place, joy of joys~ I know, i know, so despise me as you wish but what I am about to talk about next is one of my latest happy discoveries, their milkshake. There aren’t many places in Hong Kong that serves proper milkshakes while Triple O’s does it the most authentic way possible. Made with real ice-cream and fresh milk, the milkshakes in Triple O’s are the ones that will give you a brain freeze and the golden arches has no way in beating that. The newest flavor they offer is mint, some may find it distasteful but I, as a mint junky found a lot of pleasure in it. The only problem to me would be it is too sweet for my taste and is so filling that it could be a meal itself rather than being a drink to go with the meal. Anyhow, I guess the love hate relationship will remain until one day I am well off enough to have a lunch that cost over $ 70 without the slightest wince; otherwise, Triple O’s would only be those places that I go like twice to trice a year.

I like burgers, but McDonalds and Burger King just doesn’t cut it for me. The patties are too thin, the lettuce is of questionable freshness, and I actually can’t even recall the last time I had a burger at either fast food joint. Triple O’s, though, is a different story. Originating from Canada, Triple O’s has opened up quite a few outlets ever since it arrived in HK a few years ago. I still remember my very first burger there at the supermarket in Pacific Place years back. I was young then, and was accustomed to cheeseburgers and fish burgers at McDonalds, so this Triple O’s burger was like a breath of fresh air. My favorite burger from Triple O’s actually isn’t on their regular menu — it’s the Prime Shrimp Burger, and it’s a limited item that’s only out once in a while. You’ll know when it is, because there will be a plaque displayed quite prominently at the cashier. Having shrimp instead of the traditional beef patty in a burger is a little strange, no doubt, but it’s actually not bad at all. It kind of tastes like shrimp tempura in a burger, and the shrimp is beautifully breaded. Now, this is my kind of burger! I also like the mushroom burger here — they’re pretty generous with the mushrooms and they go really well with the patty. The poutine here also deserves a special mention — the combination of beef sauce and cheese with fries magically tastes so much better than just fries itself! I find the portion a little big for one person so I usually share with a friend. Granted, Triple O’s isn’t the cheapest fast food place out there — but compare it to the likes of McDonalds and Burger King — the burgers are bigger and the ingredients are fresher, so it’s well worth the price to me!
