Lei Garden is my family’s go-to place for dim sum. I’ve been here numerous times and it never disappoints. For lunch, we often order a few dim sum, a pot of soup of the day and a plate of stir-fried noodles. The daily soup they offer is very rich and tasty. As the Chinese say, it’s boiled with«old fire», meaning it’s simmered with good ingredients for a long time. It’s quite hard to find good-quality soup in Chinese restaurants these days yet Lei Garden is one of the few that does an excellent job on the soup. The stir-fried noodles and rice dishes are very well done as you can tell every piece of noodle is evenly flavored. The only thing I wish they could do better is their dim sum. The flavor is great but the size of most of their dumplings is quite small and they don’t have a wide range of dim sum. Every time we come here, we just close our eyes and name all the regular dim sum we get. As this perhaps the most decent dim sum restaurant in the entire Shatin district, there are many office workers coming here for group lunch on weekdays, whereas big families occupy all of the tables on weekends. Book ahead if you don’t want to wait for too long!
