Le Panthéon

Le Panthéon c’est magnifique vu de l’extérieur avec son architecture néo classique. A l’intérieur c’est pas mal non plus. Malheureusement la collection de tombeaux né suffit pas à le rendre intéressant. Les caveaux sont très classiques voire tristounets. Il n’y a pas de mise en scèné (tout juste un panneau explicatif sur qui était la personne). Franchement pour voir des sépultures qui en jettent mieux vaut aller au Père Lachaise qui en plus est gratuit.
A noter que les travaux né sont pas encore terminés, les toilettes sont à l’extérieur dans un bâtiment en préfabriqué des plus charmant :)
L’entrée est à 8,50 euros il me semble. Ce n’est pas excessif mais encore une fois pour voir le pendule de Foucault et des sépultures en pierre qui se ressemblent toutes c’est pas si donné que ça.

Like a lot of stuff in Paris a must see big part of history. Hard to believe so much survive the wars.

One of the highlights of the trip!!!
We arrived just seconds before they were not allowing any more entry, the security guard must have thought we had tickets because he just waved us through and we got in without paying anything (bonus). we spend the next hour walk the Pantheon and admiring the history and beautiful works of art… The place was incredibly breathtaking and really left an impression on me. We didn’t have time to get to the crypt’s, but we did enjoy the free hour we had…
Highly recommended.

Au fronton du mausolée de la nation sont écrits ces quelques mots: «Aux grands hommes la Patrie reconnaissante». En traversant la nef, on voit immédiatement le pendule de foucault (nouvellement réinstallé). Dans la crypte, deux grands penseurs se font face. Jean Jacques Rousseau à droite, Voltaire à gauche.
L’un des plus beaux monuments de la République.

This is definitely a very neat place. Easy access, and you can tour at your own pace. The crypts are downstairs and you may come across some familiar names such as Voltaire, Victor Hugo and others.
We came later in the day, and I don’t think that there is any specific day that better to visit.

Le Pantheon, like many historic buildings in Paris, has had multiple uses over the years — from consecrated church, to goverment building, to its current use as a mausoleum for France’s greats.
The gound floor has some pretty awesome paintings and sculptures, dedicated to the revolution. The basilica is actually 3 basilicas, encased within each other like Russion dolls — designed like this to minimise structural strains. Le Pantheon is also home to the Foucault Pendulum — this is the experiment that proved the world itself rotates. Unfortunately the pendulum itself is currently away for restoration.
The basement crypt is the mausoleum. And is quite impressive — the arches have rooms running off which have the dead folks stacked in giant stone tombs. You’ll find people like Voltaire and Marie Curie (the only woman so far).
Well worth a visit — and the gift shop (although tiny), has quite a good selection (prices from cheap through to über expensive).

Le lieu est magnifique, il n’y a pas à dire. Que ce soit à l’intérieur ou à l’extérieur. On est impressionné par l’architecture et l’immensité du lieu.
Outré le caveau qui peut être visité, n’hésitez pas à profiter des visites guidées qui vous en apprendront plus sur le monument en lui-​même.
Certes, au départ le tarif de 7,50 € peut sembler un peu élever, mais pour les passionnés d’histoire, cela peut être une belle surprise.
Lors des journées pluvieuses ou alors des chaleurs caniculaires, le Panthéon ressemble à un havre de paix, un retour au coeur de l’Histoire.

Le Pantheon boats some great views both from the inside and the outside. This place has a ton of history associated with it and is the burial grounds for many famous Parisians. Overall, this place is worth a visit as it is located near the French capital, Luxembourg and musé Rodin.

Another one if the famous landmarks in Paris where you can visit crypts to see where many famous people are laid to rest. You’ll find the crypts of Rousseau, Voltaire, Braille, Descartes, among others. Even Marie Curie, the only female crypt. It’s an interesting site to see. Admission is € 7 but if you have the Paris Museum Pass, it’s included so be sure to buy one to save money.

