Nelson House B & B

We love staying in B&Bs, but I have to say this is the best one we have experienced. We are three nights through a five night stay in the Bombay Room for our 50^th wedding anniversary trip (and first time to Vancouver). We arrived by train and walked to the B&B from the sky train, and since our arrival we have walked down to the lovely sea wall bike and pedestrian path every morning. The room and house are charming, amenities perfect, and breakfasts healthy, fresh, and beautifully presented by our very personable and kind host, David. His advice and personal touch are beyond price. We couldn’t have had a better introduction to Vancouver.

This place is terrific!
Peaceful quiet neighborhood and very close to bars, restaurants, shopping, and Stanley Park.
Michael and David are great hosts. Both are friendly and knowledge about the area — as one would expect after being in business for 20+ years!
Breakfast each morning was excellent. I didn’t eat lunch any of the 3 days I stayed there.
On the last morning sitting around the breakfast table, besides me, were people from Washington State, Sweden, Quebec, and Melbourne.
The first night I had problems with the Internet and first thing the next morning the owner installed a wi-​fi booster in my room — wow!
I will definitely recommend Nelson House to my friends and family visiting Vancouver.

Great place located in the heart of the gay district. Very personal, but private staff. Breakfast was pleasant for the solo travel. Would definitely return if I find myself traveling with in our neighbor to the North.

David and Michael of Nelson House B&B make you feel right at home as soon as you arrive. I was in the Cabin which looks just like a cabin in the woods or mountains complete with a stove heater. It is ideal for a single person or a couple. It has its own bathroom and a very comfortable queen sized bed. The bed had a tempurpedic mattress which is great for people like me with back problems.
Breakfast was beyond compare. Rolls, muffins, yogurt, granola, gourmet cooking and choices galore. It was so plentiful I did not need to eat lunch.
I believe there is parking if you have a car. I chose to take public transportation everywhere and the location is ideal for that. David was able to direct me to the right spot to pick up the bus for the Museum and Grouse Mountain. It is only a few blocks from the main shopping and eatery location on Robson Street. And a few more blocks to the waterfront from there.
Even though the house was filled with guests I got to peek at the Bombay room which was on the ground floor. It is quite roomy and beautifully designed. Each room has its own theme but no matter which room you choose you will have a lovely stay.

With our own little kitchen, fireplace and jacuzzi tub, it felt like we had rented our own secret getaway. We ran into David at breakfast, and he was funny and kind. We all swapped stories while he made us breakfast (which was delicious). We stayed in the Shangri-​La suite, which I would highly recommend! Hoping to come back soon and try other rooms. Very close to the park and many businesses. Would definitely recommend staying here!

David was very nice and accommodating. Not far from gas town, it was very quite neighborhood. There were three parking spaces reserved just for the house, not far from the house, but viewable from the front of the house. We stayed in the Hollywood room. It was super clean and bed extremely comfortable. The room had satellite TV and lots of classic movies (VHS) in the room to watch. David certainly made us feel at home and the breakfast in the morning was wonderful with an array of delights.
I would definitely stay again. I attempted to get the Shangri-​La room, but it was taken.

My husband and I stayed in the Bombay room at the Nelson House B & B for our honeymoon. We loved it! The room was very well kept and the bed was super comfy. Michael and David cooked us delicious breakfasts every morning! We had french toast, crepes, eggs nelson, pancakes, and quiche while there. In addition, there was always cereal, fresh fruit, and toast with coffee and juice ready to go. The best part is the location though. We were within walking distance of downtown and we were able to walk back from Canada place in about 20 minutes. The proximity to Robson and Davie street was also great as there are tons of great restaurants on both those streets. We would definitely be happy to stay at the Nelson House the next time we visit Vancouver.

We loved it! We spent the week-​end visiting from Seattle in August, and it was awesome! David the owner is the BEST, and Michael (manager) and the staff were very helpful and friendly. The location can’t be beat. And the breakfast had a great selection of options. The memory foam mattress was so comfy, we came home and bought one immediately. We we will be back for sure. Thanks David!

Sweet location, great staff and management and a great place to get away while not being too far away!
Bazil cooks a great breakfast in the morning, and everyone makes you feel right at home. David, the owner, was great to be accommodating as needed and make things work!
Great folks from the bay area and the Northwest made it a great time to sit at breakfast, share stories and suggestions and begin the day.

The Nelson House is conveniently located three blocks from Robson street, giving you the chance to step away from the busy streets of Vancouver into quiet residential neighborhoods.
The house is very charming and has a common area full of books and resources for the traveling person. Breakfast is offered across from the living room and is very tasty. It is a big spread with breads, tea, granola, fruit, juice, coffee, yogurt, and a main dish (for us eggs benedict, french toast, and omelet).
We stayed in the Bombay room, which is very nice and big, BUT was noisy in the AM because the building across the way is under construction. So, if you plan to stay at Nelson’s soon after reading this post, I suggest that you avoid rooms facing construction, and that you book a room on the second floor to avoid hearing people walk around while you are trying to sleep.
Highly recommended and worth the expense.

A darling, welcoming B & B just 3 blocks off the Robson drag, and an easy walk to Stanley Park, Nelson House is conveniently located and very hospitable. We stayed in the Shangri-​La room, which was a huge room on the top floor of their well-​kept Craftsman house with a large bathroom, a nice large bed, a private patio, a jacuzzi tub, a gas fireplace, and even a small kitchen. Hot breakfast — eggs, cheese, bacon, toast, granola, fresh berries and cream, coffee, tea, WAY more than we could finish — was prepared to order by the owner, Dave, or his assistant, who were very nice and told us all about the history of the place and had tons of recommendations for stuff to do in the area. The place is gay-​owned and LGBT-​friendly, but they were also very welcoming to us straight folks too. I’ll never forget our second morning there, as the assistant, Matthew, came in from shoveling snow in the freak 2008 blizzard and cooked us omelets in a T-​shirt and flip-​flops while telling us about the Hawaiian paradise he lived in for 10 years. We’ll be coming back every chance we get!
