Toys “R” Us

When I was a little kid, my folks used to take me to either Causeway bay or Kowloon Tong at least once a week. And my favourite place to be had to be Toy’s R Us. I mean, who would not be ecstatic if you are to be surrounded by alleys of toys in bright colours? I still recall I sometimes cried my way to get a new toy every time I went there (spoiled much… hmm…)
Therefore, years after, I am all grown-​up and I can barely remember when my last time to be in Toys R Us. About two years ago I heard the news of Toys R Us coming to Tuen Mun and I was determined to pay it a visit. I remember the opening day was packed. To be honest, though I managed to get in, I was left quite disappointed. This branch looks rather like in a warehouse. Where are the bright colours? Where are the big display windows where you can see all kind of toys?
Then it hit me. It is not about me saying goodbye to my childhood but more to do with technology. Honestly, when was the last time you see a little kid enjoying himself or herself so much playing with an actual toy? Nowadays, kids just play with technology — tablets and stuff. Then I went to the one in Causeway bay, turned out it has moved. The Kowloon Tong one is closed. Yup. It is a rather difficult time for toys business. Although the kids nowadays will never understand the joy surrounded with toys, I do hope that places like this can come through one day.
