Specialties
Metropolitan Home sells vintage mid-century modern furniture, interesting objects and features art created by local Vancouver artists.
The store has been operating since 1984 so you might say we’ve been around the city for a long period of time. We love to promote Canadian modernism as well as Scandinavian and American modern furnishings. Inside the store you’ll also find items from the Deco period as well as antiques. Mix up your styles for an eclectic look! We believe in mixing up design styles for that timeless style, we call eclectic modern!
Think of mixing up woods too, yes, teak does blend with walnut and rosewood and oak and beech and elm.
The store mostly deals in post war modernism but sometimes some newer pieces hit the floor as good design is fun to mix into the blend.
We do have a request book and will look for what the customer wants and has been searching for.
History
Established in 1984.
The business was started in 1984 by an antiques dealer who decided mid century modern was the way to go.
The store has been selling vintage mid century modernism since then. The store was located in downtown Vancouver until 2010 then moved over to the Armoury District
in Vancouver, close to Granville Island and the Kits neighbourhood.
