History
Established in 1985.
In 1906 the widow Melora Edwards bought this house to live with her adult children and be close to her other son — George, a well known & influencial Vancouver photographer. George’s photographs of early Vancouver and BC hang in the halls of the house now, a reminder of a different time.
The Edwards family lived in the house until the last one died in 1964. In 1985 it became the West End Guest House. With 7 bedrooms all with private bath it has become a very popular location for visiting tourists, business people, and convention attendees. All of the city’s major conference facilities are closeby.
As a result of having such a connection with the past the house is set up similar to how it might have felt 10 decades ago. Some of the furnishings evoke that time while modern amenities were added so that the West End Guest House stays abreast of any modern accommodation.
The current owner of 19 years, Evan Penner, is the recipient of the Moyra Turner Hospitality Award.
Meet the Business Owner
Evan P.
Business Owner
At a tender age for B&B owner — 35 — I bought the house to continue with my Hotel career. Being very interested in hospitality and loving old houses I thought the way to best live my dream was to buy this B&B.
Heritage Architecture interests me so I am always looking for ways to make the house more appealing to people with the same interests. But the thing I like the most about the business (and this is over my experience in the hotel industry) is a genuine appreciation from my guests about the efforts I put into the house and their care.
I love being a host and a front line Vancouver Ambassador. The biggest pleasure for me is to help a guest enjoy our beautiful city.
I am married, have two poodles — Friday and Persia and Boots the Cat. Ron, my husband also is very involved in the B&B.
