The food here is solid: I went with a friend who is timid about food, and I went because I thought this would be more like Chinese food in America than other local choices, and I was right — not in a bad way. Her Chicken Fried Rice was delicious; my sea cucumber with crispy rice was good, although definitely could have used some more sea cucumber. It was all familiar enough that she was happy(and I was, too). I’m giving 3 stars because, that said, it’s less interesting and«real» feeling than many other HK dining experiences I’ve had, but the staff are still very rude — actually much ruder than I’ve experienced at other places that are less used to serving tourists. So if you’re not constrained by the limitations I was – if you can really just go for the real deal, without being worried about people’s comfort zones – I might not recommend this place. If you need a «safe» choice it’s a good one, and the waiter’s rudeness can be accepted as part of the scene.

Food: Great! I’ve home here a food times and always enjoyed the variety of food and the Peking Duck. Service: Service is fine. Not bad. Environment: Gets packed so it’s best to make a reservation.

Don’t be fooled by the name the American Restaurant is not serving american cuisine. Our group of friends came here for our first night in Hong Kong. It was recommended by a passerby in Tokyo who gave it rave reviews. We came here specifically to try the Peking duck and were not disappointed. The duck is carved in the room and served with these warm floury tortillas(which at first didn’t make sense to me) and a killer sauce. Along with lettuce wraps and mixture of sides. Everything had great flavor and unique taste that I had never experienced before. We ordered a bit too much but, tried to finish as much as we could. You have the option of ordering different sizes of each dish — I recommend getting the smaller sizes so that you can get a few things and not have too much of one dish. The atmosphere here is perfect for a group and the round tables make you feel like you’re eating a large family dinner, which I love. And they make it perfect for conversation. I would recommend this to anyone coming to HK even if you will just be in the area for a layover. It is a must for your food bucket list.

New York style Chinese food. If you know what that means you know what I’m talking about. American sized(large) portions. What you would find in a typical New York Chinese Resturant so it you’re coming from the states, it will be familiar. If you’re local & want to know what you’ll find when you travel to the U.S., try this place… also they specialize in Roast Duck(or when not in beijing) Peaking Duck. I would rate their duck 3.5 out of 5. Good but can be over cooked/roasted.

If I made a list of all my favorite food, Peking duck would be somewhere between number one and number five. I’ve always adored Peking duck — even just the act of picking the meat and assembling it with the pancake is fun! My parents, especially my father, are fans of Peking duck too, and our favorite place to eat it is at American Peking Restaurant along Lockhart Road. There is nothing American about this restaurant — the interior of it is very traditional, with round tables with white table cloths laid over them and wooden chairs. The restaurant is always really busy and does get pretty loud. We’ve ordered other dishes here before, like the freshwater shrimp and sweet and sour pork, but it’s(obviously) the Peking duck that steals the spotlight. It’s quite a show to watch the waiter wheel out the duck on a table and slice it up right in front of you! The duck here is roasted to perfection and the skin is really nice and crispy. The pancakes that you wrap them in aren’t too thin that the sauce will just soak right through it, and not too thick that it takes effort to bite through. I love the sweet bean sauce — it just goes so well with the duck! The duck meat is really tender too. I can usually eat five or six pancakes before I feel like I can’t eat anymore! One thing though, is that the quality here is not always consistent. Some people like their Peking duck to have quite a bit of fat in it, but my family doesn’t. Sometimes, the duck will be beautifully lean and have hardly any fat at all — but sometimes there will be quite a lot stuck to the skin. I try to take it out if I can, but it just takes too much effort. Overall, you can’t go wrong with coming here for Peking duck. I’ve been here so many times and have never been disappointed. Be warned though, that booking beforehand is absolutely imperative — chances of being able to get a table if you don’t are slim!
