It’s not fancy nor comfortable. Yes, you will most likely hear more mainland tourists speaking than actual cantonese. Granted I didn’t run into any lines here, but damn was the scrambled eggs with truffle tasty for $ 35HKD. Fluffy yellow scrambled eggs on top of thick buttered toast with truffle shavings on top. I mean, talk about champange and beer prices, people. I mean, I wasn’t expecting much, but I have to give it to Capital– it was tasty. Wash it all down with their iced milk tea and you have a cheap and cheerful snack.

I just don’t understand. There was a super long line for just some simple, mediocre food. Maybe it’s HK comfort food? It’s all too bland and simple. I mean honestly, macaroni soup with spam and toast with scrambled eggs. I could cook this stuff at home but I prefer my macaroni shells with flavor. The toast was thick, which was good and the lemon tea was delicious! Oh yeah, what I don’t understand is how some people get to cut in line while we had to wait patiently in line. The host would pull people from the line and let them in before us. It was just me and my girlfriend, 2 people so I figured it was about seats. Maybe they had 3 seats open and wanted to fill them? Nope, he let 3 couples go ahead. Hmmm I just don’t get it.

If the classic Hong Kong approach to breakfast food appeals to you, this is the place to go. What is otherwise nontraditional about this restaurant(which serves great scrambles eggs and expertly brewed coffee and milk tea) is the polite and courteous staff. Here at Capital, customers actually feel like customers who get treated with courtesy, a welcomed experience in a city of local eateries that treat their patrons like annoying mosquitoes invading their space. I’ll be back.

I frankly don’t get the craze about this place even I have visited it a couple of time; yet the length of the line outside of the shop constantly amazes me. To justify the long queue, I have decided to give it another try. The options in the café is quite limited, so without giving much thoughts, I go with the classics, «all day breakfast, HK style»(常餐), which consists of scrambled eggs, a type of preserved meat(ham, spam or sausage), a thick slice of toast served with a bowl of barbecued pork spaghetti in soup; pretty strange a combination for foreigners I know, but this is a good illustration on how HK as a colony takes on the western influences and put a local twist to it. Whereas for the food — the scrambled eggs is a signature item here and is well deserved; cooked to golden perfection with the interior still wobbly. The spaghetti in soup, well… at least i drank all the soup~(not a huge fan of spaghetti cooked this way, sorry); the barbecued pork was rather bland and more like braised than flame roasted, not a dish that I particularly enjoy. However, I have to give credits to the beverages they prepare! No matter coffee or tea, it was masterfully brewed. Intense in taste, silky smooth in texture, basically everything you would hope for, and more. After this experience, the puzzle why the line is long is still unsolved; yet the experience definitely was not a bad one, despite the often less than friendly and polite staff. After all, you can say service with good attitude is not a tradition among HK waiters especially in cha chaan teng~
