I like tasting menus since I love eating little bits of everything, like trying a bite of everything at a buffet. Dining at the Cinq was an experiment of decadence how even too much of a good thing can take away from the experience. From the amuse I knew that the food here would be great. That bite of mushroom water is still engraved into my memory. The richness of pure flavor is very hard to forget even if the ingredient is just your regular cooking mushroom. Of course all the courses that followed was great, seafood and meats alike. The only reason I decided to leave a 4 star review instead of 5 is simply due to my disagreement with menu choices. Within the tasting menu we were served both roasted foie gras and sweetbread. So two heavily fatty and organ-y flavor were only separated by a seafood dish in between. While both were individually delicious it was physically difficult to eat both dishes in a same course since both were simply too rich to be combined. Maybe it’s my fault for actually eating all the food that was given to me. Perhaps I should have just take a bite or two and return the rest of dishes throughout the entire course and maybe that’s how tasting menus of this caliber is to be enjoyed but I simply don’t feel comfortable wasting food. At the end of the day I thoroughly enjoyed my meal at the Cinq and would love to repeat it in the future. The food was to die for and the staff there were wonderful, especially the older gentleman who seemed to be the main server. Although it’s likely to be part of his repertoire his mannerism and humor were greatly appreciated. If you are not a heavy eater I would recommend just ordering a main or something separately and it would still be a good experience.

There are a few reasons this restaurant gets put in the«Top in the World» restaurants over and over again. When we went over Christmas, it not only lived up to expectations, but exceeded them! First off, if you’re against formal restaurants, you’re not going to like this place(it being in the Four Seasons hotel is also probably a tip off). Old school means jacket for the mister. However… they’re not snobs about it! My boyfriend and I spaced on the time of our reservations. After a day of shopping and general site seeing ending on the Champs-Élysées, we thought our reservation was earlier than it was(thanks a lot iPhone calendar, changing the time on me…). We arrived — he in jeans, a collared button-down shirt, and sneakers; me in Gap pants and a blouse. Not exactly in-line with the feel of the place. Not only could the accommodate us being early, they loaned him a jacket and never made us feel like we were underdressed, uncouth Americans. Though we were definitely in the former category. The service was probably the best I’ve had in the world. Ever. The food was unsurprisingly outstanding. If I were to have favorites, my boyfriend won the evening when he opted for the venison, but my fish was amazing too. Heavier proteins win here. The desserts were also amazing and like nothing I have ever had before. Again, heavier is better here(chocolate over the dairy dessert I got — but they’re all phenomenal). After dessert, our amazing waiter came over with a HUGE chocolate and nougat display and we got one more bite. And they sent us home with 2 boxes of candies. Outstanding!

This is the best dining experience of my life. I’ve tried a more expensive Micheline 3-STAR in Florence, Italy that was 75% more expensive, and I would pick this currently 2-STAR one over the Florentine 3-STAR ANYDAY! Here’s why: 1. The ambiance was the first thing that impressed. It was royal but and elegant but not dated. 2. The recommended wines and stemware. The sommelier was very friendly and the choices he gave us in terms of champagne and wines were fantastic! The stemware was made out of ultra thin, crystal and makes you want to try the wine it holds even if you weren’t told what’s in it. 3. The food. It was simply fantastic. No amount of words can really do it justice. Try it for yourself and you will be a convert. 4. The hospitality. The waiters have this thing called service down. When I was in Italy at the Michelin 3-Star. I felt rush. Perhaps those waiters were trying to give the impression that they’re fulfilling my every need at the fastest speed possible. But when you’re at a dining sanctuary like this, you want to feel like you’re living as if it’s your last day today… slowly taking all the wonderfulness in. Le Cinq’s waiters and waitresses did just that for me. I was never rushed. They were so encouraging and complimentary despite my French being very bad. This is a must-try. I found them through which ranked them as the judges’ favorite out of all the Michelin 3-Star’s when it’s only a 2-star! I’m pretty sure this will be a 3-star this year as Christian Le Squer took over this place after the Michelin stars have already been awarded to Le Cinq. Enjoy one of the best meals of your life!

