I went here last night and will return for lunch today! So good. The set up is unusual and haphazard but don’t let that scare you away. Also, been using Unilocal for years and this is the first review I have written so that is saying a lot. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because we ordered a couple of items that we never received. Of course, they took it off the bill but it was a bit challenging for a non-Cantonese reader:)

Food is pretty good and prices reasonable. There is no décor to speak of and it’s location inside a commercial building was a little odd. Servers were friendly though. The taste was authentic. Ordered the lemon fish and the fish was fresh. Soup serving was small

Delicious food, good value and great vibe! These are the words I’m going to say about Sawali Club! Just as we sat down at Sawali Club, the Chinese-Thai owner, Chingmy, started coming out with her microphone and sang in Thai. Apparently every table at the restaurant was celebrating birthdays. With the lead of Chingmy, all the waitresses started coming out and danced along. Although we didn’t celebrate anyone’s birthday at our table, we enjoyed the vibe and clapped along with the Thai birthday song. When it comes to food, you’re rest assured you can get authentic Thai food here. We pre-ordered 2 plates of raw shrimp in advance and they were very fresh! We also ordered some beef and chicken satay skewers, shrimp cakes and fish cakes as appetizers. Oh my lord… the fish cakes were the best I’ve ever tried! Chewy yet not fishy! For the main course, we had pork knuckles, grilled fish with lemon sauce(served on the grill), curry with deep fried chicken and the stir-fried clams in chili paste. Everything was rich in flavor and simply delicious!!! For dessert, of course we cannot miss the mango sticky rice! There was not one dish that was just mediocre. I must say everything was excellent here! Sawali Club is a private kitchen, so do book in advance and they only accept cash. I recommend this place for groups as you can order many dishes to share.

I dont think I know anybody who doesn’t like Thai food. It’s bold, robust with flavor, there’s vegetables, theres noodles, theres meat, I mean the margin of error here is very small. It’s simply just good food, anytime, with anyone. Usually on Sundays, my grandma would come out to have dinner with the whole family. One of her favourite go-to spots is this Thai restaurant we went to tonight, called Sawali Club. It’s is located on the second floor of the Wing Cheong Building. A little bit hard to find, but once found, you will be so happy, I assure you. More times than not, it is fully packed. You walk in smelling aromas that tickle your palate. We always make sure we are super hungry before we go to this restaurant because it never disappoints. We love their pork neck they serve here. It is so tender and juicy and it comes with a chilli but not very spicy oil sauce that is just divine. I put that sauce on everything! We also always order the raw shrimp with garlic. I’m a big fan of this, but if you can’t take heat, then make sure that no chilli flakes are on your shrimp because they use Thai chilli and that stuff burnsssss! We also never fail to order the thai with nan bread. Their nan is so good. Buttery goodness and chewy! Dip it in the curry and its heaven in your mouth. The crab is divine as well, but that might just be because we are a crab family. So if you love crab, make sure you order it, they cook it in a paste that is just full of flavour, you’ll end up licking your fingers after. For carbs, we usually get the pad thai. Why order anything else in a thai restaurant right? Always go for the staples. That’s my theory. For dessert, my family like the mango sticky rice. I’m not a big fan of this but it still tasted really good. Remember to call in advance to book because it gets full fast. It’s not that clean looking but its definitely authentic tasting.
