This Gem is hidden near the Wan Chai wet market just opposite to the popular fruit stalls. You may walk past it as there is no sign from the restaurant. The interior is simple stylish, the large window front offers a good view on the buzzing wan chai road. The all french waiting staff are very friendly and attentive. They are happy to give you recommendations as well as telling you about the specials. They have a nice wine list, mostly french wines. Ask the sommelier for suggestions, she is very knowledgeable. Until recently they had very simple menu. You could select between the small or the large set menu. They would ask you if you had any food allergies etc. or preferences but after that it was up to the kitchen what they would serve. The kitchen did always a very good job. The dishes were carefully thought of and all matched very well. 2 signature dishes always came with the set, their incredible chocolate cake and the out of world homemade macaroons. Both to die for. Nowadays they have changed this concept and serve a la carte. I like this change as the quality of the food is still amazing. Portions are not too big so you can try a lot of different dishes. Both chocolate cake and macaroons are still available! Serge et Le Phoque is not cheap but worth every penny.

Perfect for those who love long dinners and multi-course meals. While neither of those are my personal preference, service was excellent and the food was superb. Best enjoyed with a group of friends. We ordered le Grand Phoque, a 8-course degustation menu which was HKD850 a head. The menu changes according to the chef’s preferences, and this what we had: 1. Squid tempura & mussels on skewers 2. Frogs legs & a cucumber/seaweed cold purée salad 3. Tuna takaki salad 4. Razor clams 5. Snapper with tiny japanese crab 6. Quail 7. Selection of cheeses 8. Dark chocolate tart & capsicum mousse 9. Bonus macaroonish profiterole! As most diners will have either opt for the petit Phoque(5-course) or Grand Phoque(8-course), the optimal dinner time is 7pm. Get there too early at 6.30pm and you will probably have to wait a little longer between first to the third course as dish serving times standardize across all tables.

Such kind hosting. Really passionate people. We’re not so sophisticated or used to haute cuisine… and didn’t have the time we should … seems the food is more fancy than the look of the restaurant suggests… and the bill is accordingly… just come here with the right expectations… take yr time to enjoy and relax…