Are we in Rome?! Property is actually located in the Latin Quarter of Paris. Mainly a mausoleum housing many notable French contributors half of which I were unfamiliar with. Among those buried here are Alexander Dumas (the author of The Three Musketeers and other famous novels), Voltaire, Rousseau, Victor Hugo, Émile Zola, Jean Moulin, Louis Braille, Jean Jaurès, Soufflot, its architect and Marie Curie being the only female.

The upstairs Interior Dome of the Panthéon is beautiful, downstairs crypt on the other hand has a whole lot of nothing going on. Honestly, would rather stroll through cooler cemeteries than attempting to recognize names on walls. In other words, there are more interesting sights to be seen in Paris.

Paris is a rip-​off, granted. But the Panthéon is one of its premium attractions and certainly worth the price of admission. It doesn’t look like much from outside, but the halls, sculptures, wall paintings and of course the crypta with its graves of Rousseau, Voltaire, Dumas etc. are awe-​inspiring. See my photos. There isn’t anything in the world quite like this place (it was originally designed to be a cathedral, but then they made it a mausoleum and had to brick the windows — ahhh, those wacky Frenchmen).
Unmissable on a visit to the French capital. Can be easily visited in tandem with the grave of Napoléon/​Dome des Invalides and the Rodin Museum.

While staying in the tangled alleys of the fifth we knew we wanted to pop into Le Panthéon. In terms of Parisian landmarks, it isn’t in the top five and is very large, so we were confident it wouldn’t be a claustrophobic tourist orgy. We were correct.
It costs 7euros to enter, but given the upkeep necessary for this place, we were happy to pay… especially since there was no line. I repeat, on a weekend afternoon there was No. Line.
The incredible architecture and attention to detail at every turn is a reminder on how once upon a time we treated our dead. An overwhelming amount of glory and dignity. Above it being a breathtaking structure, it also houses some ghosts worth paying your respects to: Voltaire, Zola, Hugo, Braille and Curie to name a few that made me feel feelings.
Yep. This lefthanded, redheaded female popped into a church and crypt and it didn’t spontaneously combust. I wish I could time machine back to the Salem witch trials and be all «Seeeeee!?» I guess if I did that then they’d definitely think I was a witch? Let’s be real, if I had a time machine I would basically be magic…

The crypt downstairs is actually way cooler than the main exhibits. Lots of famous Parisians buried there like Victor Hugo and Jean-​Jacques Rosseau.
I would only check it out if It was free (which it was for us, thanks Paris Pass). There was no line at all.

Crypt. Odd place to visit but we did. I guess the only thing I truly liked was the French saying «Live Free or Die» on the monument inside. Not bad for a stop during a walking tour.

A gorgeous building with many notable people entombed here. Foucault’s pendulum was not on display while I visited as it is being repaired and will be missing for 3 years. Still lots to see and appreciate.

Beautiful paintings. Burial grounds for some famous parisans. Cool escape if the heat or rain is bothering you. Took about an hour to see everything.
Although signage is mostly in french. So was not as informative as I thought it would be. Has a nice section on how the pantheon is being preserved from years of weather and water damage.
Pretty Cool to see local artists doing their thing. Sketching and drawing. Lots of school fieldtrips for local parisans. I would stop by after seeing the musee de cluny. Its huge and spacious. And really close!

A nice relaxing spot when compared to the mob scenes at other sites in the city. The only downside was that the dome was under construction when we visited (and will be until 2015)… otherwise an interesting, easy place to pop in.

A breathtaking mausoleum where some really amazing people, including Victor Hugo, Rousseau, Marie Curie, Voltaire, and many more, are buried. The inside is immaculate. Large, impressive marble sculptures capture the lives of some of its residents and even historical events that occurred at the Pantheon. This building has a lot of history, and there’s a lot of explore. It is very quiet, as it should be for respect, and contains a lot of information on each of its residents. I believe there are audio tours or some sort of translation service for those who cannot read French, but want to learn about the lives of the famous politicians, authors, scientists and revolutionaries housed here. One of my favorite places that I visited in Paris.

