Really nice place, just don’t buy a gin and tonic, or rather; if you want one buy the cheapest. The Bird and the Churchkey take pride in being a gin and tonic bar, and thus have about 20 different mixes, ranging from 85 to about 140 kr. These are all with different gin brands and tonic makers and various garnish(cucumber, strawberry, vanilla and so on). The problem is: they all taste the same. I’ve tried about five different ones — not all in one night — and even your brain really wants you to think the drink tastes like the two scruffy raspberries they put in there, it just doesn’t. It tastes like any other standard g&t. If you want a good gin and tonic, go to «Kind of Blue» in Nørrebro and get one with cucumber and pepper. The selection of beer(both on draft and bottle) is A-OK — not great — but better than most places. I recommend grabbing one and enjoying it in the company of friends, by sitting down next to one of the stuffed birds(yeah, they have those) — you gotta be there a bit early, the place get pretty packed.

Admittedly I hate gin. It is seriously the last thing on my mind when I think about what I’d like to have in my cocktail. Yes, even after tequila. And I don’t drink beer, either.(I swear I’m not nearly as difficult as this post makes me seem). One might ask oneself how it is, then, that I ended up in a bar that serves only gin and beer. Good question. It would seem gin and beer are the top two beverages of choice for the Danes. And since I’m all about finding out how the Danes do, I figured I’d take one for the team and check out a new spot in a fun area of town for a Friday night(Gammel Strand). Even though the gin did ultimately end up curdling in my stomach(will spare you the details), the bar itself is pretty solid. There is plenty of space to move around, seats outside if you want fresh air, and the vibe is on the less-pretentious side of Copenhagen Cocktail Life(see my reviews for other cocktail bars around town if you want to know how I feel about pretentious people and their crazy cocktail obsession in Copenhagen). All of that said, I gave it three stars because it didn’t blow me away, and I didn’t hate it. The name, however, is pretty clever. I would go back if the majority suggested it, and this time, maybe drink sparkling water. ;)

I had never been to a Gin bar before, but I like the concept. The décor is nice and simple with a good atmosphere. Sometimes the bartenders dress up, but not always. It’s fun when they do since it goes with the theme. The drink selection is limited, so just be prepared when you come. If they expanded their menu a bit more I would be a bigger fan. But after two visits, I have tried most of the menu.
