Walk in Hong Kong

Walk In Hong Kong is a tour company that specialises in guided walks around Hong Kong. They have a number tours, which tend to be either based on a particular location, or based on a theme, like urban myths, festivals, or even the cemeteries.
The tours are usually about 3 – 5 hours, and take place day and night, depending on the theme. They are conducted by a English speaking local, which is great as they understand the history, language and culture, and impart this to their guests, but can be sometimes a bit bothersome, as their English isn’t 100% fluent, and you have to get over that odd meter of Asian speech. The guides are very friendly and knowledgable though, so you should have a good, informative time.
On these tours, they provide radio headsets, which is a really innovative touch, as you can spread out a bit as a group and enjoy the scenery, yet still hear the stories and lectures. Group sizes are moderate at about 20 people, of course depending on the popularity of the tour.
As well as the sights and sounds of modern HK, the guides also bring some props, historical photos (via iPad), and other items to enrich the tour experience.
The prices for tours are around HKD250, which isn’t cheap, but for an occasional «different» activity (we can’t always eat out and go to the pub!), I think it is well worth it.
When considering tours, you may prefer to go on one of the more established routes, whether it be location or theme based. I went on a recent Ghost Festival tour, and whilst it was fun and engaging, I didn’t feel it was very well structured. It felt like it was a first draft speech, and this was probably due to this tour only running twice a year.