This is truly an interesting building. The Pantheon was initially used as a church, but was coverted to a secular museum and mauseleum in 1885 when Victor Hugo’s body was interred within. Since then, it’s been used as a mauseleum for distinguished French citizens. While the inside of the building is rather nice and the paintings and sculptures are quite good, the best thing about the Pantheon is definitely the mauseleum. It’s incredibly humbling and surreal to be able to walk down crypt and walk past the remains of Voltaire, Rousseu, Dumas, Hugo, Curie, Braille, etc…
It’s currently having reconstructive work done on it due to parts of the building breaking off. You can still tour the building, but there is large pieces of scaffolding outside and inside the building, which does take away from its appearance.

Ce n’est pas mon monument préféré mais il possède quand même quelques charmes (malgré les travaux de restauration). On peut visiter le caveau où il y a tous les grands auteurs et les grands hommes francais (beaucoup sont tout de même inconnu), une horloge ingénieuse et de grandes maquettes.
C’est un endroit incontournable dans un paris d’autant plus qu’en sortant on a une super vue sur le jardin du luxembourg et la tour eiffel. Petit fun fact: il n’y a seulement que deux femmes au panthéon Marie curie entre autre, je lance un appel à toutes les filles: foncez pour être panthéonisées !

Ein wenig ein morbider Charakter muss ich ja sein, da ich es mag, auf Reisen die letzten Ruhestätten Berühmter zu sehen. Im Pantheon, der ursprünglichen Kirche nach antikem Vorbild, dort, wo Foucault seine berühmten Pendel-​Versuche machte, wird man durchaus fündig. Leider waren mir als Deutschem bei weitem nicht alle der in der Krypta Beigesetzten bekannt. Doch die, die mir ein Begriff waren, waren schon genug. Wir hatten Glück– als wir da waren, war kein Eintritt fällig. Aber für diesen Ort hätte ich ohne weiteres einen Eintrittspreis in der für Paris üblichen Preisklasse gezahlt und dies nicht bereut.

Apabullante por fuera y con una primera planta maravillosa (una iglesia desacralizada y dedicada al Pueblo) llena de frescos de Juana de Arco y Santa Genoveva, he de decir que su cripta me dejó ligeramente frío porque hay tumbas demasiado simples para los grandes hombres que albergan en su interior: si exceptúas a Voltaire y Rousseau, el resto están enterrados como nos enterrarán a vosotros y a mí. Bueno, vale, un poco mejor, pero sin grandes cosas y con solo el nombre en la puerta. ¡Pensé que sería algo más grandioso!
En realidad creo que lo más grandioso de todo, lo que realmente me hubiera encantado de este sitio, es el Péndulo de Foucault que cuelga habitualmente de su cúpula; por desgracia, ha sido retirado durante un tiempo a causa de las obras de rehabilitación del edificio pero, a grandes males, grandes remedios: lo tomaré como una razón de peso para volver a París.

The tour to go up to the top is well worth it. Especially if it’s a nice day.
Not everyone likes museums, but this isn’t your usual cramped stuffy museum.
I got the museum pass with my friends and it was worth it because you could always leave and come back another time if you don’t feel like staying.

Un superbe monument, que je viens seulement d’aller voir, je né sais pas pourquoi j’ai autant tardé car cela vaut vraiment le coup.
Outré la visite inévitable de la crypte, je vous conseille de vous renseigner pour arriver à l’heure d’une visite guidée (elles sont gratuites et durent 45min). Vous en apprendrez plus sur l’histoire du monument en lui-​même qui est originale et très intéressante, en lien notamment avec la période trouble de la Révolution. Le guide-​conférencier qui faisait cette visite était absolument passionné par son sujet et donc passionnant, si bien que je l’ai même suivi à la trace après dans le Panthéon pour lui demander des renseignements complémentaires !!
Le Panthéon abrite également des expositions temporaires, accessibles sans supplément, actuellement c’est une expo sur Jean-​Jacques Rousseau et les Arts, que j’ai trouvée très fournie et bien organisée.
Bref un incontournable de Paris, né tardez pas comme moi à le visiter ! Et pour mieux profiter de la grande salle, allez-​y un jour bien lumineux car il y a assez peu d’ouvertures.

