Open split level inside, this spot was great to get out of the rain and grab a quick cup of tea. Of all the coffee shops in Vancouver, this one wasn’t the most impressive, but it wasn’t bad at all. There was lots of seating, a variety of pastries, great tea options, and clean bathrooms. Good for ducking in while wandering around Gastown.

I had the southwest chicken sandwich and the tomato basil soup which were both delicious. The soup was creamy and seasoned well. The restaurant was very hip and the seating outside was perfect as it was a nice day. I would definitely recommend this place of you’re visiting gastown.

What a sweet little coffee shop. I love to grabba java and sit at the second level bar and people watch out the large windows peering into bustling Gastown. I have only had drip coffee here but I have heard wonderful things about their lattes. I enjoyed a really beautiful bowl of French Onion soup with a nice little pasta salad on the side. Carbo loading… don’t judge me and my life choices. Everything tastes fresh and fairly healthy which is a nice quick option in the hood. I found the crew to be welcoming and friendly but not synthetically enthusiastic about serving me which I can totally appreciate. Great little joint. Sometimes tricky to find a spot because so many people camp out with their laptops.

This is a great little place for lunch or a snack throughout the day. Everything is homemade and DELICIOUS. The salads are fresh and tasty and the sandwiches are generous with toppings. And did I mention the coffee? It’s one of the best lattes in town! Make this a must go to place on your list of places to check out in Gastown — or better yet, make the trip… it’s worth it! Hats off to the chef of this little joint.

Today I was walking around Gastown and decided to try a different coffee place for brunch. Stopped by Smart Mouth Café and I have to say I was impressed. I loved everything about this place — from the food, interior and the service(Bianca there was very helpful). I had the ham and cheese croissant and a latte — and both were great. Will definitely go there again.

This little joint is so pleasant! With an open multi-level wooden panelled interior, the atmosphere just cries out COZY. I had a cappuccino here whilst typing out an assignment I had to finish for school, and just had the most relaxing and focussing time. The crowd is so friendly and respectful — either also working individually on their own laptops, reading, or just catching up with friends.(The coffee was really good might I add.) I would definitely recommend this coffee shop for a quick place for a nibble(although I haven’t tried the food yet, I see many customers who come in for it), a coffee date, or a simple quiet time for yourself — whatever the occasion!

My good morning ritual is enjoying a Chorizo Breakfast Burrito… yum! Staff are friendly and efficient especially at lunch when things get hectic. Heard Nutella lattes are also great, but this is second hand info

Best place in Gastown for soup sandwich and salad. They have a great selection and fairly healthy choice. Gastown can be hard for a healthy lunch that’s quick, Gastown has a lot of options for restaurants but not for cafes with a solid meal or take away. Our staff love coming here

Solid espresso and hipster vibe and ambiance in the heart of Gastown. Try the Dolly cookie bars with chocolate chips, coconut, and raisins with your espresso. The seating is pretty rustic and roomy, and they have daily salad and soup specials.

Funky exterior, cozy interior. This is one coffee shop that caught my attention in the Gastown district. I love the Nutella latte that I tried, it was a good blend for me. Would definitely come by again if I am in the area.

Takes 30 minutes to heat up a sandwich with one person ahead of ya in line. And they’ll give the 7 ppl that came after you their sandwiches first… worst service in the neighborhood!

Absolutely the best and strongest espresso coffee during my stay in Vancouver! If you’re missing an espresso as it’s being served in Italy then you’re at the right place here.

Was in gastown with some time to kill before our appointment and stumbled upon Smart Mouth Café. I had a London fog aka earl grey tea latte with the apple and brie sandwich. I loved it all! The sandwich was really really tasty! It was the perfect place for our snack.

You know what… There are a lot of high-end coffee places that I love in Gastown, but Smartmouth is consistently overall my favourite coffee shop. It has excellent food & snacks and the coffee is great. It doesn’t quite fit in the neighbourhood, but that’s why I like it. They are doing their own thing. As an overall coffee shop, I highly recommend this place.

Working in Gastown there’s not really that much in choice if you are in a hurry for a quick lunch that is also healthy. That’s why I love Smart Mouth, they have different daily soup and salad specials so you’re not always eating the same thing! They also have very yummy set menu items — I’m talking about you Espresso Roast Beef, you too Apple and Brie! They can get very busy but it’s worth the wait! Keep up the great work!

Good coffee, awful service After inserting my card in the payment device it didn’t work. As it was a foreign debit card I wasn’t sure if it got accepted. When I asked she told me: it’s your card! In a tone then was a 100% saying: you figure it out. I was shocked. I thought the coffee was okay but not great, so 0 * service and 3 * coffee

This place can get really busy. Their smoked turkey, and southwest sandwiches are scrumptiously awesome. Their coffee is good. Tomato basil soup was amazzzzinggg. I have a friend who works here which made me come in the first time, and now I can see myself coming in way more often. It is delishhh. Definitely check this place out if you are feeling the sammich game.

food here is made fresh daily with a lot of love; Baked goods here go fast, and it seems they’re always trying something new. On a sample plate was a dish of rice krispie squares with a generous dose of vanilla! Sandwiches are also constantly rotating– nothing in their display case is static! The grilled cheese sandwich here is more than your usual one note sandwich: tomato pesto on jalapeño bread adds a bright, acidic finish to round off the wonderful, cheesy gooeyness. Had my eye to try out a chicken club, but they make them in limited quantities, Monday– Friday. As luck would have it, they too go fast. As I was leaving, I heard the barista call out an order for a nutella frappé… I must remember to try one next time.

The staff were friendly and sociable. They helped us pick good brunch items and invited us to hangout as long as we needed(we were waiting for check in to be available at our hostel) The grilled cheese was decadent and delicious. The Iced Coffee Frappé that I had was literally the best of my life. I come from a place that is the biggest consumer of ice coffee’s in the world(it out sells cola) and would not hesitate in suggesting this place to any fellow South Australians. Thanks for breakfast! I’m sure we’ll be seeing you again soon.

The coffee isn’t very good, the service is pretty bad and the places to sit aren’t comfortable, but it all looks cool. Value/price = 2⁄5 = a bad 0.2

Asked the staff at the counter, «What would you recommend a vegan?» and the girl replied, «VEGAN?! Nothing. All our food has animal products.» Ok, it’s one thing to not have a single vegan option, but it’s another to be completely unaccommodating. Will not recommend this place to anyone who is vegan, gluten-free, or has any food allergies — actually anyone for that matter.

love their gluten free brownie! It is super delicious. I always walk by to check if they are serving the mushroom soup, but they haven’t had it for few weeks now… please bring back the mushroom soup for lunch! Service is so-so. depending on who’s working but some of the girls are a bit snobby.

I stopped by Smart Mouth Café after work as it is on the way to the train station and to be honest, what caught me eye was the large blackboard sign saying that muffins and cookies were half off! I was quite surprised and rushed into the store quickly to discover that they had chocolate zucchini muffins! I bought two and I regret not buying more. These muffins are amazing! I don’t know how healthy they are but honestly, I love zucchinis and I love chocolate, so might as well right? I couldn’t really taste the zucchini but the muffin was very gooey and decadent, while being well priced!(I believe that a muffin was around $ 2.30-$ 2.60 or so and then I got BOGO) Anyways, I always pass by here during lunch and it’s always packed with a lot of people. I believe that their soups and sandwiches are very popular so come early if you want to get a seat!
