The three times I’ve stayed here, you just have to ask nicely and they usually upgrade you to a Marina View room that have amazing views overlooking the sea. Reception desk is incredibly patient and friendly especially with its more difficult customers. Every morning, newspaper is neatly hung on your door and room service food was acceptable. When we asked for towels, we were promptly visited by hotel staff. My only comment is that the hotel itself is ageing and the carpet and furnishings are becoming outdated. The swimming pool is right next to the restaurant buffet seating which can be a little awkward to swim in and the gym and fitness centre is open 24 hours. Great. They have paid hotel shuttles to the Airport, Tsuen Wan and Tsim Sha Tsui relatively frequently and you do not need to be a hotel guest to use these services.

Having had relatives who actually stayed in this hotel recently I think I should be qualified to write a review on it. The hotel itself is in a beautiful location, right on the coastline off Tuen Mun and if you try not to look over to tuen Mun itself, you are greeted with views of the Airport in a distance, the entire north shore of Lantau Island and all the different bridges in a distance. Location wise I would not complain and I challenge anyone to find me a better view than this(and at this price as well). Lobby and general area? I would say dated but good. The design and décor is «luxurious» but from an era long gone– its just a bit too 90’s for me. the good thing is that they have kept the place immaculate and as such I really have no quelms at tall with this. Afterall, no one is asking you to sleep in the lobby. There are a few restaurants in the hotel itself and I went to the Yue Chinese restaurant which is very, very good. Michelin good. The rooms? Well, I didn’t stay there but visually they were big and clean with a view of the sea. You can’t expect it to be the peninsula here but with these prices I don’t think you would be expecting it anyways. Facilities are the general ones you would expect from a full sized hotel and don’t forget that you have the beach right next door. Comments? Good for families and special occasions. Stick to town if you are tourists.

Given that I live in Tuen Mun myself, under normal circumstances I probably will not rent a room at this hotel anyway; unless it is someone’s birthday party or a Hens party. And this time is because of the latter reason. I will spare you all of the details as I do not think anyone wants to know how crazy that night went. As a matter of fact, I recommended this place to my friends mainly because I started loving this place ever since I was little. I used to come here with my parents for the buffet here. You know for a little kid, when you are surrounded by all kind of food, you are bound to get his heart. And I was one of them. I could not really say how good the food was given the last time I went there was years ago. However, the memory there is still very vivid. I suppose it looks very different now but I have heard from people that it seems Gold Coast Hotel has only been better. What I also like to do even now is the beach there. I believe it is the only beach in Tuen Mun that is not as secluded but not too packed. The beach itself is very pretty together with the western architecture around it. People here are rather mixed, you can tell there have been more expats living nearby(probably because of the international boarding school nearby). Yet, I am just glad it has yet to attract some tourists from that certain area. Give it five more years and we shall all see.
