History

Established in 2002.

Owners Vera Zyla and John Ince sought to create a sex-positive environment that would foster the joys of erotic loving through retail products, education and artistic creation.

We now carry over 1000 different environmentally friendly and organic sex toys. lubes, condoms, pleasure products, sexuality books and educational videos.

Our seminar program is very busy with seminars on a wide range of sexual subjects. Sometimes we take our seminars «on the road.» Vera and John have given seminars at universities, conferences, trade shows, private homes, and even the local church.

We started our online store in 2003 and it is now going strong. We completely revamped our website in 2007. We launched Vancouver Bachelorette in 2009 and are happy to offer all types of parties at our store or in your home.

Business Owner

Vera Zyla is a sex educator, co-owner of The Art of Loving and has a degree in Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). She has been leading erotic education seminars and events for over 12 years at The Art of Loving, conferences, trade shows and private gatherings. Vera is seen regularly in the media, and has been interviewed for TV, radio, newspapers, and magazines. She believes that a happy and active sex life is one of the keys to mental and physical wellness.

John Ince, co-owner„ is an erotic arts enthusiast. As a lawyer and writer he has been professionally involved with sexual issues for over 20 years. His book The Politics of Lust was published in Canada in October 2003 and in the United States in 2005. In December 2005 the Georgia Straight profiled him in a cover story.

New location that just opened up on Broadway which is more accessible than their other location for me. I came here to look at some BOB options for me (need an upgrade). There isn’t a lot in terms of selection, however, they do have is of quality. The customer service was really friendly. Bonus for $ 20 — $ 25 they do offer some seminars.

I’m a simple woman.
All I ask out of life is for a roof over my head, a decent scotch in the cupboard and a on-hand supply of nude soft top stockings with a french heel and black backseam…
I am constantly on the hunt for this third life requirement, which means if i’m near a lingerie store or adults only shop, I will pop in to peruse their hosiery. And so, when I spotted this place across from the Elysian Room, I promptly jogged my caffeinated self over.
They did not have my stockings.
However, the lovely lady working behind the counter would not let it end there. Not only did she take down the product description but low and behold, a week or so later, informed me via Twitter that they had both found, and ordered, the stockings in.
… then they followed up a week later, when my space cadetism kicked in.
And I am STILL a boob, as i’ve not gone to pick them up.
So i’m writing this review in part, as a kick in the ass to finally go get them. But also because, customer service like this doesn’t happen often. I didn’t «pre-order» them. I did say I would take a couple pairs but they asked for no deposit. That sort of trust is pretty darn special.
Beyond stocking love, this place stocks some good high end toys. If you’re a adult shop newbie, this is one of the least intimidating to dip your toes into. The only pass? I’d go elsewhere for lingerie. They have some cutesy role playing stuff but for day to day — there are better options in town. But if you want to go and receive some very honest opinions in a relaxing setting, give this place a go.
Service Ninjas — hands down.
FUN FACT: I was pleasantly surprised to see they host seminars throughout the month for both singles and couples. Some of which are female only. And free or exceptionally well priced.
NINJA HACK: Their stockings are seriously well priced. With the exception of Model Wear on Hastings, I haven’t seen a place stocking this stuff for less.

It’s a small store but I like the simple lay-out and organised feel of it. It’s a quiet store but the staff are helpful when you need them. They always ask us if we need any help with anything.
The prices aren’t bad and it’s in my neighbourhood so it’s my go-to store for bringing sexy back.

Came here to specifically get a certain vibe ‘the red zinger”
Walked in with my 2 girlfriends and it was dead silent.
Nobody was in the store-no music nothing.
The girl who worked there did not say hi or greet us in any way.
Too busy online reading something.
Lucky we knew our way around and didn’t require any assistance.
I could not imagine how i would of felt if i was someone who had not ever been in a place like this– I probably would of turned around and walked right back out
Considering this is a more «upscale boutique» type sex store one would think that she would of greeted us and asked if we needed any help finding anything or if we had any questions. The customer service was nil.
Asked for the vibes, and for her to test them for us (which she did very unenthusiastically) and bought a pair of thigh highs. Paid and left
Womyn’s Wear on Commercial Drive is similar in product selection but with sales people who really go out of there way to help.
We all agreed that the atmosphere and customer service left MUCH to be desired.

Even though this place is pretty small, it caters to everyone. I was really impressed with the relaxed atmosphere and the friendly staff. If you look on their website they also do workshops so if you are down for something new, check one of them out, sometimes they’re free and sometimes there is a nominal cost.
