The Auld Rogue

My daughter and I tried this place on a whim around 1900 on a Friday– I would suggest if you have kids to go earlier and maybe not at the start of the weekend. As we were finishing it got a bit rowdy but that could be expected given its a pub/​bar! I didn’t have an issue. We just finished up and left. My daughter said the chicken coujons were the best she has ever had! And I really enjoyed my pulled pork sandwhich. Service was great. This place is cash only. I didn’t know that going into it. But the owner and server were very kind and patient with me when it came time to pay with all that I could find at the bottom of my purse. The beer is good, food is tasty and it’s a funny little place with good atmosphere. I will go back again for sure.

Great atmosphere and exactly what you’d expect of an Irish pub. Pub fair is quite good but if you ask, they will try to meet some unique party needs. Attended a Burns Supper here and the chef went over the top with his rendition of haggis. Best haggis I’ve ever had and NOT on the regular menu. These guys really care about you having an excellent experience when you’re here. Don’t miss one of their whiskey tastings!

Tried a few of the mixed drinks and beer they have available. The hefeweizen is on par with all others. The places seems to be the best around to watch college and American football if that’s your interest. The homemade Kartoffelecken, or potato fries if you will, are pretty amazing. They are open late almost every night of the week and have a good website that offers more information. Will certainly try to stop by for another beer before leaving town.

Hearty portions and they speak English! Pretty happy! Also it’s cash only, don’t expect to use your credit card here! The guys are super nice here and they make an effort to get to know you!

Looking for a place where the default language is English (with an accent)? Do you like air conditioning, great drinks and tasty food? Auld Rogue is a place that doesn’t disappoint. My husband and I have eaten here many times, never an issue. We typically get the burgers, I get a Radler or cider and my husband gets beer. I’ve come with a large group (11 people) and everyone was happy with their food — fish and chips, club sandwich, burgers — all great. It’s a child friendly place with fast and friendly service. Not a ton of street parking, but that’s pretty much all of Vaihingen anyway. It’s a nice walk from Patch and there are garages nearby. It’s also a good walk from the Vaihingen S/​U Bahn station.

I’ve been in the Stuttgart area for 10 days now. The meal I had at this pub was the worst food I’ve had since I’ve been here. The cheeseburger was completely overdone. The bun plain and dry so I just ate the meat and cheese. The pattie was so overdone that I could barely get my fork through it. It didn’t taste like 100% beef either. I’ve had soy burgers before … I know what I’m tasting. The French fries tasted a little off too — like the oil they were fried in was funky. I didn’t feel like a beer, so I ordered a coke. I asked straight away if they charged for a second. They didn’t answer my question and filled up the glass. In fact they did — 2 cokes = 7 €!?! That’s more than beer! The only passable item on my plate was the salad. 23.50 € for a crappy burger, fries, small salad and 2 cokes… one of which I would not have ordered had they answered my question. Maybe this place would be passable to have a beer and play trivia JUST DONT EAT DINNER THERE. Never again!!!

Ich hab mich nicht vom Äußeren abschrecken lassen und wurde mit einer coolen Irischen Kneipe im Innneren belohnt. Neben den üblichen Bieren gibt es auch Spezialangebote, die geschmacklich mehr als den Standard bieten, das lohnt sich.
Die Räumlichkeiten sind heller als sonst in Pubs, das macht es angenehm (er). Bedienung ist freundlich und fix.
Als Burger wählte ich den Auld Rogue Special, spicy stand dran, richtig spicy war er, grenzwertig scharf, aber gut, nach der Arbeit mal den Kopf frei zubekommen. Die Pommes als ‘home made’ groß und cross, aber leider nach einiger Zeit etwas weich innen.
Musik, die nicht zum Video passt, oder umgekehrt, wirkt putzig, ist aber ein wenig zu laut.
Die Soßen auf dem Tisch sollten öfters auf Tauglichkeit inspiziert werden.
Aber trotz allem — sehr empfehlenswert.