Au centre du quartier latin, près du jardin du Luxembourg se dresse ce magnifique temple, anciennement église, qui a pour but d’honorer la mémoiré des hommes tels que Rousseau, Zola, Voltaire, etc.

Última morada de muchos grandes franceses, el Panteón es un monumento parisino de los que todo turista debería visitar. Puedes entrar aquí utilizando la París Musseum Pass.
En la cripta hay más de 70 tumbas de importantes franceses entre los que se encuentran Alejandro Dumas, Emile Zola, Marie Cuire, Monet, Víctor Hugo, Voltaire o Reusseau.
Aquí está el famoso péndulo de Foucault, el original. Interesante observarlo detenidamente.

Le Panthéon est un monument à haute valeur historique quand on a visité la crypte au sous-​sol et qu’on mesure l’influence des grands Hommes qu’il renferme. Ce fût le premier monument que j’ai visité gratuitement au titre de mes 18 ans mais aussi, et par un pur hasard, le dernier, à 2 jours de mon 26ème printemps qui met un terme à la gratuité dans les musées pour moi…
En dehors de la fraîcheur ô combien agréable en plein été, nous sommes surpris de voir à quel point sont nombreux à reposer ici tant de philosophes, écrivains, scientifiques et hommes politiques. Jaurès, Curie, Zola, Hugo, Rousseau,…et j’en passé.
Dans cette grande bâtisse qui avait autrefois un tout autre rôle, on se sent bien petit face à son histoire et pour les plus scientifiques d’entre nous, vous apprécierez le pendule de Foucault qui se situe en plein milieu du Panthéon.

Moi j’ai adoré la pendule de Foucault, on peut rester des heures à le regarder ! Ensuite pour ce qui est des statues et des peintures certaines sont pour moi des chefs-d’oeuvre ! Et j’adore les maquette donc là aussi je suis servie avec la représentation en coupe du Panthéon. Puis en bas vous avez les tombeaux, il y fait très très frais ! Je n’aime pas particulièrement voir des tombes cependant je dois avouer que voir tous ces grands noms de notre histoire est à la fois impressionnant et émouvant je trouve. Et comme dis précédemment c’est gratuit pour les –25 ans européens ! Donc profitez en !

Absolut beeindruckend. Man spürt das der Bau eigentlich eine Kirche war und nach der französischen Revolution in eine Begräbnisstätte für berühmte und verdiente französische Bürger umfunktioniert wurde.
Auch das Foucaultsche Pendel zur Messung der Erdrotation ist sehenswert.

I’ve been here several times located in the Latin quarters in Paris. It used to be a church, but it is now a mausoleum containing the remains of well-​known French citizens like Voltaire and Marie Curie. It’s like a funeral hall of fame which is also a museum.
It’s also the location of Foucault’s pendulum experiment. It’s where French physicist Léon Foucault sensationally demonstrated the rotation of the earth in 1851. Currently, it cost 8.50 Euro to enter here, but if you have a museum pass you can skip the line, and enter for free. Very cool place and well worth the stop if you are in the area.

Et puis, on descend aux caveaux (attention prévoir une petite laine, il fait froid!) pour faire un petit coucou aux grands noms de la France.
Étudiants/​étudiantes, ou du moins les moins de 25 ans, vous n’avez pas d’excuse pour né pas y aller: c’est gratuit pour vous !

