Very affordable Japanese cuisine. Giving it 5 stars because the Japanese food is much higher quality than other Japanese restaurants of the same price range. Family owned business — owner is very friendly and recognizes you. Would recommend the tempura, house green salad(delicious dressing), and chicken terriyaki. My mother loves their bbq fishes(E.g. saba, mackarel, salmon, etc).

Takara deserves a much higher rating than it has now. They have great food at amazing value, the food comes quickly, and the owner is very welcoming! There’s also hardly ever a wait. Fav affordable sushi place! I come here for dinner at least once a week and I love the B combo for $ 12 or the 3 item mix-and-match for $ 9.99. Highly recommend getting the spicy tuna roll, house salad(their dressing is bomb), and salmon sushi(big pieces of salmon!!) Also they have 10% off on Mondays and Tuesday’s, or else you can collect stamps to redeem for food.

The service is quick and it’s a great place for the usual non fancy suspects like California roll, dynamite roll, tempura etc. Don’t expect Michelin star quality… Thats not what they’re there for.

This place is really close to my house and somewhere I went almost every single week as a kid. It was originally Japanese owned but now is Chinese owned and recently went through renovations. My favourite has always been the udon combo with a plain udon, 3 pieces cali roll and chicken teriyaki with salad for only around 10 dollars. I’m not sure how it tastes now but their rolls are okay but we find their cooked foods a bit better. Read more here!

2.5 This place used to be a 4(neighbourhood joint) but rising prices and declining freshness make it average. good in moment of desperation. safe: cali roll, chopped scallop roll, salmon avocado roll unsafe: uni(blegh!)

Used to come here all the time with family once upon a time when it was owned and managed by a Japanese family. Fast forwarding to a decade later, I’m not sure what happened, but the new management has driven the food quality down the toilet. Was kind of hoping that aside from using the same menu offerings, they would’ve inherited the same recipes and cooking styles from the previous folks, but oh well, just wishful thinking I guess!

Ok this is not Japanese food, it is a Chinese restaurant serving their version of Japanese food. Which is ok if that is what you want and just don’t care about authenticity. The prices are average, the service is speedy, and they have a re-opening deal after being closed for a few months after a fire. It is very close to my house but after living in Japan I just cant eat there. For East Vancouver and their many Chinese customers this place seems to be good enough, but it would not survive downtown.

Not authentic and not good sushi or sashimi. The cooked dishes like teriyaki and oyster motoyaki is ok at best, but the sushi was terrible. I threw away half of the sushi and sashimi we ordered. We ordered delivery and they were 45 mins late.

I ordered from here for delivery and tried a variety of items, most of which were not even satisfactory. I consider myself an avid sushi lover and have eaten Japanese food at many many restaurants — this was one of the most disappointing meals. I had the miso soup(meh) and house green salad(a little soggy). Spicy tuna rolls are my favourite, and the ones from Takarabune were just not good. Not spicy, the tuna was reaally fishy, so just a very unenjoyable bite. I had the salmon terriyaki– one of the worst things that I have ever eaten. Just looking at it made me feel gross. Teriyaki sauce was literally a watery, tasteless soup at the bottom of the fish with soggy sprouts, and the salmon, although big pieces, was again extremely fishy and dry. No flavour, definitely not teriyaki. My family had the chicken teriyaki, it looked a little better but they were not pleased with the flavour or sauce. I tried the golden california roll– this was tasty, but nothing special from other places. If just one item was disappointing, I might think that it was just bad luck with that one item, but this was an overall disappointment. On top of it all, prices were not exactly cheap, pretty standard prices but I can get incomparably better sushi for cheaper. Will never be ordering from here again, this place really needs to up their food standards.

Not authentic, which I didn’t expect, food’s average & prices are fair. And the 80s décor doesn’t help either, carpeted too, a bit odd haha. But the square shaped bar is my preferred place to sit, as the other tables of 4 along the walls don’t do it for me. Friendly service but can’t say would recommend to go there. Would rather go to the one just down the street right at Vic/49th b/c it’s a bit more modern, cleaner & has bubble tea.

I came here with a friend of mine who’s been around to different Japanese restaurants. We ordered a roll and a bukkake. Atmosphere seemed more Chinese than Japanese. Staff was average friendly but prompt. Good view of the sushi bar. Over all pretty average! Although the bukkake was hot. My expert was surprised that it wasn’t a cold dish. Otherwise, everything else wasn’t that bad!

Consistently delicious. Ever smiling long time staff. Some of our favourites include Oyster Motoyaki(pic: ), the Bento(pic: ), the Sashimi(pic: ), the Tempura(pic: ), the rolls(pic: ), seafood and fish(pic: ) etc etc etc. Add to that very long list our new fave, the Seafood Okonomiyaki. Mouthwateringly, lipsmackingly amazing. The best I’ve ever had.(pic: ) ______________________________ *Review 418⁄365 personal challenge

This is a great little place with good sushi and relatively good service. We come here when we are craving chirashi and good ol’ California and BC roll. They could slice their sushi a little thinner but I guess they have to keep up with all the other Japanese places around town. By the way, I love their spicy scallop cone and the old folks who don’t eat raw fish are a fan of their fried tofu and lunch boxes.