Want a Irish beer on tap… place to come. Friendly atmosphere… Guinness is great, the food doesn’t leave much to be desired, then again I went for the beer. Have a life, drink a beer. Check these lads out. They will even write sorry in your beer if it comes late. Cheers.

Always a good time. The manager truly has the gift of gab. He’s always telling one story or another.

For the food alone, I’d probably give this place 1.5 to 2 stars, but the atmosphere and friendly servers bump it up to 3.
It’s a small, cozy bar and English is the language spoken by default – which means a lot of Americans come here. They do play NFL on Sundays which is nice, but they blast the broadcast (which is in German) at an unnecessary level and only play one game (there are 2 TVs).
There servers are all very friendly and fun to talk to but the service is extremely slow – even by German standards.
But on to the food: multiple people told me to come here for the burgers and that they were the best. I honestly don’t know what they were talking about. The patties are of the pre-​formed, frozen variety and have the taste and texture of a school cafeteria. I guess there’s some nostalgia there, just not the kind I’m looking for.
The fries (chips) are equally bad, if not worse. They have the oddest sweet taste to them, almost like sweet potato fries or old oil that is also used for donuts… I really can’t figure them out. I just avoid them.
The steak sandwich comes out as an awkward slab of grey meat that is also flavorless with some caramelized onions. No lettuce, tomato or sauce. It is very hard to eat as a sandwich as the meat is a big, tough slab.
The fish and chips dish is surprisingly small (most of the portions here are huge!) with only one skinny piece of fish that tasted OK if not the freshest.
In short, go here for the atmosphere, beer and maybe NFL, but eat somewhere else first.

Really I need to leave two reviews. As a bar, 5 stars. Go for beer and the big TV sets and trivia. The servers all speak English and the menu is in English so Americans who are scared to venture out feel comfortable here.
As an eatery, meh. The service is so slow that the only way to have a satisfying experience would be to arrive while you ate still full from the lady thing you ate. Do not even think about bringing hungry children here. Only tears and tantrums lie down that road.
If you have any dietary restrictions, be explicit when ordering and don’t rely on the menu for accuracy. I ordered something that did not list cheese as an ingredient and yet it arrived smothered in cheese. Whoops. I should have asked.
Our second visit was disastrous and our kids got the wrong food twice and our appetizer was also wrong.
So as an eatery I’d give it 2 stars.
I’d go back, but only for drinks and only with adults. No kids and no eating.

We had heard about this place a few times and finally went. I wish we had gone the first time! This place is amazing! I can’t believe I’m the first review!
Logistics…there is street parking, if you can find it. We parked at the Swabian. It was a couple blocks away.
Reservations…if it’s just a couple or double date you may be okay if you go early or don’t mind sitting at the bar. There is the main bar but then a few smaller 4 top bar like tables. The tables were mostly reserved. Saturday night at 8… Call for a table.
Service…everyone spoke English but in a swoony Irish accent. Sure, do call me lass and darling! On top of the drinks, food was hot when it hit the table, and quick with requests. They keep track of your order on your coaster so you can easily see how many you’ve had. You also don’t have to wait for them to bring the check. When you’re done just head up to the bar to pay and be on your way!

