time for a face lift! Smaller size but good enough for the area as it’s not really high traffic. Washroom at end of aisle 5 ;)

The line ups are always so long that I’ve started going to the Save On in Wesbrook Village(UBC Campus). Their prices are higher than any other grocery store, and some of cashiers are incredibly slow or down right surly. Avoid at all costs if you can.

This Safeway needs a reno… the kind where you completely tear it down and build a new store… it was probably good in the 70’s…it is worth the short drive to the Safeway at McDonald & w. Broadway

This has long been the least desirable Safeway in the entire Westside due to it’s size, product selection and modernization but last night was the straw that broke the camel’s back. At 8:30pm, there were only 2 tills open, one regular and one express. I counted 16 customers waiting in the«express» line and a dozen in the regular one. That did not factor in the people that came to the line, saw the line, said«WTF» and abandoned their groceries.

This is my closest Safeway, and I can speak to its qualities fairly well. The Pharmacy is top of the line. The staff know the regulars and are at the same time discreet. When they are not too busy, they always come right out into the aisles to help find something. The manager seems to care about the store and what happens(December 2012) and I’ve seen him out in the aisles asking me if there’s something I’m looking for, and I’ve seen products added that I have suggested. The expiration date issue is not something I’ve noticed any more than any other store. The gluten free selection is reasonable but there are other Safeways in Vancouver with better coverage. This Safeway has lots of good frozen selections, rice flours, and some Kinnickinnick mixes, and that old Celiac flour mix that used to be the best product available five years ago. The checkers are reasonably good, but not as cheerful as at the Arbutus Safeway and the Oakridge Safeway.

This place is so depressing… but I’m a glutton for punishment. I know there are better Safeways, but I keep coming here ’cause it’s the closest one to my favorite produce store across the street. Best to stop here M-F between 9 – 5. Avoid nights and weekends. Super inconvenient — I know. But you’ll get more pleasant people at the check-out and accommodating managers ready to open a lane if needed or even recommend the right bread for your needs.(Unexpected, huh?) You may even get a glimpse of those hunky firefighters who do their weekly shopping for the station. Just remember to double-check those expiry dates before you buy! I’ve had to return bacon once before — yuck.

Well this Safeway doesn’t have as large of a selection as the other safeway on Macdonald st. But today i am reviewing their pharmacy. I was sitting there(standing, actually) perplexed by their selection of cold/cough/flu remedies because I need to feel better quick before dinner at the boss’s house tonight. Lo and behold, a pharmacist comes out to help a guy with his selection of cold meds and of course I eaves drop. The pharmacist actually outed Tylenol by informing us their cold and flu(2 different boxes) pills are actually the same formula but just packaged and labelled differently(to make more money no doubt). And after that guy made his selection, he proceeded to help me with my selection – not just recommending the same thing as he did to the guy but listened to my ordeal and informed me which is probably the best choice to make, symptom– and price-wise. I was impressed.

I would greatly avoid this Safeway. Anything that can expire either has or will in the next day, their selection is minimal, and I hear that they have the most expensive prices in town. Go to the Macdonald Safeway for a much better experience.