I was so excited to try this restaurant and was sadly and utterly disappointed by the 4 course Gourmet Lunch my boyfriend and I had earlier this week. In fact, so much so that I wish I could take back the entire experience, except the ambiance(The Four Seasons in Paris is of course gorgeous). First, my boyfriend nearly chipped his tooth on a piece of olive bread when he bit into an olive pit(no warning from the waiter but the other olives were pitted so it was unclear whether this pit was just missed)– we really should have complained but the meal hadn’t even begun and I think we let our anticipation for the actual food get the better of us. Second, although service was generally very good and what you’d expect, our waiter forgot about our final course and after an awkward period of waiting, we had to ask for it.(honestly this wouldn’t bother me if it hadn’t been for the olive pit and my general disappointment with the food) Third, the food seemed more focused on technique than taste. To be clear, the technique was indisputably impressive. The problem was that, at least in my humble opinion, the food simply did not taste good at all. There was not even one course of the four that my boyfriend and I enjoyed– I did not finish a single plate. For example, the first course– a bed of eel with 2 preparations of beet– was just off for me and set a negative tone for the rest of the meal. The following 2 courses were slightly better(and at least looked more appetizing) but were still very disappointing. However, by far the worst aspect of the experience is that I began to feel nauseated within 30 minutes of leaving the restaurant and became very sick by the time I reached my hotel– I was so sick that I couldn’t eat the next day and I was only in Paris for 5 days after planning this trip for months! I have read so many wonderful reviews of Le Cinq that I almost can’t believe how bad my experience was. The fact that this is a Michelin restaurant, and a nearly $ 200/person lunch, makes it all the more disappointing. I hope others have a better experience than I did– it quite frankly was a major damper on my trip.

Le Cinq was one of the best meals I had during my most recent trip to Paris. First of all the room is breathtaking; vintage classic french room with big flowers, columns, more flowers, majestic space like a castle. The room is perfect for a romantic dinner. The kitchen is helmed by Chef Le Squer who was given the proposition to regain three star status. I think he has done a remarkable job and Le Cinq should regain Michelin three star status immediately! The service was superb: tablecloths perfectly ironed, water filled immediately, courses brought out in perfect style and timing. It was more of a spectacle. The food progression was amazing; I had the tasting menu about 9 courses with snacks in between. The food was artistically presented and the taste was superb. My favorite dish was the sweet breads which were cooked perfectly. Don’t forget the dessert cart; they had a hippo that was carved out of chocolate! We got a box of nice sweet goodies as a take home gift. My mother received a rose and also a «diamond table gourmand book» with Chef Le Squer’s signature. When we were leaving the restaurant, four servers stood there and shook our hands in succession. What a grand experience! I loved it here; definitely fits into my top 5 meals of all time!

Had an incredible meal here. Very creative and delicious food. Each plate is a work of art. The service is flawless. Got to meet the chef after our dinner who is very ambitious in his presentation of the dishes. Loved his attitude about the food. We got a tour of the wine cellar from our sommelier after dinner also. Very historic wine caves. I will come back for sure when I get back to Paris.

Food: 4 Service: 2.5 Ambiance: 5 Overview: great food, but underwhelming service. Food: We had the dinner tasting menu of 8+ courses in the fall of 2014.(The menu is different now.) The meal took about 3 hours total. The food was deserving of the two Michelin stars, but appropriately, is not deserving of three stars. One or two dishes, particularly their take on french onion soup, were remarkable and unlike anything I’ve had elsewhere. One or two dishes, including the foie gras, were underwhelming and much like something you could eat in a cheaper restaurant throughout Paris. But everything else was interesting. Given the price, the food would be five stars if not for the one or two disappointments. Service: You would expect perfect service here. But lower your expectations, especially if you’re young and American. They check most of the boxes of paying close attention, clearing plates at the right time, etc. But the service lagged in a few critical respects. First, we were not offered a cheese cart, notwithstanding our ordering the full tasting menu. Some people rave about the cheese, some don’t. But we were expecting the opportunity to judge the cheese for ourselves. We did not ask about it at the time because we felt it rather inappropriate given the formality of the restaurant and perhaps more relevantly, felt a bit rushed out as we were the last ones in the restaurant(see below). Perhaps beginning the tasting menu at an 8:30 reservation is too late for the premises to include cheese in the tasting menu. If that is the case, it is incumbent upon Le Cinq to tell diners in advance, especially as we watched with eager anticipation as every other table was offered the cheese cart while we were enjoying our entrees. We wrote to the restaurant afterwards but received no reply. Perhaps it did not help that, notwithstanding our formal attire, we could not conceal our heavily American-accented French. I would hope it was merely an oversight rather than a consequence of our later reservation time or our non-French origin. Either way, their failure to explain the oversight is disappointing. Second, they began cleaning up in the dining room(i.e., putting chairs away) while we were still finishing our meal. Yes, it was nearing 10:30 and we were the last diners still eating. But having been a server, I know that it’s Restaurant 101 to not begin putting up chairs or other activity in the dining room to make even the last diners, who are still eating, feel like they are rushed. Third, much like us, the couple next to us was celebrating an anniversary. They received special copies of the menu. They also had a photo taken of them and framed for them, while they were eating. We were not offered this treatment. We do not need special treatment. But if we’ve ordered the most expensive menu at your restaurant, we would not expect such blatant bias in treatment. Unlike them, we did not order champagne, but only ordered a bottle of wine. Maybe Le Cinq simply cannot believe that some people prefer to celebrate with wine instead of champagne.(Although, in Le Cinq’s defense, that couple seemed rather miserable, so perhaps Le Cinq’s staff was hoping to brighten their mood.) Ambiance: The ambiance, assuming you’re looking for lots of faux-opulence, gold, and classic Parisian stuffiness, is on point. You get here exactly what you expect, at least as far as ambiance is concerned. But, if you want to enjoy yourself, the bar and lounge patrons right outside the restaurant, who were being serenaded with live jazz, seemed to be having a much better time than anyone dining at Le Cinq.

