It makes me very sad to write this review. I used to really like this place. We came in tonight and it was empty and smelled of gas. We got cod and the fish was so greasy u couldn’t eat it. I ended up leaving over half my plate full even after peeling off the batter and trying to eat the inside fish. I’m sad the pleasant tattooed guy sold this place. The new people who run it are very polite but we are never going back. I’m very bummed for them.

We enjoyed our outing mostly due to the friendly, accommodating service. We rolled in with a half hour to closing but were made to feel welcome and not rushed. That was greatly appreciated. We had the halibut and the deep fried shrimp. Given that we were the only ones there our food was cooked to order and served hot out of the deep fryer. Gotta like that. The portion sizes were okay. The supposedly large halibut for the cost was okay. The size of the fish filet looked huge, but when you cut through the crispy coating, there was not a lot of fish in there(puffed up in the fryer I guess) The shrimps were a reasonable size. The portion of fries was okay and we had mixed reviews. Some found them okay while some thought they were a bit dry. The all star dish of the night was the side of cole slaw. It tasted fantastic! When I mentioned this we were kindly brought another portion. Very nice. Some have stated this is the best fish and chips in Winnipeg. If that is the case we are in trouble. The food was okay but considering the fish filets come out of the freezer into the fryer, that can’t right up there in my books as the ‘best’ of anything. It was not cheap, $ 16.95 for the large halibut platter which was not that large. If everything was about 30% cheaper I would rate this as a great little find for a quick, tasty snack of fried foods but that was not the case.

Very small family owned restaurant. The fish and chips were amazing and they offered some traditional sides. I also liked that they had a selection of different fish and not just one. I would definitely recommend Ducky’s to anyone craving good fish and chips.
