Hello Hong Kong

We met our guide, Jess, at 8:00 at the Clock Tower in the Tsim Sha Tsui shopping center to begin our 4 hour walking tour of Hong Kong. She was just delightful and immediately we formed a bond. We looked at the sights and then walked around Kowloon a bit before we took a ferry to the business center of Hong Kong. Once there, we took a taxi ride to the top of Victoria Peak. But instead of taking the touristy elevator and paying to go to the top to the observation tower, Jess suggested we walk a short path to an outstanding viewpoint. The day was gorgeous and the walk was an easy one. What sights we saw — all of Hong Kong was ours for the viewing! Jess explained what we were looking at and we just soaked in the atmosphere. From here we took the cable car DOWN the peak instead of the usual tourist idea to take the ride UP the peak. By doing it in reverse, we avoided the crowds. By the time we got to the bottom, the line to go up in the cable car was at least 45 minutes long. We were SO thankful that Jess knew her way around and was able to use her tricks of the trade to make our trip so easy and yet to get the full effect. From the cable car area, we walked by St. Johns Cathedral and saw the architecture of the HSBC and the bullet-​pocked lions there. We then took a tram up Queens Road Central to the Lin Heung Kui Tea House where we sampled simply heavenly dim sum with Jess’s expert giudance. We ate and ate and loved it all, sampling pork and shrimp dumplings, shrimp dumplings, steamed BBQ pork bun, steamed garlic shrimp, spring roll, crispy shrimp wonton and a few others. We were stuffed but it was incredibly delicious. This is definitely a place where we would have never ventured on our own since it is frequented by locals. It was most definitely a highlight of the day. Yum! We then walked down the Medicine Street and Jess took us to the Cat Street Market and showed us how to get to the Man Mo Temple. Our tour was over at the market and we said a fond farewell to Jess. Hong Kong was our first stop on a 3 week adventure in Southeast Asia and she put the perfect start to our trip. We can highly recommend Hello Hong Kong and Jess — just an incredible company and an incredible guide. I am sure they are all excellent but we felt like we had hit the jackpot with Jess. She was amazing and so sweet and courteous as well. We loved our time with her and marveled at her knowledge, having lived in Hong Kong a relatively short period of time. She is an experienced guide, though, having been a guide in other parts of SE Asia. You are in good hands with Hello Hong Kong and Jess!

Nathan very good guide. Worth doing early in your stay to get a feel for the City. The BBQ stop in particular was first rate.

Nathan did a fantastic job of showing us around HK and introducing us to the cuisine. The small group setting is nice as it allows you to interact with others throughout the day.
The stops included a traditional dim sum restaurant (average), a bbq pork spot (very good), a noodle shop (ok), a milk tea vendor (ok), and ended with an egg tart (worth skipping).
I actually didn’t feel like I ate very much on the tour. The dim sum spot offered the best chance to fill up but it was first and we were advised to pace ourselves. My advice would be, order lots of pork at the bbq place and don’t be shy about what you want at the dim sum spot.
Food wise I don’t feel you get a great value on your tour but you do get your money’s worth from the guide. Nathan’s emails after the tour were a huge help in planning the rest of our trip. He provided lots of recommendations for bars, restaurants, day trips, etc. During the tour he was very informative and I learned a lot.

Niya was an AMAZING tour guide. She showed us the real Hong Kong and brought us to several food and drink spots that I would have never thought to stop at if I were on my own. Her food and drink recommendations were spot on as well. She gave us all kinds of facts on the local culture, the history, Chinese medicine, and backgrounds of all the places we visited. She also followed up with emails of our great photo moments and lots of info on spots to visit and nightlife in HK. If I didn’t know better, I would have thought she lived her whole life here! It was a pleasure spending the day with her eating, drinking, and running around the city. I’d recommend this tour to everyone with a few hours to spare while in HK — it’s something you’ll never experience on your own.

Laura’s tours were the highlight of our trip! For our first time coming to Hong Kong, it was great to have someone show us around and recommend places to eat and visit. I loved that at the end of the tours she sent us an email with pictures from the tour, the names of places we had visited, and even some book recommendations we had talked about during our tour. I was nervous that the tour was going to be very «touristy» with not a lot of substance, but I learned a ton and had a great time walking around and exploring the city! I would recommend this to anyone looking to learn more about Hong Kong!

Really made the trip worth it!
Flew into Hong Kong on Holiday and didn’t really know what to expect. I have never been there before and most of the guide books I purchased before were not too helpful outside of the usual tourist traps. Laura and Nathan were extremely helpful in showing the great hidden gems of Hong Kong and its local flavor. It really was not just Hello Hong Kong, but Ill see you again soon new friend!

If your a foodie and like to be immersed into the local scene (very local) this should be the tour for you. Michael was our tour guide who was extremely knowledgable on the history, food, culture etc,. If it’s your first time and want to taste local food and also get some recommendations for later, take the Hello HK tour.

Thank you Jess!!! My Parents and I have been absolutely excited about the incredible experience exploring Hong Kong with you! The individual destinations with all the background stories showed us a lot about the city and the culture of Hong Kong. Additionally we also went to a local place getting to know dumplings and the adorable gesture of washing your dishes before eating. Jess was incredibly nice, super pleasant and funny which made the tour just more special. Altogether we had an excellent personalized half a day tour which was a great adventure. My next stay will definitely start again with a Hello Hong Kong tour — absolutely interesting and funny experience!

Outstanding pulse of the Hong Kong Culture and Cuisine via this tour with Jess. Highly recommended for friends traveling together or business travelers with spare time to feel the pulse of HK. Our tour guide, Jess, was wonderful.

I did the Hello Hong Kong food tour on my first day in HK with Jess and it was amazing! Bring a solo traveler, doing the tour on my first day really helped to orientate myself with the city, but it was also so much fun! Jess was great, super friendly and welcoming which made it felt less like a tour and more of a fun outing with friends! Of course the food was also fantastic and offered a great variety for everyone and a true taste of HK; in places I may not have visited without the tour! I definitely recommend Hello Hong Kong tours to anyone visiting HK, they were great with communication and very professional. In addition, Jess provided me with really thorough directions with pictures to other points of interest that really helped me during my stay!

The several hours I spent touring Hong Kong with Laura and Nathan were a highlight of my visit. Via subway, the Star Ferry, and taxi, we visited a variety of neighborhoods and specific destinations such as the Jade Market, which I asked to see. We went, as well, to working-​class Sham Shui Po, with its fascinating squatters’ shacks atop multistoried apartment buildings; to the electronics market, where Laura astutely but pleasantly bargained for toy drones for me to take home as gifts; to Lin Heung Kui tea house for yum cha – tea and dumplings from wheeled trolleys; and to window shop for antiques on Hollywood Road. Laura and Nathan were both well informed and wonderfully congenial, so the day was successful in every way. I’m already looking forward to my next visit with them.
