Found this place on the hot businesses category on Unilocal. Our food came at least 45 minutes after ordering. Maybe they were understaffed in the kitchen that particular night … I don’t know as it was my first time. When the food did come I was not particularly impressed by the taste. When I went to use the restroom to wash my hands, I learned that they had run out of soap :(. I will not be repeating unless a friend with great taste vouches for them having changed.

My husband and I made our first visit to Tres Chiles today. The food was fresh and very tasty! Great friendly service and great prices. We had the chicken burritos and mexican beer. They make their own delicious avacado sauce that was so good with the burritos. We will definitely return to try more from their menu. Love this place!

I can’t believe I have not heard of this place. Amazing Mexican food. Great Margarita. Definitely coming back!

Food is realtively good here but agreed it usually takes some time during lunch. However they are streamlining their lunch menu so that should speed things up.

I managed to go for dinner last night, 15−03−28, so I can now complete my review: happy to report I’m still loving’ this place and as with others, Tres Chiles is now my go-to for Mexican too! The empanadas where superbly done, but what really sent them to the top was the accompanying Avocado sauce! I could not resist taking«The best Burrito in Town» as a challenge and the Chorizo one I had, definitely met the claim. Also, the best local guacamole I’ve ever tried. A very spartan but functional interior with basic thematic décor that s not over done(no hanging sombreros to duck, etc.). Although there were only a handful of other diners while we were there, service was fast, friendly and professional. Well done Balto! Tres Chiles is a gem and we’ll be back soon for Friday night Mariachi!

We went for the special $ 2 tacos and guacamole. It was delicious and prompt. Next time I will try some of the menu items. Food was fresh. Good Service. They gave us extra guacamole. Music was a. little too loud.

I ordered a soup and a pupusa, the chicken soup was excellent! Really soothing and healthy. Lots of veggies in it and chicken, I reallyyyy liked this soup and so did the rest of the table. The pupusa was okay, a little undercooked compared to other places. Overall I would definitely go back and try more things on the menu. Not a fancy place but decent service.

This is my go-to place in Waterloo region for authentic Mexican food. Prices are quite reasonable, and portion sizes are generous. The burritos are large and flavourful, enchiladas and taquitos are delicious, and their tacos are tasty. I’ve never had a bad dish at Tres Chiles, and neither have my friends. My only complaint is their lack of a proper hot sauce. They brought me out what they call their hot sauce, but it had little heat to it at all. I expect authentic Mexican food to have authentic hot sauce, too.

This place is good, the food is good, not great but it takes a long time for the food to come out of the kitchen. Burritos are large, and therefore offer a better value in terms of quantity than some of the other things on the menu. They also come with refried beans as I recall and a lot of good attention was paid to presentation and detail. Pupusas are very small and don’t feel like they are worth the $ 2 each. In general, many of the things on the menu are pricey. There are lots of drinks to try, many of them have a very chalky taste which I guess I’ll just chalk up(ha!) as what they’re supposed to taste like, having no prior experience with the drink.

This is the only place I’ve found in Canada that serves the same size of burritos I’ve found in California(enormous) The burrito is pretty tasty, but not what I’d call«authentic.» It seemed very Canadian/American, which isn’t always a bad thing. The burrito meal comes with chips and a dipping sauce. I thought it was pretty good value. The nachos were also very tasty. Standard toppings, cheese, lettuce, jalapenos. I also tried Tamal de Elote and Papusas, but found that they were more on the bland side. The Tamal especially. It was also kind of soggy. To be fair, I’ve never tried these things before, so I can’t be too critical. It might just be that I’m not a fan of these foods, rather than them being made poorly.

We were excited about visiting a brand new, seemingly authentic Mexican restaurant, but were unfortunately met with disappointment. First impressions were positive — the restaurant was decently decorated, the food at other tables looked colourful and yummy. My spouse and I waited for a few seconds and were approached by the waitress, who looked incredibly bored or rushed, and asked us if we wanted our food to go. Talk about a warm welcome… We told her we’d like to eat in, wandered to a table, and eventually made our order. Once our orders came out, I had to wait for couple of minutes, then hail down the waitress to ask for cutlery. She came back with only one set! She must’ve realized this was silly and came by a minute later with another. The food itself was incredibly bland. The side of corn nachos was sadly the best part for me, covered with a skimpy amount of salsa that didn’t have any spicy or limey notes… nothing interesting! I ordered a shrimp burrito that was packed full of cool bland rice and contained no savoury flavours. My spouse ordered a chimichanga that didn’t look like a chimichanga; it was a little less bland, but still did not offer anything tasty when I took a bite. When my spouse went up to pay, the waitress just stared at him. «Um, so… how much is it?» he asked. She and another fellow then spent a few minutes calculating our total while we stood there awkwardly, the fridge from the old Subscafe prominent in the doorway to their kitchen. Talk about unprofessional — them not knowing what we even ordered, and failing to cover up the blatant fact that their restaurant scavenged equipment from the old business in their location. I thought about going back again one time, but they were closed. In the middle of the day on a weekday. They don’t have their hours posted. Just skip this restaurant and go to the bar next door. I’m sure their quesadilla packs a more flavourful punch for cheaper and friendlier atmosphere than the cold, near cardboard wraps we ate at the dull Tres Chiles.
