Great price, they allow walk-ins, and they gave me a good hair cut and style. Cons: No smiles from anyone, a bit cramped and busy, and not very good English. If you are looking for a quick hair cut with no pampering, this is a good find. Especially in overpriced Central.

Place rating: 4 Hong Kong
Michel Rene have been cutting my hair for years and now even half of my friends have switched from their overpriced fancy expat salons to a reliable cut from brother/sister team Katherine and Kenny. Admittedly, this is not the place to get creative with a whole new look, but if you’re looking for a trim and a tidy up, this if the place. You can even get your nails done at the same time and the therapist does a fantastic job but it can be a slightly awkward affair with salon traffic stepping over you extended feet every few seconds. Michel Rene is most definitely a no frills affair and you may have to move seats a couple of times before you’re good to go, but the price is what draws the crowd — a women’s cut for $ 200 and blow dries for $ 180 makes this the perfect choice for those looking to glam up for Friday night drinks without going home first. I seek out Katherine to save me from Hong Kong humidity with a Brazilian Blowout three times a year. At $ 1200, it’s a fraction of the price of salons such as The Firm and The Strand and I have no complaints about the results– smooth, glossy hair with zero chemical damage and enough money left over to show off my newly tamed lid around town. If you fancy yourself a regular, it’s worth leaving a bottle of your own Kerestase shampoo(available for purchase on site) with your stylist for a slightly more luxurious experience.
