This boutique Italian grocery store sells a wide assortment of(you guessed it) Italian food items at reasonable prices. Yu will find ready-made dishes, large sandwiches, cooking items, and a good assortment of wine. In addition, they sell Peroni. The deli counter offers a nice selection of meats and cheeses. One of their small salami choices is the closest I have found to American pepperoni for making homemade pizza. This shop offers two tables in the back that allow you to offer off their ready-made menu and dine in! Forget going to an overpriced Italian eatery in Soho(Italian is designed to be cheap) when you can get a reasonably priced meat in an interesting setting.(Seats ~10 people maximum.)

I really LOVE this tiny shop. The prices are comparable to Wellcome, depending on what you buy, but the quality is MUCH better! They have an assortment of italian pastas and sauces. They have loaves of bread which they keep in a small heated container to keep it fresh. It seems that they sell new bread everyday. But I don’t know for sure. It just seems like it. They sell this really good Mango Juice! Try it! They also sell cold cuts which I really really miss since I’ve moved to HK from NYC — A small selection but good quality cuts! They also cater!!! I’ve haven’t dined in here before. BUT, I’ve taken a sandwich to-go(from the location on Queen’s road). The sandwich is just«OK». I’d rather buy the cold cuts and make it myself. Credit Cards have a minimum of 50 $ HKD purchase!

il Bel Paese is the place to come for anything Italian — food wise that is, you won’t be able to buy Italian loafers here. The original store was on Caine Road, but has since moved to a bigger location, still on Caine Road. There are also a number of store throughout HK, varying in size and service. The Caine Road location offers fresh and packaged groceries, take-away, in-store dining, and home delivery. For me the two winners here are; the amazing range of Italian groceries, and the dine-in menu. In the shop, you will find a cold counter stocked full of amazing cheeses and cooked meats, flown in fresh from Italy, another cold counter with ready made meals and salads, fresh bread, and out the back, a few shelves stocking packaged Italian goods, again flown in. These include pasta, tinned vegetables, passata, olives, oils, the list goes on. There is also a small selection of fresh vegetables, but these are no better than the Wellcome down the road. The groceries vary in expense, and are not hugely friendly to the environment, being imported by air. However, sometimes you just need porcini mushrooms, and nothing else will do. An example of costs; buffalo mozzarella will cost HKD50 for 125g, which is I suppose fairly standard in HK, but a ready made potato salad will cost HKD65, which to me is a bit expensive. Conversely, I find that dining in is very reasonable. For HKD70, you can get a really good(OK, not the biggest, but really tasty) lasagne. Throw in a garden salad for HKD44, that’s dinner sorted. The food is very well prepared in the on-site kitchen, and is made form the freshest ingredients, again flown in. The dine-in atmosphere is very casual café, you can’t help but remember that you are in the middle of a grocery store, but definitely worth it for the food.
