Vancouver Public Library – Marpole Branch

I was in the area, therefore came here and returned a book and some DVD’s. Unlike the other libraries they’ve kept the charm in place. It looks the same as it did in the 90’s if not sooner. The library is very small with a few internet stations. There is an odd old library smell which borderline on nostalgia and odd. Very nice people here. This is very family focused so there’s a lot of children’s material.

Nice little library in the Marpole area which is very walkable so it’s convenient., but parking is an issue here. I don’t think there’s a parking lot and street parking is hard to come across. Like the other reviewers mentioned this is a pretty tiny library. There are two desks in the back and some chairs around the area. There’s a pretty big assortment of Chinese books, newspapers, magazines, and DVDs if you are into that.
The Wi-​Fi/​internet is free here, but you’ll need a Library Card or an Internet Access Card (if you’re from out of town, free signup) to access. Seating area is limited and unfortunately, there’s no power plugs for your laptops or portable devices, so make sure your batteries are full.
There’s also a few computers up front, but you have a time limit of an hour each day. Access times are linked to your library/​access card. Librarians are very friendly. A nice place to stop by to get out of the cold/​rain.

I’m super glad to have a library literally right around the corner from my house! The only issue is, this is a tiny community branch and the selection is really limited. The «new arrivals» and «fast reads» sections, which are supposed to feature new books, haven’t changed since January and I’ve read them all! There is a huge selection of Chinese language newspapers, magazines and books, and there is free internet. Also, you can have books sent from larger branches (including the Central branch downtown) at no cost, to pick up and return at the local branch. That helps! The fiction section of this branch is moooostly mysteries and thrillers (Daniel Silva, James Patterson, Lincoln Child, David Baldacci), and romances (Danielle Steel as faaaaar as the eye can see), so if you’re looking for fiction, non-​fiction or biography, you might be well served to check out what’s in the Central branch online and have it sent to you.
Regardless of the limited selection, I LOVE THE LIBRARY. And we should use the library. All of us. It’s just one of those things that makes a community, you know?

Small and cozy are good words for this library. Several public comps and two self check stations. Not a particularly quiet place. Staff is friendly enough and selection is pretty good. Free wifi with library card.
