Specialties

Tai Chi, an ancient Chinese martial art, is an excellent way to bring greater health and wellness into your life. Often people think it’s for older people but Tai Chi is beneficial for everyone! And the younger you are when you start learning, the more you’ll benefit over the years. In addition to its martial applications, Tai Chi also improves your sense of balance, increases your range of motion, and helps to relieve stress.

Reeling Silk T’ai Chi Chuan is Rich Sobel’s Tai Chi school in Vancouver, BC. Currently he teaches Qi-gong and Yang style Tai Chi at the Creekside Recreation and Community Centre in the former Athlete’s Village in Mt. Pleasant. Meet the Business Owner

Rich S.

Business Owner

Rich first started to learn Tai Chi in the early 1990s when his chiropractor in Syracuse, NY, gave him a set of exercises for his lower back. He said, «hey, these exercises look sort of like Tai Chi. How about I just learn Tai Chi?» and his chiropractor said, «Great idea!»

He started by learning a long Wu style Tai Chi form with his first teacher and then learned an Old Frame Chen style form. When he moved to Vancouver, BC, he continued his study of Chen forms with Grand Master Xu Gong Wei, adding Old Frame 2, also known as Pao-Tui, and a Chen sword form. He also learned a bit of Ba-Gua before Master Xu passed away.

Over the past several years, Rich has been studying Yang and Chen style Tai Chi with Masters Shou-Yu Liang, Helen Liang and Chenhan Yang. He has learned several new Yang style fist and sword forms, and New Frame Chen forms as well as beginning studies in Xing-Yi.

For Rich, Tai Chi is a lifelong practice which he loves sharing with his students.
