Elite Event: Whisky Tasting With Platinum @ Bar Six

Big ups to the fearless CM in Hong Kong, Kevin L, for letting a little old Elite from Queens into this event!
I’m not typically much of a whiskey drinker but I actually quite enjoyed all of them, with the two standouts being the Suntory Hakushu and the Laphroaig Select Cask. The venue itself was easy to find and I definitely didn’t expect it to be that beautiful, with an outdoor area to boot!
We were quickly greeted by a Platinum Wine and Jelena Z checked us in with our name tags. The free cocktail as the check-​in offer was icing on the cake, and the bartender was gracious enough to provide my sister with a free drink even though she couldn’t check in on the app (stupid international roaming charges).
I believe Will (?) was our tasting guide for the evening, and his knowledge and passion for whiskey were off the charts, kilt included. I usually only taste a burning sensation when I drink liquor, so it was quite unexpected to be able to taste different flavors during the tasting: from green tea, to smoky bacon and maple syrup, it was like my taste buds were on a walkabout.
The Auchentoshan Three Wood had the strong chocolatey maple syrup taste to it, and was a strong contender for one of the best whiskeys I’ve had, but not for long…
The Suntory The Hakushu was freakin’ great! It had a nice, light taste to it with definite flavors of green tea in there. It was a very delicate flavor that went down super smooth. If you would’ve told me it was just a really spicy green tea, I would’ve believed it, but then I wouldn’t been passed out under the table if I drank it like tea.
The GlenDronach was also very nice with the fruitiness from the sherry casks coming through, this was probably my #3.
My other favorite along with the Suntory was the Laphroaid Select Cask, mainly because I love bacon, and this had that smoky bacon flavor… er peaty flavor that Will mentioned.

Thanks to Kevin, we had a great time at Bar Six tasting four different types of whiskey. We particularly liked the Glendronach Allardice 18 years, which had a moreish caramel flavour. Andrew is usually fond of Japanese whiskeys, and was blown away when we were asked if we could taste green tea in the sample.
Bar Six is a great cosy spot. The roof area makes it a gem in Hong Kong. Definitely returning for casual drinks with friends. Thanks Kev for a wonderful night!

Thanks Kevin for organising this whisky testing event. It was a great opportunity to catch up with a couple of friends while testing four distinct yet interesting whiskies.
Being a beginner but heavily interested to know more about the whisky world, it was definitely a great place to be.
Appreciate Unilocal for hosting this event and providing a great excuse to drink up with friends and like minds — in a classy and fashionable way.

Thanks to Kevin for arranging the whisky tasting event last night. To me as a whisky beginner, this has been a great whisky 101. Having the chance to chat with the whisky experts from Platinum Wine, who also sponsored the 4 whiskys of the night, we have learnt how to appreciate whisky as welll as whisky investment. We also had a great time exchanging views with other Unilocalers on the sampled whisky. Once again, this has been an enjoyable Unilocal event. :)

Great, well-​planned event by Kevin L. once again! Had the opportunity to sample 4 different types of whisky while learning about how to taste whisky. Also got to check out Bar Six, which is a great spot for small gatherings/​company outings.
There was time to mingle and chat with other Unilocalers, which is always fun and enjoyable. Chatting, drinking, learning — definitely a productive event.
