At one point in time, this was my go-to dai pai dong style restaurant. Even though it was indoors, the ambiance and décor would really evoke an outdoor, dai pai dong feel. There were even a couple of cats that would randomly walk around and presumably keep the establishment rodent free. It was the charm of this place, combined with the late night hours that made it a super convenient place after a night out at Knuttsford Terrace( ). As I understand it, those days are gone. Muike(妹記) is closed. This was the ultimate spot for group dining action. Get bowls of harbin beer, fill it to the brim and cheers over a plethora of Cantonese quality food. I especially enjoyed their fried omelette pancakes(蠔餅), ying yang fish(鴛鴦蒸烏頭), shrimp and egg(蝦仁炒蛋), salty spinach(鹹魚茸飛天通菜), and their special fried rice(揚州炒飯). I could usually get away with ordering 8 dishes for somewhere around 450HKD, which for HK these days is rather fantastic. They had a gritty edge to them, horrendous bathrooms, and some HK service to throw on top of it. They knew they were popular and were a hit with the late night crowd, including me. I’ve heard from the Mong Kok location( ) that the TST location isn’t actually closed but is simply reincarnating somewhere else. Whew. Right now the Mui Kee management won’t disclose the new location. That’s totally fine, I can’t wait to see where they pop up next.

This is a HK dai pai dong themed restaurant. Great for the experience in a tourist-friendly TST location. Food is pretty average but drinking beer from the bowl is kind of fun. Tip: Come early(i.e. before 7pm) because the line becomes extremely long after that, even on a weeknight.

As most of you already know, a large number of actual dai pai dong spots have shut down(大牌檔) due to hygiene issues. So a ton of them are moving into locations like this to recreate the entire«outdoor stall» eating experience. They’ve done a pretty decent job of recreating the experience from the wall decors to appear as an outdoor environment, along with the floor looking like concrete or asphalt. Even the seating arrangement such as the type of chairs and tables used are made to give it this no-frills type of feel. You’ve got the typical dai pai dong fare here, ranging from seafood to veggies(quite oily and salty I must say, haha) to some damn tasty clay pot rice(煲仔飯). The stir fried salted black bean clams are a must have! Eat that right along with a bowl of the clay pot rice and you’ll be mixing some tasty flavors that’ll just make your taste buds water! And as always, order one of those huge beers so you can dine like a local!
