popped by in here after lunch at Bao Chau next door. wasn’t really overly impressed with the service, 2 workers, and 1 customer, yet no one to service me, I’m potentially gonna drop a few bucks lol. what attracted me was their sandwich board sign of up to $ 250 trade in of your old smartphone… done thru a 3rd party evaluation, curtly by the worker so no big deal; will visit another Wind store then lol. free parking in front.

Seedy! Lied about what was covered under a warranty they sold me. It was worth $ 300+ and a higher phone bill to get away from these guys.

«Phone bill about two G’s flat No need to worry, my accountant handles that» Not a review for this particular store so much(nice staff) but a review of Wind Mobile network in general in the approx. 8 months I’ve been with him. I was 10+ year Fido/Rogers customer before. With Wind offering their $ 40/month unlimited ‘everything’ plan(unlimited data(with tethering) /US+CAN calls+MMS /global text /voicemail /caller ID) and finally having a sexy Nexus S on offer, I jumped ship. This is before factoring how much cheaper US roaming rates are on Wind(i.e. $ 0.25/min vs. $ 1.45/min or $ 0.15/text vs. $ 0.75/text). I got severally ass-raped for US roaming with my Fido. I know I’m vulgar — but ‘ass rape’ is the most apt description. Anyways — some common questions I get asked about my experience with Wind Mobile: COVERAGE: If you’re concerned about coverage in your area, you need to consult: . It’s a «crowd sourced cellular coverage mapper» — so the data is from real-world conditions from actual Wind customers. Unfortunately, I happen to live inside one of their 1 — 3 «bar» coverage areas — so my calls are occasionally choppy or I even get the odd dropped call. The dropped calls sometimes happens when I’m downtown — especially when I’m underground or in an elevator. It’s the pain of the new/growing network(had the same problem when Fido was new to the game). So obviously, Wind coverage isn’t as great as Fido/Rogers — but it’s only $ 0.25/min or $ 0.15/sent text(free to receive) while ‘roaming’ on another carrier(which I’ve never had to use). In the 8 months I’ve been with Wind, I can count on my hand the times I’ve been in the city and I didn’t have coverage, a handful of calls dropped and a few people telling me my call quality sucked. However, signal strength/call quality/tower density is dramatically improved in past few months — rarely have any call issues now. But consider the money you’re saving on their monthly plans. Even if you had to ‘roam’ on occasion — you’re still saving a shit-ton of money. And please don’t tell me because you go skiing a few times a year or have a relative in the boonies justifies you paying an extra ~$ 20/month for ‘better coverage’. CUSTOMERSERVICE: I’ve only had to call their customer service three times. I was speaking to someone within 5 minutes of waiting and CS was pleasant and knowledgeable enough. So overall, I’m pretty impressed with Wind — but there are a few hangups: NO iPhone: This doesn’t matter to me(*ahem* Android is better) — but is a instant deal-killer for most. NO Call Display+/Name Display: Call display works on Wind but it will *not* display the registered name. Minor irk as they will probably never introduce it. Limited coverage in Canada: If you travel within Canada a lot — Wind doesn’t have ‘Home Zones’ in most cities… namely, Montréal. MMS Problems: After a few months with Wind, I found out that I wasn’t receiving all my ‘picture messages’. This is bad. This is *very* bad for a single man in the modern world. Picture this: you get a text saying, «hey baby get my pic? im waiting. come over ;)» — this is an exciting but stressful situation. Driving at Mach 4 over to aforementioned residence while salivating to claim your booty — thinking the entire time, «Gee — I hope she made steak!» … wait… what did you think I meant? Pervert. And by ‘booty’, I used it in the pirate-sense of the word. But in all seriousness, it was a known problem with the Wind network and certain Android versions. After some Googling and some tweaks — problem solved! No more miscommunication and crushing someone’s self-esteem: «Oh… I thought you were talking about food…»
