Place rating: 4 Hong Kong
Lux is one of the best bars in Lan Kwai Fong. The only reason that I didn’t give it five stars is that I’m not much of a drinker(I drink less than 10 times a year). However, due to the invitation of a good friend to try out this establishment, I’ve been going back for more than three times. Lux is one half bar one half tapas restaurant, a two-level establishment in the heart of Lan Kwai Fong. Managed by Lan Kwai Fong Entertainments(yes there is an «s»), the brain behind the transformation of Lan Kwai Fong from sleepy side street to Hong Kong’s party central, you know that this place knows its stuff well. Their drinks menu consists of meticulously-crafted martinis, vodka from Belvedere, cognac liqueur from Grand Marnier, cocktails, shooters, mocktails, whisky, single malts, bourbon, cognac, spirits, beer, prosecco, champagne, and lastly, white and red wine. That is quite a list. So much so that I couldn’t read through everything and just skimmed the heading and finally ordered a classic mojito. I was with a friend who is an occasional drinker but this time, to my surprise, just ordered a mocktail — a simple raspberry smoothie. We also got to sample their tapas, specifically the three-piece grilled skewer, which contained an assortment of chicken, beef, and lamb, suspended from a metal frame. Presentation is clearly well-thought out. The lower floor is an ideal place to people-watch; lovers quarreling, lovers kissing, drunk people hailing taxis, the list just goes on. Overall, it’s a place where I would visit again — for the drinks, tapas, or both.
