A Marple favorite. Menu items expensive and portions ridiculously small. Fish is just ok. Place is a sardine can, really tiny. Mom and son are friendly. But you can tell they were struggling for years and that’s why they’re now permanently closed. A solid 2.5 stars.

They seem to be no longer in Business. There are some notices on the door that explain further. Bit sad about it, I used to enjoy the cod and chips and the daily specials.

From the other reviews you’ll see that most people either love it or hate it. Me? Based on what I was expecting, this is exactly what I got. A good olé no nonsense fish n chips joint. Sure, it looks like a hole in the wall(because it is), but what it’s supposed to be. Look, it’s on the corner of a busy strip, in a strip mall, at the end. For the money, it’s a good, decent meal. Standard tartar sauce and vinegar. The mom and son team is also exactly what you should expect. Nice, friendly, neighbourhood feel. Perfect stop on the way home off the Arthur Laing Bridge.

This place is okay. Food is good but gave four stars because the people who work there are great. Recommend trying this place at least once.

At one point I loved the fish & chips here. I overlooked the cramped seating & cleanliness issue b/c I took home the fish & chips anyways. The deals were really good. Anyone working at yvr got a further discount so I was pretty happy coming here. But before I could fill out my loyalty card my taste have changed. By the time I got home 30 min later the fries got soggy & the fish was just ok. Not great but just ok. Plus getting old I have to watch what im eating. Maybe one day I ll soak up the atmosphere & dine in to see how fresh fish & chips are like.

Every time i get off the Arthur Liang bridge and see these guys, still amazed how they’re still in business. Just amongst out crowd, I can’t see anyone waking up in the morning and saying«i wanna go to Pickwick’s for fish and chips!» lol. Yet for White Rock, there’s a few spots that I would… Small place, more geared for takeout… really needs some renos if they want to attract more new customers. It’s average, nothing special. I just rather go to White Spot nearby.

I had the two piece Halibut and fries. It was the worst fish’n chips I’ve ever had. Should have trusted my instinct when I walked in and saw the tiny dirty looking place. Now I’m turned off of eating fish’n chips as the aftertaste still lingers. Yuck!

Pros: Portion Size, Price, Speed, Taste –Large portions –Great deals –Quick –Fairly tasty Cons: Cleanliness, Location, Parking, Space –Grimy –Tucked away in a hard to reach spot –Parking is a very awkward challenge –Tiny Interior, pretty much standing-room-only Notes: Batter –The batter was light & crispy. However, it was a bit greasy…(*Stomach rumbles*) Overall: If you’re looking for a no-nonsense approach to Fish & Chips, at a steal-of-a-price, make out like a bandit to Mr. Pickwick’s!

Best fish and chips in Vancouver! I always get the halibut and chips. Love it with the vinegar. Definately one of the best places for quick and delicious fish n chips. Service is always friendly and fast. The walls have customer reviews on tiles. I love reading what people write on there. Definately recommned anyone that has a fish n chips craving to visit this place!

I’ve passed by this place a thousand times, seen hundreds of coupons for it, heard several reviews but I was not impressed by the food. We got the cod n’ chips and the popcorn shrimp n’ chips. The cod was quite thin, with batter that didn’t stick very well so the fish fell apart as i cut through it. The taste was bland but better than overly salty. The popcorn shrimp was pretty good but definitely the tartar and hot marinara sauce were the stand outs of the meal.

Not good fish and chips. Tough halibut with a weird bready batter; not flakey, but rather chewy and had to use a knife to cut through it(!). It was a challenge that the super-flimsy plastic cutlery was barely up to. The chips weren’t cold when they went into the oil, so they were soggy and unappealing too. Definitely wasn’t worth the price, which was the same as(or even a bit more than) great places like Pajo’s or a standard pub meal. But the thing that gave this one star and not just a «meh» for the food was the hygiene. Everything in the place is sticky. The plastic tablecloths, the floor, everything is grungy and has a layer of grime on it. You don’t want to touch anything with your bare hands.