really my favorite restaurant in Paris mainly because of the impeccable American-like service. The food is exceptional, which is why everyone goes there but the ambiance and the service take it a notch above other restaurants that are 3 Michelin stars and are in the same price range. I have enjoyed breakfast and dinner there and loved both. Everything we had was fresh, complex and a piece of art to look at.

The dining room was magnificent and our appetizers were phenomenal. It was the start to a perfect evening. Service was exquisite. We ordered the Maki Rolls of Red Shrimps from Sicily to start along with the langostine appetizer. Two of the best dishes of our entire trip! So why only four stars? We shared the lamb entrée that is for two people and cooked for 17 hours in a tajine with spices and raisins. We were expecting a braise or at least a fork tender piece of meat. What we got was more of a rustic chunk of meat that unfortunately lacked flavor. The sauce was thin and it was really disappointing. Their bread service also fell flat for me. Of the three Michelin star restaurants we went to on this trip, this was not my favorite. Cheese cart and dessert are not memorable. Overall a nice experience, but we will try somewhere else the next time we are in Paris.

I’m quite surprised that Le Cinq is only a 2-Michelin Star restaurant because we had a full 3-Star evening & consider it among the best meals we’ve ever had From the moment we walked in the doors of the Four Seasons, we were immediately greeted & offered assistance. When informing them we were dining at Le Cinq, the doorman escorted us to the restaurant & gave us an overview of the rooms we were walking through — so nice! The hostess then escorted us to our posh table and we were off to a spectacular dining experience. The waiter approached us & confirmed we were vegetarian(props for recognizing our special request when we booked our rezzies & not making us remind them) and he then handed us an entire menu with vegetarian options — no hunting around for what would be suitable Amuse Bouche: fried zucchini blossom, crispy radish w diced veggies, egg shell filled w cantaloupe gazpacho & almond mousse Cucumber & tomato gazpacho — this was phenomenal & the pairing of the cucumber w/the tomato was excellent. We almost thought there was a hint of curry or spice that gave it a slight kick but whatever it was, it was delish Soft boiled egg w/chanterelles & parmesan brioche w green beans & chanterelles — loved the creamy yolk mixing with the woodsy mushrooms Mushroom risotto w baby veggies — we saw carrots, turnips, tomatoes & peapods. The risotto was pudding-like and smooth like all the best risottos should be. Very cheesy and buttery — we loved this! Cheese Course — huge cart w/lots of different cheeses. We told the server we preferred stronger cheeses & received: Comte, Roquefort, Camembert &1 more I cannot remember its name — the portions here were huge & we could have easily shared 1 plate Lemon sorbet & almond foam — refreshing palate cleanser Poached peach w/salted caramel ice cream, in cotton candy w red berry sauce & little meringues Truffle plate — hazelnut cream on a brownie, tiny macaron & a cream-filled kumquat THEN out comes yet another dessert plate which was an entire cart of assorted candies that they would plate up for us! Ended the evening with a small gift box filled w/more of the candies we had chosen — such a wonderful touch & we certainly were thankful we could take advantage of the 20 min walk back to our hotel… we needed to work off this wonderful meal! TOTAL: 2 people 10 courses 2 champagne; 1 bottle wine 3 hours € 900(including tip)

Wow, definitely one of my best meals in Paris. The ambiance is a 10 and the service was superb. The best dish I had was the lamb shoulder. They literally brought it out steaming and falling off the bone, and it had the most incredible flavor. The wine list was great as well. It’s probably one of the most romantic restaurants I’ve ever been to. Very opulent and typical/classic Parisian style, but it is very pricey.