I loved the architecture here. From the moment you first step foot into this structure, your eyes will roam every way possible. Everything looks so elegant, beautiful, and grand. The interior dome is simply magnificent! The details, textures. WOW!
My original intention for visiting the Pantheon was because I wanted to see Foucault’s pendulum. After learning about it in class, I wanted to witness it with my own eyes. Definitely a nice treat :)
Many of the world’s most noted individuals are buried here as well — Voltaire, Marie Curie, Victor Hugo, Rousseau, and so many more.
I do recommend visiting, but I honestly wouldn’t stay too long here.

Als ich da war, war der Eintritt nicht umsonst. Aber umsonst ist in Paris wenig. Der Eintrittspreis von ca. 6 Euro hat sich allerdings sehr gelohnt. Alles dort war ein Highlight. Besonders die zeitversetzte Besteigung des Turmes in Kleingruppen war toll.

Das Pantheon, eine nach der Französischen Revolution zur nationalen Ruhmes– und Begräbnisstätte umgewandelte Kirche, ist sehr sehenswert. Die Ausmaße des Baus sind beeindruckend. Interessant sind auch die vielen Grabstätten berühmter Franzosen, etwa Voltaire, Rousseau, Marie Curie oder Diderot.
Beeindruckend fanden wir auch das Foucaultsche Pendel, das daran erinnert, dass hier der Versuch von Focault stattfand, mit dem er die Erdrotation nachwies.
Jeden Tag geöffnet, Eintritt frei.

Le Panthéon est un monument de style néo-​classique situé Place du Panthéon sur la montagne Sainte-​Geneviève, dans le 5e arrondissement de Paris, au cœur du quartier latin. Il est entouré notamment par la mairie du 5e arrondissement, le lycée Henri-​IV, l’église Saint-​Étienne-​du-​Mont, la bibliothèque Sainte-​Geneviève et la faculté de droit. La rue Soufflot lui dessine une perspective à partir du jardin du Luxembourg.
Construit à l’origine au XVIIIe siècle comme une église pour abriter la châsse de sainte Geneviève, ce monument a maintenant vocation à honorer des personnages et rappeler des événements ayant marqué l’Histoire de France.
Ses différentes destinations successives, sa décoration, les inscriptions et les symboles qui y figurent, permettent de parcourir la construction lente et contrastée de la nation française.

J’ai particulièrement apprécié cette visite. Un des Monuments incontournables de Paris. Beaucoup de choses a y apprendre.

J’ai beaucoup aimé les peintures murales.

Si vous passez par Paris, n’oubliez pas d’y faire un tour ;)

C’est Magnifique

Ok, so there are many churches, memorials, and religious places that I’ve visited since arriving in Paris. But I didn’t plan on writing reviews for all of them but this one is worth the visit and worth talking about.
It was once a church named after Saint Genevieve, but became a museum and place of burial of many of the popular French philosophers, writers, scientists, and the architects of the Pantheon itself.
Again, like the Notre-​Dame or the Socre-​Coeur of Montemarte, the architecture is amazing. It’s a place where artists can come in and draw all the cool stuff on the dome ceiling and the paintings on all the walls.
The highlight of Le Pantheon is the crypt itself. Below the monument is a tomb of many people including Victor Hugo, who wrote the Hunchback of Notre-​Dame; Voltair, a French philospher; Bougainville, a French Admiral and of course since I’m a nuke, I got to see the tomb of Marie Curie, a French physicist who defined radioactivity and helped discover radium. There are many many more buried down here.
The Pantheon is part of the national museums of Paris and one can enter if they purchased the museum pass ahead of time. Otherwise its € 7,50 per adult. If you’re under 18, it’s free to get in.

Il faut parfois savoir pousser la porte d’un tel édifice, si subjuguant de l’extérieur.
Une fois franchi le sas d’entrée, on découvre le pendule de Foucault ! Kesako? Oh rien… la preuve que la terre tourne, c’est tout… Super impressionnant !
Si vos prolongez la visite dans les sous-​sols, vous direz bonjour à Voltaire, aux couple Curie and bien d’autres encore…
Prêt pour un voyage dans le temps et l’histoire?!

