We serve the finest espresso, sandwiches, and smoothies in town! We are also licensed and serve local Beer, Canadian Wines and have an evening menu. Dine in or take out and stroll over the bridge to Assiniboine Park.

We are well known for our gluten free and vegan options. Delicious desserts and homestyle iced teas.

History

Established in 2010.

We are a small business with proud Winnipeg roots. The location was once a bike shop and a café/roasting house. Joe Black Coffee came around we redesigned the space, adding a splash of metal, cozy couches and fireplace. We were also recently voted one of the TOP 3 cafes in Winnipeg!

Danielle and her husband and another couple started Joe Black Coffee in 2010. Danielle studied the art of Espresso in Toronto and her passion for coffee and desserts helped shape Joe Black Coffee into the extraordinary café it has become.

Disappointed. The noise level makes it difficult to carry on a conversation. Their expresso maker was so LOUD! We had to ask to get our table wiped… and got a grumpy «ya, right away.» Then when I got my pumpkin spice latte it was luke warm… we won’t go back.

Drop in here to meet with my daughter, the place was packed for a Saturday afternoon. The food I had along with the latte was worth the trip so I am considering them for catering a future event. Over all a nice place to sit enjoy the day and go for a walk in the park afterwords.

I hosted an event here recently and the owner was really great to our group and very accommodating.
On very short notice (less than a week) they reserved a space which they set up to accommodate our group and also offered attendees a nice discount.
When we were there the owner was working behind the counter and was very friendly and pleasant to talk to. He definitely made me feel like my business was appreciated and I’d definitely go back for that level of service alone.
On top of the really great service, the place is lovely, with a comfortable, cozy atmosphere and lots of tables and couches, and the fare is also really nice.
I had a great Jasmine tea latte and tasted a friend’s chocolate cake, which was delicious.
I’ve also eaten here before and the food is great. I can’t remember exactly what I had — it was a sandwich with chicken in it — and it was filling and delicious.
I really like this place both as a venue for hosting small events and as a place to just sit and hang out.

Name and owners have changed. Now Joe Black Coffee Bar. Good menu, coffee tastes fairly generic. Lots of the usual coffee bar fare with some twists like the «Nutella and Banana Panini». Prices are very fair, parking is limited, such a nice place, hopefully the owners don’t rely on just Portage Ave frontage to get clients through the door. Lots of potential, give it a try!
Free WI FI, fire place, ATM, couches and comfortable seating. Thursday morning storytime at 10am with free hot chocolate and cookies!
