Happy Cake shop provided me with the only disappointing menu item on my entire trip in Hong Kong this year — word to the wise, don’t buy their gai pai (chicken pies).
We arrived around 6 pm on a Friday night, and they were sold out of the dan tats that we made the trek out to get. We ended up settling for the most mediocre chicken pie that we’ve ever had — crumbly (not flakey) crust, with a filling that was mostly fat and cream.
I think Happy Cake Shop (despite the cheery name) is an easy ‘miss’ during your travels.

While there’s no standout item, the big plus with this place is that everything is prepare with really attention and care. The little imperfections that you get when something is made by hand are evident here, which is a welcome change from the dull uniformity of the chain bakery shops around HK. Skip Maxims and come here instead.