The food… oh…my…goodness.
It was amazing! We got an order of cheese nachos. No, seriously, cheese nachos at an Irish bar in Germany that I feel the need to gush about. How could cheese and chips be so amazing? I have no freaking idea but they were. The tortilla chips were homemade, possibly baked because there were no traces of oil. They were seasoned kinda like Doritos but more like Doritos made by angels. They were topped with Irish Cheddar. That was it. Salsa was served on the side but why? Anything would have ruined this amazingness. There were four adults and it was plenty big for us.
Celtic burger… seasoned beef patty, Irish cheddar, and sautéed onions. One of the best burgers I’ve ever had! Perfectly grilled, bursting with flavor, sweet but not obnoxious onion taste. The portion was large and even though I was full about halfway I championed on. I added bacon… because I’m stupid. It didn’t need bacon. I am a bacon rights activist and believe bacon belongs on every plate but in this case, bacon could have taken the night off. After one bite, I took the bacon off and saved it for later. I don’t care how full you are… leave no bacon behind.
It was served with fresh cut fries. Not soggy but not crispy. The taste was fresh not bagged. Some kids at the next table had massive waffle fries. I will be getting those next time.
The main attraction is burgers. They have salads, wraps, breakfast platters on the weekends, shepherds pie, and Irish stew. Do yourself a favor and get a mind blowing burger.

Kinowerbung bringt manchmal tatsächlich was die Werbung im Corso hat uns auf die Idee gebracht nach dem Film hier vorbeizuschauen und wir haben es nicht bereut.
Ein echt gemütliches Pub in dem wir in entspannter Atmosphäre unser Guinness bzw. Cider genießen konnten. Wir wurden herzlich vom Chef empfangen und haben mehr oder weniger gesundes Pub-​Food in uns reingestopft. Das Essen war OK, allerdings schmeckt mir persönlich das Essen im O’Reillys noch besser.
Zufällig war auch noch Quiznight, sodass es zwar ziemlich voll war, aber richtig gute Stimmung.
Eine Empfehlung für alle die die Atmosphäre eines typisch irischen Pubs mögen

Allgemein
Wir haben gegessen und getrunken und es war super angenehm. Das irische Frühstück (full irish) ist wirklich empfehlenswert. Da wir mit einer grösseren Gruppe da waren lohnte es sich vorher kurz anzurufen (insbesondere wenn Fussball gezeigt wird, sollte man reservieren)… Uns ja wir waren schon öfter da und kommen auch wieder… (wir blieben wirklich lang…)
Bedienung
Die Bedienung war schnell und freundlich, sprach auch ein wenig Deutsch, was bei der Ältesten und der Jüngsten gut ankam, wir anderen sprechen alle englisch und das war für uns also sehr angenehm.
Das Essen
Wir lieben irish breakfast und auch andere irische Spezialitäten, das hatte in Stuttgart eine ganze Weile wirklich gefehlt. Es wurde Zeit wieder Mal für einen richtigen Pub, der auch Essen serviert. Wir sind Fans und kommen auch immer wieder wenn wir Zeit haben. Leider kann man nicht soviel Essen wie man gerne würde (Man muss das wirklich nicht hungrig gehen, eher bleibt was übrig…)
Das Ambiente
Das Ambiente ist sehr gut, wobei das Gefühl zwischen Wohnzimmer und Familien Pub und Kantine (Drei offene Räume sind unterscheidlich aufgebaut) immer wieder schwenkt. Das Staff ist sehr freundlich und geht auch auf Spezialwünsche ein. Man wird begrüsst als wäre man ein lang nicht gesehener Freund, was das Ambiente sehr angenehm macht.
Sauberkeit
Ich bin pingelig, habe aber nichts zu bemängeln gehabt die Male die ich dort war. Die Gläser haben nicht gerochen (wie in vielen Bars und Restaurants) und das Besteck und restliche Geschirr war sauber. Auch die Bedienungen waren sauber, was will man mehr.

sehr nette Kneipe um mit Freunden einen schönen Abend zu verbringen, einfach mal was anderes von daher sehr gut weiter zu empfehlen. Bier erstklassig!

