Tonight was about my fifth time at Pizza Carano, and given how much I like it there, I figured it was time I showed them some Unilocal-love. The Kale Caesar salad is absolutely addictive, it’s one of the things that keep me coming back. The pizza has a gorgeous thin crust, with topping variations from classic to adventurous. But what stood out to me tonight more than anything, was the great service. Lately I’ve had countless experiences with poor customer service, which has made the positive experiences stand out that much more. From the moment we walked in we were treated very well. The server(owner?) was friendly and attentive, without being overbearing. A fine balance not many servers get right. But he did. And given how packed the place was all night, they’re clearly doing something right. Well done Pizza Carano. If you haven’t been yet, you’re missing out. And if you have been, you don’t need me to tell you to go.

Good, not great, 4 stars. But a bit pricey for what you get… I’d head over the Farnia personally. Service was good though, and prompt. I would come back if i was in the area.

LOVE the pizza here! Again, found this from Unilocal when we were in the area. First time in we stayed in and had a couple of beers from Spain with our food. The pizza was delicious, we had the spicy coconut kale and ham and pineapple. The service was impeccable! The owner(totally my assumption, if you’ve been you know who I am talking about) is so charismatic! The next time I retuned I ordered to go. It was a Friday night and the place was bumpin! I should have called ahead and placed my order, I guess the word is out about this place. We had the short rib pizza which was a special and the margarita. I also added the kale Caesar salad, I ate half of this before I got home it’s just as good as the pizza!!! Will be a staple with every order form now on. I also have to give this place props for spreading the word about other places to visit in the fraserhood. I follow them on Instagram, and thanks to a post they made I learned about Savio Volpe. Totally quality.

Disappointing experience all round. Me and my partner ordered 1 pizza, a glass of wine and a beer. The place was busy but we soon realised that nobody had any food in front of them. I was asked for i. d after ordering my wine, I am clearly over 25. My wine came out in a tiny tumbler glass and my partners beer was forgotten about, even though the waiter was doing nothing else. I had to ask for it after 20 minutes. There was a small group of friends seated near us, they came for the gluten free pizza, disappointingly, they had no gluten free option left, the waiter suggested a salad, they seemed ok with that. I watched as people came for take out pizza, this is clearly the main focus of this pizza place, there was 1 chef making pizza, extremely slowly too. The loud techno music gave us a headache as we waited 40 minutes for a pizza, It finally arrived, all 4 skinny slices. We ate it so fast as we were now starving. The group of friends near us got their food wrapped up as they were waiting so long, and 1of these meals was only a salad. As they left, they waiter offered a couple beside us a free Salad that he had mistakenly wrapped up for the other crowd, I thought this was a bit strange /unfair. Service was unacceptably slow, disappointing, and the food was not one bit filling. We will never be back, as we left the restaurant everyone had empty tables in front of them and dissatisfied faces, what a disappointment.

Really good pizza! And really good service. We went in once a few months back, and just went back a few days ago. The server completely remembered us. He was kind, helpful but not overbearing. Their oven had shut down for a little because the fan had turned off — but he informed us right away before we even looked at the menu so we were aware in case there was any extra time. But our pizzas came out in a reasonable time despite the issue they had had. It is a slightly small so I’m guessing there may be a wait at times but its worth it :) A friendly neighbourhood pizza joint, with good pizza and good people thats definitely a good place to stop by.

Friendly owner. Not much seating here, so don’t come with a big group unless you’re ready to wait for space at the one communal table. This seems to be the most value for your dollar out of all the pizza places. Enjoyed the funghi pizza $ 16, truffle oil and fior di latte. They do a brisk takeout business, which I’d consider if you don’t want to wait. It is fairly quick turnover for seating though.

We love this place and come to eat once a week! My fav is the Thai coconut kale followed by the Sopressata(spicy ham and the best olives). This may sound weird but the kale ceasar salad is awesome too!

