Good price– for $ 128, I can enjoy the wide range of anti pasti buffet and the dessert selection is wonderful! Very good value for money in the south side. Try hainan chicken next time!

Having department team lunch at L’Hotel last Friday. With reservation, we got a long table at a semi-private area of the restaurant, which is good for the boss’s speech. It’s a semi-buffet lunch with a wide range of salad /appetiser /soup /dessert for the buffet. There are many choices for the main course too, which the nicely cooked and elegantly presented. The pan seared salmon is nicely cooked which the centre is mildly raw, enriching the texture of the salmon steak. Yummy!

Looking for a hotel to have a nice and hearty buffet at? Yes, there’s the big names like Conrad, Mandarin Oriental and the Ritz-Carlton, but I’d recommend one that’s a little off the beaten path, but great nonetheless. I’m talking about L’hotel South tucked away in Wong Chuk Hang. For all you south siders, you might be familiar with it — it’s on your left every time you’re on Wong Chuk Hang road and going in the direction of the Aberdeen tunnel. On the third floor of the hotel is the buffet restaurant, LIS Café. LIS Café serves the standard hotel buffet fare — you can get some salad to start with, picking from an array of vegetables and sauces, go towards the sushi bar to nurse that Japanese food craving, head for a little but of all the main courses and finish off with a sinful but some oh-so-satisfying dessert. The service here is great — every time you return to your table, your plate will have been whisked away by a waiter, ready for a new plate of food to take its place. The waiters are polite and speak good English as well. One of my favorite dishes at the LIS Café was the roast beef — it was roasted to perfection and was beautifully tender. I’ve been to hotel buffets where the roast beef is cold and quite tough, but it wasn’t the case here. There’s a wonderful selection of dessert as well — a special mention goes to the milk pudding, which is super soft and creamy. The cakes, especially the tiramisu, are great too and there’s even a crêpe station! I think having the buffet at LIS is definitely worth the trip to L’hotel. Because it’s not in the more glamorous parts of the city like Central and TST, the buffet here isn’t as expensive as at other four or five stars hotel, but the quality and variety of the food is not to be overlooked. Remember to save a decent amount of appetite for the dessert — you’ll regret it if you don’t!