I never know how much to consider the staff’s service in comparison to the food, so I’ll let you decide… We’ve gone there a few times now with different deals of the day. After the first time, which was probably 2 years ago now, we overheard the lady talking to the man(who I think is the owner) and talking about these«stupid vouchers» and she was pretty upset about it. She wasn’t yelling, but she was definitely speaking loud enough for the little waiting area to hear. But the food was good. Quite good. However, it wasn’t exceptionally convenient for us, so we decided at that time we probably wouldn’t go back. A couple years later, another deal-of-the-day comes out, and we decided to give it another try. Again, it’s not all that convenient for us, but we gave it another try. This time, he was obviously miserable to see more vouchers, and was rude from the start. Once we had our meals and seated at a table, the next person that went to the counter to order handed the guy his voucher and he literally ripped it up and threw it in the garbage, saying angrily«I’m never doing this again. I lose money every time.» So, despite the decent food(and the other reviews are correct, the fish is greasy but good, and the fries are pretty near perfect) but the man there is so rude that I just don’t think I need to support that kind of restaurant.

Hellooooo generous portions. At first the somewhat haggard chef gives off a don’t bug me vibe but all was forgiven when he went above and beyond and actually left the shop to see if my son and I were waiting outside so he could let us know he could start our Social Shopper two 2 pcs cod dinners. It was tastily battered and the fresh cut fries were perfection with a slightly crunchy outside not the limp offering if some other folks. We will definitely go to try some of their other daily specials. Be warned this little gem(emphasis on little) only has two four-seater tables inside and the other three tables are outdoors so I was in a tuque and hood and if I could worn gloves sooo woulda but needed my «five-fingered-fish –holders» for eating.

We tried to go to Mr. Pickwick’s last month on billing day but they were closed due to a plumbing issue, so it ended up being a Japanese day. Yesterday was time again to give the fish and chips a try. With the SocialShopper voucher in hand I phoned in to pick up our two meals. I can’t comment on the prices as my portion of the voucher was only $ 5 so I definitely received good value for my $$. I had to wait a couple of minutes once I got there for him to make some fresh coleslaw — not a problem as I already had my 7-Eleven coffee from the other end of the strip mall to keep me occupied. There were a lot of interruptions and distractions when I got back to the office so it took awhile to finally dig into the food. I agree that fish & chips to go are soggy, but under the batter the fish was cooked perfectly and the chips were just as good. A little heavy hand on the mayo on the coleslaw, but all in all it was yummy. We split the meals amongst three of us and everyone was stuffed. Just disappointed that we were given white vinegar packets instead of malt vinegar(do they make malt vinegar packets?). Great tartar sauce! Mimi G. — Vancouver Self Storage

Had my first experience of Mr Pickwick’s Fish and Chips through a social shopper coupon i found. Ive driven by this tiny establishment many times and finally had the opportunity to go and redeem my coupon. I was surprised by how small it actually is because there literally only two tables with four seats. Got a couple of orders of 2 Cods and chips with a side of gravy. Fish was cooked to order which was absolutely delicious when it arrived. The batter was a light flour that didnt over power the fish. Chips were also cooked well with a crisp outside and a moist inside. Gravy was par, nothing spectacular about it, tasted like the standard out of the package gravy. Overall great value and great taste. Fridays they have a 2pcs cod and chips special for 6.95, seems like a good deal.

Hole in the wall… The best takeout FnCs joint in town! Note: parking is limited as it’s shared with another diner and 7 – 11; so parking is very limited. Best to park along 70th, just east of Granville. 8)

Great old fashioned fish and chips! Crisp batter, flaky fish and a generous serving of chips. Since moving to Vancouver from Australia I’ve been dying for decent F&c and I found it here. This isn’t the place to go if you’re looking for healthy, grilled fish with a salad on the side. Come here if you want the good stuff! The people who run this store were incredibly friendly and checked up on us a couple of times to see if we were satisfied. As others have mentioned the location isn’t spectacular(you’re pretty much eating in the parking lot), but when I’m enjoying what I’m eating then all I care about is the food in front of me. 4.5 stars.

Full legit old school fish n chips served up on newsprint. Traditional pricing on Fridays at $ 6.95 for a 2 piece order. The folks who own /run /work here are very friendly and comical. This is a tiny shop with only 2 tables inside that are not really meant to sit at, but you can if its not busy. And its always busy(a good thing). There is a small table and a microscopic«patio» out front as well. Overall great food with good prices and friendly honest service. Highly recommended.