I came here for afternoon tea and a meal on two occasions. Was pretty impressed with the level of service and the quality of food on both occasions(more so on the food vs. high tea). The soft boiled hen-egg /w the artichoke purée was beyond amazing. It’s the kind of wonderful taste that involuntarily brings a smile to your face when you bite into it. And the chocolate ingot dessert was like the second best thing ever. The atmosphere was amazing — definitely one of the more opulent places for a restaurant. Not many places, Michelin rated or not, can match the décor and setting. It was absolutely worth the experience.

My ratings(based on one visit here for lunch): Food: 2 stars Service: 5 stars Ambience: 5 stars First the positives. The ambience is opulent and luxurious, with nice plants and fresh flower displays. The service was impeccable, especially if you come here for a special occassion. As for the food… I was not very impressed with what we ordered. Wife and I had lunch here, and we each ordered the three course menu. I had the veal tartare, glazed eel and octopus, and a dessert(I forgot the name). To be frank, the food was a disappointment. The veal tartare was not tasty at all. My wife and I couldn’t even finish it; that rarely happens. The eel and octopus dish was okay. I finished it, but didn’t enjoy it that much. The desserts were not finished either; again rarely happens when I am around. The desserts were just not good and basically tasted bad. Wife ordered the lobster soup, blackened pork, and another dessert. The soup was the best by far; the pork was good too. These were the only two items worth their full price. The wine was very good too. This was supposed to be the culinary splurge of our 2 week European trip, at ~150 euros a person. At that price, the food here was not memorable and was a disappointment instead.

Unmistakably gorgeous especially this time of the year at Xmas ! That’s what four seasons always does. Restaurant is also fabulous(lounge is my fav too, actually that’s enough to feel the luxury for the light lunch) you can expect what you expect. Tasting menu with pairing wine was one of the best. Pigeon and foie gras was amazing(although you need to have the space of your stomach after the several plates as it’s quite rich of course :), loved desserts too mango sorbet with Japanese shiso leaf was refreshing. Again all of reputable French chefs seem they are fond of Japanese infusion … You can’t talk about French without it these days ;) Great for the group of lunch or dinner with an open ambiance and feeling fabulous !

