This restaurant had it all. Glacially slow service and bad food. We were seated right away because the place was half full. Took 10 min to get menus, 15 min to get the waitresses attention. I say waitress because there was only one for 30 tables. There was an owner, but he seemed busy walking around tidying. Whenever we asked him for anything he would point to the poor waitress. When the food finally arrived(after 30 min) it was almost inedible. Calamari was like eating o-rings fried in thick greasy batter. Pizza was doughy with a layer of dull brownish red sauce on top of the cheese. Our kids, of course. Wouldn’t touch it. After a bite I started to think they were right. I ordered a tortellini with ham and cream sauce. When it arrived, it had the same brownish, dull hue that the pizza did. Tortellini were falling apart… Honestly, I’m getting queasy just thinking about it again. We had some great meals in Nyhavn, but this one was easily the worst we had in Copenhagen(perhaps in all of Europe).

Very good Italian style pizza hidden in the bustle of Nyhavn. Great selection of pizza. The house red wine(offered by the glass) made for a perfect combination.

Impressively kitsch décor and a door opening straight onto the tables is a bit draughty in winter, but it feels like a little trattoria right in the heart of Copenhagen. It’s cosy and the staff are Italian — a pretty good indication of authenticity. We ordered pizza and just before it arrived, the man at the next table was heard saying ‘this is the best Al Forno I’ve ever had’ — another good sign. The pizza arrived very fast, was inferno hot and straight from a wood-fired oven. It tasted amazing and the base was crisp and light. No soggy bottoms here… The toppings were plentiful(I’ve never seen so much artichoke on a Quattro Staggioni) and intensely flavourful. If you enjoy pizza, this is about as close to heaven your tastebuds will get! It’s also great value for money — we paid 234DKK(about £25) for 2 pizzas and 2 cokes.