Great pizza, great place, great people. I’ve eaten here five times now and ordered something different each time and they never disappoint. Tonight I ordered the«Carne» pizza, which has three types of meat as well as pickled jalapeños for some nice heat… fantastic as usual. Their crust is thin and light and wonderfully tasty. And they not only serve beer and wine… they even have a few cocktails, including a Moscow Mule that’s really good. Highly recommended all around.

My wife, teenage son and I are visiting Vancouver from Portland Oregon. We were very pleased with the pizza. The crust was nicely charred and flavorful. All the ingredients for the pizza seemed top shelf and very fresh. The in-house pizza topping combinations were well thought out. Good job. Quality food can sometimes be spoiled by poor quality service. Not the case here! Marc who served us was very pleasant, fun to talk to and always checking on our water and drinks. The chef was a fine fellow too! Portland is full of gourmet, wood oven pizza these days and Pizza Carano would easily stand up or surpass any of them. Cheers! Rick B

I don’t hit up too many pizza places in Vancouver, but hands down, Pizza Carano is a place where I would come back again for dinner. Pizza Carano is a pretty small place, with a long table in the middle to seat about 8 – 10, and some seating around the resto for 2 people. It was a rainy Saturday evening, so we luckily got seated at the middle table(shared with another party). The 3 of us shared 3 pizzas, and even though we are big eaters, we had 3 slices leftover in the end. But, we had the Thai Coconut Kale, the sausage and roast fennel, and artichoke, spinach and roasted garlic. They were all incredibly good, I’ve never tasted pizzas like that before, but my favorite is the sausage and roast fennel. Fennel just tasted so good when its slightly crispy and oven roasted, and the sausage wasn’t overwhelming at all. The coconut kale had a base sauce of peanut satay, which made it slightly soggy in the middle, but really, its not a big deal. The pizza crust holds up well(for the most part), its just thin enough but nice and bubbly, and super crunchy! I also really like that its served on a wire /mesh rack on a plate, so the bottom crust doesn’t steam up and get chewy /soggy. The pizzas came out in 5 minute intervals, but by the time we got around to our 2nd and 3rd slices, they were cold(but still delicious). Depending on how many we are ordering, I would probably ask if I could have them staggered a bit longer, but they are a small place so I’d only ask if its not too busy(… which, by the looks of it, doesn’t seem to be the case). Next time I go, I will definitely try the mushroom and truffle pizza. The party next to us ordered it, and it smelled so amazing. They also have 2 – 3 specials, which aren’t normally offered on their menu, but you gotta get on it quick(follow them on Instagram /Twitter), because it flies out the door fast! We arrived at 7:30 on a Sat night, and the one we wanted to try(apple bacon) was gone :(

Thanks to Unilocal and my daughter’s pizza cravings, we decided on Carano dinner on one of our nights out. A bit warm inside, we sidled up to the center table and were greeted by friendly staff(forgot his name, sorry) and given the story of the place. We ended up sampling three pizzas: sausage, fennel and kale, margherita, and the unique spicy mushroom and coconut. All three were excellent. We loved the crust and the adults like them all. The spicy one was a bit spicy for the kids, but they liked the other two. Food was great, service was great and the story is great. Five stars and we’ll be back!

Amazing. Started off with their meatballs — extremely flavourful, don’t even get me started on the tomato sauce. Ordered a margherita & Italian sausage and fennel pizza. We got to the pizzeria around 6:15 and it was already packed! Arrive early or order some take-out for guaranteed pizza bliss.

.Vancity. There, I said it. Yes, it’s bold, especially given how many pizza ovens there are in this city. Came in for the first time with a group of friends who are sorta regulars, and was greeted by the very friendly manager. The place is quite small with one long communal high table and some two-tops, but the wait was not long for a space to open up. The great thing about going with a group is getting to order a lot of food and try bits of everything! The bad thing is that I broke my «two slice rule»(sorry not sorry). We ordered 3 pizzas — funghi, sausage, and spicy coconut kale. All three were made with white sauce and were delicious. The crust was right kind of ‘thin’ and with just the right amount of cheese: toppings ratio. This is no easy feat! I would say the funghi was my fave(mmm…truffle oil). We also started out with the Beet Salad(solid) and the Kale Caesar Salad(you will be addicted to the dried mung bean bits!). Value-wise, too, you can’t go wrong, especially to leave with that full of stomach. My tastebuds were very happy and can’t wait to go back and try the rest(and save room for tirimasu) But why take this commoner’s word for it? Go try Carano for yourself! You won’t be sorry.

