Sen-Ryo is a classic conveyor belt sushi joint with what I believe is the best value sushi in Central(i.e. Quality of the sushi is really good relative to the price). My favourite sushi pieces are the«seared» anything — the salmon(oh yes!!!), eel — unagi and the scallop. The place is no frills, even if it looks a little fancy from outside. Just come in and order away. There is a saying, «you get what you pay for», At Sen-Ryo, «you get what you pay for and more.» Strong recommendation, if you have a strong sushi craving and don’t want to break the bank.

If 3.5 was an option, we would have picked that. Sen-Ryo was not grea enough to warrent a 4 though. We went because of the reviews about Sen-Ryo being«the best/price value on sushi.» We went for lunch on a Saturday around 1pm or so. Traffic was busy, but not crazy. They have the conveyor belt that moves sushi past you and you pick off the belt as you see anything you like(sometimes difficult to know what some of the items are on the conveyor belt, that is why ordering from the menu might be easier for some stuff). We ordered some from the menu to ensure freshness and we also pulled some from the conveyor belt. It was a good value and we felt like we got a good meal for our money. My husband and I both agreed that the sushi was fresh, but the quality was not solidly there. The salmon from the menu was not spectacular, almost pale pink and white and a little too fatty, whereas the salmon from the conveyor belt was more what we were use to, bright orange and quite good. Spicket on table is for hot water and green powder on table is green tea powder. Put water in cup, add green tea powder to taste. No charge. So we might go again, not sure. Would not be worth the wait to us if there was a line, but if no line and we were in area, we might pop in again and give it another shot.

Small kaiten sushi place with a good selection on the menu. The sushi came out quick and the service was really great. Really loved the fried prawn sushi roll, although was a bit daunting with its head still attached! They didn’t have a salmon sushi hand roll on the menu but they made it for me anyway!

I was once asked what are the three things I couldn’t live without — sushi made my list. As a pre-cursor to this review, I love sushi. If I could, I would eat it every day(I almost do) and I spend far too much time dreaming about it. I have had the super fancy, cost you an arm and a leg sushi, to the packet sushi from park-and-shop… so I eat across the board. Sen-ryo is quite possibly one of my new favourite cheap sushi joints. It’s quick, easy and well priced. The fish is always fresh and tasty. They don’t give you too much rice which lets you taste your slab of fish a bit better too. My favourite thing to eat here is the crispy salmon skin handroll. It makes me smile even thinking about it. The only downside is that at lunchtime this place is heaving. Although they seat you rather quickly(and servers are quite quirky), they often forget to bring you dishes if you’ve ordered, but once you’ve gently reminded the wait staff of your order(eerrr, mm goi, bindo-ah wo de sushi?) it soon arrives at your table. As an adventurous lunch treat, we tried the«seared red shrimp in butter» and it was by far the most mouth watering piece of sushi on our table. At $ 22 it was a steal. It was all so tasty(and I was hungry), I didn’t take any photos as I was too busy smashing sushi in my face. Nom!

Sen-ryo is definitely a good place to get good-value sushi in Central. Given most Japanese restaurants in the neighborhood are quite expensive, if you have craving for some cheap sushi that’s not bad, come to Sen-ryo. As you can imagine, since this place is rather cheap for sushi nearby, it does get quite packed during dinner hours especially on weekdays. The crowd waiting just outside of the elevator can be quite overwhelming sometimes. The best time to come here is actually on Sunday. There’s almost never a line here for early lunch or dinner on Sundays. It’s often a place where I come for a quick sushi fix before going to LKF.(You know it’s not funny to spend a night drinking without some carbs in your belly!) If there’s a long line, the option is to order sushi for takeout. Mind you though, the wait for them to pack your order can take up to 20 minutes during peak hours. Sen-ryo has a wide range of sushi and sashimi. Unless you are starving, I recommend you order them directly instead of getting the plates from the conveyor belt as the sushi will then be freshly made to order. They also have a good choice of cooked dishes like skewers, snacks, noodles and soup. If you want a drink, they also have a good choice of sake. They let you choose your own colorful sake glasses too!
