This bowling alley is large, spacious and well maintained. The communal bowling balls and rental shoes don’t feel or look gross and you don’t feel like you’ll catch a disease from using them. The actual scoring system feels a little bit dated but it still works. You or someone with you needs to have a membership with the South China Athletic Association in order to access the bowling alley, but it’s only $ 120. Lastly, the food that is served there is really good! Definitely better than I expected. Specifically, the beef and egg sandwich was delicious. The bread is grilled so that it’s crispy and there is plenty of filling inside.

The bowling alley at SCAA is easily the most convenient to get to out of all for all you islanders out there. Situated on Caroline Hill Road near Lee Gardens, the bowling alley is only accessible if you or somebody you are with is a member. But fear not, membership costs only $ 120 and can be done on the spot, plus you’ll have access to a range of other facilities too like the gym and the golfing range. On weekdays, a game here costs $ 24 — $ 32 if you come after 6pm. On weekends, it’s a little pricier at $ 37, regardless of the time you come at, and shoe rental costs $ 10. These prices are more or less the prices of other bowling alleys in HK. What I like about the bowling alley at SCAA, besides its location, of course, is that the facility feels very new and exclusive. If I’m not wrong, it underwent a renovation a few years back — I remember when I was around 9 or 10, my father brought me here and the bowling alley was in a pretty decrepit state. It was really dim and everything just looked very old. Okay, it’s been more than a few years since the renovation, but it looks as good as new. Compared to Thunderbowl, another popular bowling alley at Hung Hom, I prefer SCAA as it just feels more private and less rowdy. After a game or two, head up to the bar Inn Side Out for a drink. It’s a nice, spacious bar with a nice variety of beers, and best of all, there’s no service charge! The do happy hour till 8pm, so there’s no reason not to pop by! Be sure to book early for a game here — as the only bowling facility on the island that isn’t part of an exclusive club or a residence, it’s no wonder this place is as popular as it is!