Endroit qui me tient à coeur, j’y ai travaillé et j’y étais étudiant, le Panthéon est un bâtiment emblématique placé dans l’un des secteurs les plus agréables de Paris. Faisant face au Luxembourg, à l’Université Paris II/​Paris I et à la mairie du 5ème, le bâtiment est placé entre le boulevard St-​Michel et la rue Mouffetard. Il est donc difficile de le rater lorsqu’on visite Paris (avec sérieux du moins!).
Forteresse des «grands fronts» de la nation, il rend hommage et renferme des personnalités de grand renom.
Le bâtiment en lui même ressemble au Vatican et est caractéristique de l’architecture néo-​classique de l’époque.

Ça faisait longtemps que je voulais voir l’intérieur de cet édifice historique. Mon seul regret c’est de né pas y être allée plutôt. Ce lieu est très impressionnant. Nous y retrouvons des énormes tableaux dans un lieu à l’architecture extraordinaire. J’ai beaucoup aimé le pendule de Foucault. C’est fascinant de voir ce pendule suspendu au toit et de lire l’explication scientifique de son fonctionnement.
Il faut descendre pour visiter la crypte. Les noms des personnes ici sont un rappel à la richesse de l’histoire de la France et aux personnes qui ont fait des contributions inoubliables.

Le Panthéon est situé sur la montagne Sainte Geneviève. «Aux grands Hommes, la patrie reconnaissante» peut-​on lire sur le fronton principal. En effet, les grands hommes de notre Histoire, comme Mirabeau, Marat, Voltaire, Dumas, Monnet, Carnot ou Rousseau y sont inhumées.
On visite donc cet endroit comme une église, avec recueillement, bien que n’étant pas un édifice religieux.
Le pendule de Foucault y a également élu domicile, et met en évidence le principe de rotation de la terre.
Une belle visite à effectuer donc, et n’oubliez pas de monter tout en haut, après quelques marches, la vue sur Paris y est splendide…

Das Pantheon war ursprünglich eine Kirche, wurde aber später zur nationalen Ruhmeshalle erklärt. Es finden sich Wandgemälde über das Leben von Jeanne d’arc sowie Gräber berühmter Franzosen wie etwa Victor Hugo oder auch Alexandre Dumas.

Das Panthéon auf dem Hügel der Heiligen Genoveva in Paris (5. Arrdt.) ist die Grabstätte berühmter französischer Persönlichkeiten. Das Gebäude wurde, ursprünglich als Kirche der mächtigen Abtei Sainte-​Geneviève gedacht, im Auftrag von König Ludwig XV. in den Jahren 1764 bis 1790 von dem Architekten Jacques-​Germain Soufflot und seinen Schülern errichtet, nach der Vollendung aber von den Führern der Revolution zu einer nationalen Ruhmeshalle erklärt.
Nach mehreren weiteren Umwidmungen im 19. Jahrhundert ist das Panthéon seit 1885 erneut Ruhmeshalle Frankreichs. Entsprechend illuster ist die Liste der hier beigesetzten Personen: z.B. Louis Braille, Alexandre Dumas, Victor Hugo, André Malraux, Jean-​Jaques Rousseau, Voltaire, Émile Zola. Als bisher einzige Frau wurde Marie Curie im Panthéon beigesetzt.
1849 gelang dem Physiker Jean Bernard Léon Foucault mit dem nach ihm benannten Pendel im Panthéon der empirische Nachweis der Erdrotation. Das Pendel kann man auch heute noch bestaunen.
Zu bestimmten Zeiten (sie sind vor Ort angegeben) kann man die Kuppel besteigen, von der man einen wunderschönen Blick auf die Stadt hat.

Su edificación empezó porque el rey Louis XV hizo el voto de construir una iglesia si se recuperaba de una grave enfermedad. Pero nada más acabarlo, fue transformado por los revolucionarios en templo laico dedicado a los hombres ilustres.