Wir waren nach einem Kinoabend im «Corso Cinema International» (aktuelle Filme im Original) im «The Auld Rogue». Eine prima Kombination der beiden Institutionen in Vaihingen — man kommt sich vor wie in England.
Das Auld Rogue war proppenvoll mit sehr gemischtem Publikum — Sport-​Fans, die Rugby guckten, eine Famile, die Geburtstag feierte, Stammgäste, Kneipengänger. Entsprechend ist es natürlich etwas laut und eng, aber atmosphärisch stimmt es.
Fish & Chips und Cheeseburger waren in guter Pub-​Qualität, der Service freundlich und in Deutsch wie Englisch kompetent, die Preise völlig okay — vor allem im Vergleich mit denen auf einer der Inseln.
Insgesamt eine Empfehlung für alle, die ein bisschen Heimweh oder Fernweh nach echten Pubs haben. Wir gehen auf jeden Fall wieder hin.

So wie man sich typisch irisch vorstellt: gemütlich und familienfreundlich, lecker und entspannt, alles sehr sehr authentisch also Sonntags unbedingt frischgemachte Scones probieren!

Netter Irish Pub, gemütlich mit verschiedenen Sitzgelegenheiten: Vom Clubraum mit Ledersesseln über mit rotem Samt bezogenen Eckbänken und altmodischen Sesseln bis zu den (zugegebenermaßen amerikanischen) Whiskey-​Fässern als Stehtisch. Eine Halloween-​Figur hängt ebenso von der Decke wie die unvermeidliche irische Fahne, aus dem Lautsprecher hört man irische Musik. Als jedoch zum dritten Mal in einer halben Stunde Whiskey in the Jar lief, musste ich doch eine leichte Ermahnung aussprechen und ein viertes Mal war es nicht mehr gehört. Die Bedienung war auf eine besonders irisch-​britische Art freundlich. Wir waren zum Frühstück hier, ich wählte die vegetarische Variante (7,20) mit Bohnen, Pilzen, Tomate, Kartoffelecke, Spiegelei, Tee /​Kaffee und Orangensaft: ein ordentliches Inselfrühstück. Der Scone (2,50) mit Butter und Marmelade war leider nicht frisch, sonst würde ich noch wesentlich öfter hierher kommen.

Klasse Bedienung, gutes Essen und Sportfernsehen. Gemütliches Ambiente

Das Pub wird sich vermutlich schnell zum Geheimtipp entwickeln. Auf eine Bar dieser Art in Vaihingen hat man eigentlich immer gewartet. Es hat eine stimmige Atmosphäre, nur zum empfehlen, und ist wirklich nett eingerichtet. Am Wochenende finden immer wieder Live-​Musik oder special Events wie Whiskey Proben statt. Ein internationales Publikum, sehr freundliches Personal und eine gute Auswahl an Getränken. Zum essen gibt es unter anderem Sandwiches und Burger. Die Portionen sind für den Preis auch entsprechend groß und schmecken 10x besser als Mac&Co. Das Lokal ist übrigens Rauchfrei.

Na ja, als ich das erste Mal das Auld Rogue betrat, kam mir der Begriff Bahnhofswartehalle in den Kopf.
Für meine Begriffe eine angelsächsische Abendkneipe; das Bier teuer, das Essen, soweit man diesen Begriff hier verwenden will, eher für den einfachen Gaumen.
So sind hier auch eine Menge amerikanischer Freunde zu Gast. Die freuen sich natürlich über jede kulinarische Abwechslung, auch wenn diese nicht mehr ganz warm daher kommt.
Für einen Burger und ein paar Pommes sind dann über EUR 8, aber doch ein bisschen viel!
Wer aber Rugby, Am. Football oder europäischen Fußball (weniger der deutsche Fußball) sehen mag, kommt gerne hier her.

Die Einrichtung ist wirklich gemütlich und einfallsreich. Die Bedienung ist sehr bemüht. Zum ‘familiären’ wohlfühlen. Speisekarte ist nicht ganz einfallsreich aber wirkt authentisch. Wer Burger mag, sollte auf jeden Fall vorbei kommen, Die sind super. Ein Besuch lohnt sich in jedem Fall. Wer sein Englisch auffrischen will ist hier auch gut aufgehoben.
