Hong Kong review #10 I planned to be in Hong Kong for 4 days and of course needed a room. Unfortunately Hong Kong is far from the inexpensive bargain the Philippines are, so I had a little«sticker shock» while I searched for a room. During the time of my stay(last week) $ 80(US) a night was either a hostel, or a hotel where the room is barely larger than the bed. After looking through numerous options, I booked this Best Western Plus location for HK$ 760($ 98US)++ per night($ 108 night/total). LOCATION: In the Sai Ying Pun area, just west of Sheung Wan and Central. Lots & lots of local restaurants and shops within walking distance(a few minutes or less)! The HKU Metro station is a 5 minute walk away, which allows you to get almost anywhere in Hong Kong very easily. TRAVELTIP: Aside from the nearby HKU metro station, there are also electric trollies which run up and down Dex Voeux Road right in front of the hotel. The best part is the cost, just HK$ 2.30(roughly 30 cents US) per person. It’s very easy to get to the ferry terminal, Central and beyond. SERVICE: Friendly, polite and helpful front desk staff, plus a very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly concierge, who had no problem telling about the small restaurants the locals go to. He also shared a number of money saving tips(like the trolley), which I really appreciated! Customer service here was far better than other Best Western locations I’ve stayed in the US. The outside of the hotel: The lobby: The front desk: I booked a «superior room» and upon check-in was surprised to learn it was actually a 1 bedroom suite! When we got to the room, I was quite impressed as it was very nice! The very nice marble bathroom! FREEWI-FI: Yes it’s free, but be warned, it works well in the morning and during the day, but it’s completely useless in the evening, not just slow, it’s «don’t waist your time trying» non-existent! You’re much better off buying a local SIM card for your mobile phone(from any 7 – 11) and setting up a local Wi-Fi hot spot thru your phone! Internet via mobile is ULTRAFAST in Hong Kong! They offer a breakfast buffet, which in my case, was not included with the room. The front desk offered me breakfast coupons at 50% off — HK$ 54($ 7US) and after an exhausting first day, I bought 2 for the next morning. The restaurant is located on the 3rd floor, which is interesting because the elevators stop at the 5th floor. You must walk 2 flights of stairs to get there. They have the usual variety of Asian and(mostly) Western breakfast items to choose from, hot and cold cereal, eggs, ham, English sausage, baked beans, grilled tomatoes, fruit, salad, bread and pastries. Everything that I tried was fine, but didn’t «wow» me enough to buy any more coupons for breakfast. Once was enough. OVERALL: Great customer service and concierge, awesome room, just O-K breakfast buffet and completely useless wi-fi in the evening. Overall experience was still very positive and worth a rock solid 4 stars!
