Business Owner

Shannon has been a stylist for 20 years. During her career she has won many awards including Colourist of the Year and BC Stylist of the Year. She continues to compete in National competitions and is a Stage Artist for Joico International. Her standard for excellence can be seen in her stylists.

«When I opened my first salon, I wanted something different! I wanted a great working environment for my stylists and a very comfortable yet fashionable environment for my clients. I believe I have done this.

I have chosen stylists that have talent, great personalities and a passion for their chosen career. These qualities are then nurtured and supported whether through photo shoots, advanced education, or team building sessions. Went here to try a place in my neighbourhood but what a mistake. After describing in detail how I wanted my haircut the stylist decided to do the opposite. When I told her I wanted my hair to be over my ears she even clarified this by holding her hair above and then over her own ear. I told her that I wanted it over and liked having some length. Just a clean up I added.
She then proceeded to give me a near buzz cut. Before I knew it the damage was done. When I said that I had wanted it over my ears not above, all she could say was ‘I, m sorry’. Lots of other choices in the Main Street area. Do yourself a big favour and avoid this place. Wednesday, October 23, 2013.

If you go here and don’t want to pay an arm and a leg you might not want to go for a senior stylist. I was looking for somewhere in mount pleasant that was affordable and stylish. They booked me in the same day (unlike East Vanity Parlour which had a three day wait… but would have probably been 30.00 cheaper)
All and all i ended up paying about 70.00 for a wash and cut. My cut is very simple, and it took the «senior stylist» about 20 minutes.
I wont go back there again, but if you have the funds and are looking for an average haircut… i guess I’d go here.

The livingsocial coupon was a complete rip-off.(i paid $ 66 for $ 125 worth of services) it was supposed to include cut, colour, shampoo, and styling, but I ended up paying an extra $ 150 for my really short hair. The stylist dyed my hair some dark brown colour first and added some red highlights… so the all over colour was obviously included. I checked their website, and it says that for short hair highlights it ranges from $ 60-​$ 80, and so how could I have been charged $ 150 extra? Its not a deal at all, its a scam! The whole process took 3.5 hours, because they had overbooked the clients, and so the stylist was hopping from one client to the next. The stylist also did a CRAP JOB of dying, it faded within 2 weeks, even though I took pretty good care of my hair. Cannot recommend at all! Stay clear from this place.

I have been going to On the Fringe Hair Design for nearly six years now — and there is good reason.
The staff there are quite experienced and know what they are doing. They are professional, but also fun and personable. I really enjoy talking to Amanda — she is a natural at what she does and automatically knows what I like. They always offer me tea, water and a magazine to read which is a nice touch.
I have only been there once when I was not entirely happy with my hair (that’s pretty good for six years!). The hair stylist (Stacey) was awesome though, and told me if I was unhappy I could come back and she would change it no problem. The next day she was very attentive and did not get remotely frustrated even though I felt like I was being picky. I came out looking great, and they didn’t even ask me for an extra penny. Now that’s great service! If I ever got into hair styling I would want to work for On the Fringe!

So this review is for MY haircut! Having been lured back by my son’s experience, I went today to sort my mess of a hairdo out. Had it rather butchered by a previous hairdresser (at another salon) and was very honest about it with Graydon, the lovely man who did sort out my hair. Had my 3 YO daughter in tow, not an ideal scenario for a relaxing haircut, but both she and Graydon coped well! I am now the proud owner of a flattering haircut. I think I have FINALLY found a hairdresser I am going to stick with — phew:)

I’d been growing my hair out for ten months after having it all shaved off, and was searching for a stylist who I could trust to get it right. Graydon was recommended to me and I booked an appointment. I brought along a photo as a starting off point and he got what I wanted and gave me the look I was after.
He was very personable and I left the salon looking and feeling great! I’ve booked another appointment for late December and am going to spread the word that this guy is very good and reasonable to boot!

It’s taken me a few failed haircuts to find a place to call my own. On the Fringe is great in price and they have awesome service. Not your $ 10 hair cut but you wont be spending anywhere close to $ 100 for a wash and cut. Your stylist greets you, takes your coats, offers you water/​magazines and is overall super friendly. People usually have bad experiences at the salon because you put too much trust into your stylist. They can’t read your mind people! Tell them how you like your hair and they will perform as asked. Be detailed and precise and you will be satisfied with the outcome.
Simple décor and well organized. Only down fall is DO NOT LEAN forward on the chairs they tip over!

Absolutely love my new haircut by Emily. My search for a stylist is over. Emily listen to my hemming and hawing about how I hate layers in my hair because it makes it look dry and dead. I said I want two things done 1) chop off the layers and 2) give me bangs. She did exactly that and managed to make me look pretty.
I can’t stress how important it was to have Emily really listen and tell me exactly what she was doing to my hair, just in case I wanted her to stop at any point. This did not happen at the last place I visited, which resulted in dried looking layers.

I went to this place because I bought voucher that gave 50% discount for hair cut and coloring. This place is AWFUL!!! I agree with other review — worst place ever!!! First they are multi-​tasking: stylist started to color my hair, but then suddenly another client appear (I made my appointment in advance and waited for the spot for a week) and stylist moved me to the lobby to wait until she cuts another client! I have to wait for an hour with a color on my head!!! After this I started to worry that the color damage my hair and ask stylist about this… I wait 15 minutes more until SECRETARY (not a stylist!!!) finally washed my hair and after this I waited 10 more minutes… And finally hair cut was terrible! First thing I did when left this salon — make a pony tail! I am going to my usual Tony&Guy to fix their awful job=((((

On the Fringe is an obvious 4 star hair salon in my opinion, it however gets 5 stars because I had a Social Shopper coupon so for a shampoo,
cut, color, and style I paid only $ 66 + tax and tip (and was worth every penny!)
Lets start by saying I was having one of the worst days of my life since I woke up to realize I couldn’t get to work because someone has smashed my car had been vandalized and spent all day dealing with that shit. I already had my appiontment with them and I definately needed some pampering… my whole day of frustrations, upset and stress dissipated the minute I walked in their door. Thier space is very comforting, they had a large selection of magazines and the staff greet you the minute you walk in the door.
My stylist Amanda (she gets bonus points for having and awesome name!) was fantastic and was very helpful with helping me decide on a cut and color that would be a perfect fit for me since I was trying to cover up several bad at home box dye jobs. She was the perfect amount of talkative and calming silence which was just what I needed at the time!
She was helpful with helping me pick a good defrizzing product and didn’t push any add ons which was appreciated. They also have a fabulous policy on their products, you can try them for up to 7 days and if you are unhappy with them you can just take it back for a refund which I thought was amazing.
Their regular prices are very reasonable given the level of service and I will definately be back to On The Fringe!

I decided to check out On the Fringe because its in my neighbourhood and my regular salon was getting too expensive. I walked in and was able to make an appointment for the following day. I had a wonderful stylist named Emily Vu and I highly recommend her! I got a hair cut, highlights, lowlights and solid colour underneath and the total cost was less than $ 180, they also offered a student discount. The salon is nice inside and the staff were very friendly. Emily was great and I will be coming back to this salon for sure!
