A small shop with a tiny open kitchen and many patrons eating their breakfasts, plus a line out the door? That’s good enough visual for me to wander into this restaurant specializing in jook(congee). The beef jook was very tasty and filling. The beef chunks were thin and tender, and the jook consistency was smooth and thick. It’s not the ideal breakfast for a warm and humid October morning, but the fresh cold soy milk was mildly sweet and refreshing to help balance the temperature. On the side, I had the rice noodle-wrapped fried doughnut. Drizzled with a bit of soy sauce, it was a little on the salty side. However, the rice noodle had good texture(not too sticky or chewy) and the fried doughnut was chewy on the inside and crispy on the outside. Overall everything tasted very fresh and delicious! This shop may be small, but service was quick and friendly. Despite a line, you’ll be seated within a few minutes. This is a great place in Mong Kok for a satisfying meal for under $ 40HKD.

The jook here is awesome! While I was visiting Hong Kong one of my travel companions really wanted to find a place with good jook with no MSG. My local friend brought me here while we were in the Mongkok area and this is just a little mom and pop shop on the street. I had the sliced pork jook and it was really nice on the palate, not overly salty as some places would make it. The taste of the pork was clean and flavorful and came through instead of being hidden by white pepper and salt. The fried donut wrapped in rice noodle was among one of the best that I’ve ever had. The donut was lightly crispy with a chewy center. The rice noodle was warm and embraced the donut. The sweet soy sauce soaked in nicely and made every bite super tasty and savory.