So, what’s a trip to Paris without going to a 2 Michelin star restaurant and getting the full experience? Enter Le Cinq, located inside the Four Seasons Hotel George V off Champs Elysees. Random fact that Greg found out: The hotel has a flower budget of something in the ball park of one million euros a year. In case that doesn’t impress you, the rest of the décor will. To take some of the sticker shock off the experience, we scheduled to have lunch instead of dinner here the day before we left Paris. To be clear, that DOESNOT mean you get anything less from a quality or service perspective. As seen in most of these traditional and upscale places, you should come dressed appropriately. That means, guys need to be wearing jacket, and women shouldn’t be dressed for a Las Vegas club. This was also the first time I’ve ever been in a restaurant where they bring over a small stool for your precious French handbag to sit on while you dine in luxury. You’re greeted immediately by about 3 people before the sommelier comes over and asks if you’d like to start off with a glass of champagne. Don’t confuse this with the free table bread that comes when you sit down at places, the champagne glasses we ordered showed up on the check. We selected the 3 course prix fixe option and I fully accepted the likelihood that I would need to be rolled out of the restaurant by the end of our meal. Here’s what went down: Dish #1: A beautiful bread basket came around and with it came two options for butter: traditional and seaweed-infused butter! The seaweed butter was a little strange, but absolutely worth trying. We had to pace ourselves, otherwise I would have asked to try each bread option in that basket. Dish #2: Palate cleanser that came with prawns three ways: the head served up as a crispy chip, the body that was served cold with a light green sauce, and a lobster mousse with fruit at the bottom. Yes, strange, but incredibly delightful. Greg wasn’t too keen on it, but I thought it was amazing. Dish #3: As my first appetizer, I selected the Marennes Oyster variations, which meant that I got oysters four ways: in a sorbet, 3 raw on the half shell, in a curry foam, and oysters in a prawn soup. My favorite: the 3 raw on the half shell was absolutely incredible. Especially the raw oyster with the green apple and wasabi. This all literally blew my mind. Greg opted for the poached foie gras with hibiscus. The foie gras was LITERALLY a steak-sized slabs. They were HUGE! Greg thought eating that much foie gras in one sitting was a little too much, so in order to conserve stomach space, he had to resist finishing the dish. The hibiscus really added to the dish since we don’t see that combination in SF(actually we don’t see foie gras) at all. Dish #4: Iberian Black Pork Pressa with chantrelle mushrooms, cabbage with ginger, and browned onion. This definitely falls into the category of one of the best things I’ve ever had. Both Greg and I are HUGE fans of Iberico pork and consider it one of our favorite types of pork of all time. Everything on the dish got eaten. Yes, even the garnishes got eaten. It was one of the best dishes I’ve ever had! Dish #5: A little palate cleanser that was a citrus sorbet in lychee type sauce. Much needed after that pork and in prep for dessert! Dish #6: I had the As A Russet Apple Tart Tartin served with Provence quince marmelade and saffron sorbet. Greg had the Grapefruit cocktail with vanilla, which came with pineapple carpaccio, rum and tonka bean ice cream. My dessert was literally the cutest thing I had ever seen! Greg thought his dessert brought on a whole onset of feelings: light but rich, refreshing but heavy, and most importantly, delicious by all standards. Finally came my favorite part: Black Forest Water and the dessert cart! By this point, it was getting ridiculous. I couldn’t really put down much more, so I asked for a cappuccino to aid the digestion process. Then, the dessert cart showed up. We had a few types of chocolate, a mini cake, a lemony pastry and some other randomly delightful things before saying«non merci» when that cart came around. Service here was absolutely outstanding. I know you expect good service when you throw down money, but the service here was the best I had ever experienced. Everyone was incredibly polite to us, helped us understand each dish when it was presented, and even made some small talk along the way during our 3 hour adventure. I sincerely hope we make it back here when we come back to Paris, it was one of the best treats I’ve ever had on vacation.

Went there last week for our 20th wedding anniversary dinner. We’ve eaten at many truly exceptional restaurants. This was truly the best meal we’ve ever had. We also spent a small fortune! On balance, worth every penny and then some! We each had the 8-course summer tasting menu along with a wine paring that we split between us(a full flight would have been eight full glasses of wine for each person– we wouldn’t have been able to walk home). All told we spent about 900 euros or about $ 1,300 for the two of us. Again, worth every penny. Service was warm, welcoming, personal, and very special; I couldn’t have asked for better. Sommelier Nicolas Charriere was friendly, helpful and showed a deep understanding of the wines we drank and of the pairings. He was also very interested in giving in-depth answers to our questions. I can’t begin to describe the food– it would require a 20 page essay. What I will say is that Eric Briffard is a remarkable and gifted chef. There’s no bullshit, no gimmick, just a profound respect for taste, texture, aroma, and presentation– everything was true artistry! If you have to stretch financially to do it– DOIT! If you have no financial limitations, DOIT! You won’t regret it.

Ladies — come here for some guilt-free gold-digging because only the gentlemen’s menu contains prices. I was overjoyed by this and immediately went on an ordering rampage, pointing wildly at all sorts of items on my cost-free menu such as lobster and… oh, would I like a glass of pink champagne? Why, don’t mind if I do! What sets Le Cinq apart from other restaurants is the ambiance. The dining room is opulent, ornate and slightly stuffy in the sense that I couldn’t act like my usual whore-ible self. The food, while delicious, felt a little uninspired when compared to Quince in San Francisco. I tried the veal and aforementioned lobster — both entrees were rolled out on carts and plated tableside, which I enjoyed watching immensely but didn’t find particularly memorable in taste. The seared foie gras was good, but paled in comparison to Le Comptoir De La Gastronomie’s for a fraction of the price. The free bread was marvelous though. I ate piece after piece of that buttery, flakey brioche while ignoring my screaming thighs. I also loved the marshmallow lollipop from the complimentary dessert cart. When I informed one of the servers that it was my favorite, he quickly ran back to the cart to grab another one for me. Too bad I was too embarrassed to tell him that I really wanted ten more. Service was extremely precise, professional and warm. My only complaint is that our original server disappeared toward the end of the night, leaving us confused about how to get our check. All is forgiven though, because the staff took a picture of us and framed it in a card as an awesome souvenir at the end of the night. I’m sure the credit card bill was also a great reminder, but thank goodness for French gallantry!