The four cheese pizza was so good. So good I had to stop myself when I was full, I would have just kept eating otherwise. Friendly service and a cozy spot to eat in if you don’t want to do takeout. I will return for sure, hopefully when they get the liquor license as a beer or glass of wine with the pizza would be awesome.

* Corny * This little nook of a pizza shop tucked in between all of the Filipino restaurants and shops is someplace I had been meaning to try for a while. Finally got around to popping in and trying it out. When the guy running the place screamed out from behind the counter to me at the table, «What do you want?» I screamed back for the white sauce, sausage, thyme-roasted fennel, fior di latte, and arugula($ 15) pizza. The pizza was a little bit different than other spots around town. The crust was much lighter(both in colour and denseness). It tasted similar to what a crust made in a home oven tastes like where it cooks a bit longer than in a classic pizza oven. Not sure why exactly as they seemed to cook it off fairly quickly. Perhaps the temperature of their oven is a bit lower? The other major difference was the amount of cornmeal on the bottom of the crust. It was excessive for my taste and I had to wipe little bits of corny cornmeal off of my hands and the table. One of the drawbacks of the cornmeal usage is that the bottom of the crust had no leoparding at all unfortunately — which is something I normally enjoy on my pizza. The toppings were of good quality, but a bit oversalted when combined, and I would have preferred the sausage to have a bit of fennel taste to it. Photo: Overall the pizza was ok. I wouldn’t rush back to the neighbourhood for it again, but would eat it again if nearby and in the mood for a quick corny bite.

Not on the same level as the competition, sadly. It’s pretty near my house, and I love good pizza, but I’ll always drive the extra mile for Farina, Barbarella or Via Tevere. The crust is the biggest problem — paper thin, way too much cornmeal, and not chewy at all. The edge of the crust gets a nice char, but the bottom doesn’t. My wife noticed that the pizza’s seems a tiny bit smaller than is typical, but I didn’t whip out the measuring tape to confirm. The sauce is ok, toppings and combinations are great, so it’s not like it’s a bad pizza, but you can do better in this city.

Did takeout for their second most popular, the sausage fennel. An easy repeat. For $ 15, it could be the city’s best hidden value. just too bad they don’t deliver like Pizza Barbarella a few minutes drive away.

Friendly service and delicious and authentic pizza. Boy am I ever glad this pizza joint is in my hood. Never will I order from a chain pizza restaurant again! Well, that’s not true, since I can be lazy, and Pizza Carano doesn’t deliver:( I ordered the Funghi to go. It had a nice earthy flavor from the mushrooms. The dough was nice and chewy in the middle and had a perfectly crisp crust. The quality and freshness of ingredients was definitely present. I felt full after only two slices. Washed it down with some white wine I bought at the liquor store down the street. +1 star for being so close to the liquor store:) The gentleman who greeted me at the door was very upbeat, friendly and funny. I like this place!

Been meaning to try this place for a while and tonight hubby wanted to have it for dinner. It’s a cool little place. The only downside is no air conditioning but we still decided to eat in. We started out with the caprese salad and it was absolutely delicious. We ordered the Serrano ham pizza and it did not disappoint. I haven’t had such good pizza in a while. The crust is so good — thin and crispy. The ingredients on the pizza are so fresh tasting and the pistachio nuts are so good! The service is excellent. We ordered the carne pizza to go. Love this place and I will definitely be back. Good find!

You know that feeling when you’ve discovered something amazing, but you don’t want to tell everyone because a) you want to be the first to personally take people there and b) you’re worried the place is gonna get super busy and ruin it for yourself??? Well, here I am ruining it for myself, but at least I ensure they stay in business to continue serving the dankest pizza in town! Start with the Serrano Ham… Bring tissues, you might cry.
