Founders Story

Sarah McNeill and Cheryl Nakamoto

Sarah and Cheryl are crazy about positive experiences. Remarkable ones. And the magic of what its like to colour outside the lines. So in 1996, in Vancouver, BC, it all began with these inspirations, and McNeill Nakamoto Recruitment Group was created.

My experience was extremely poor with this recruitment centre. After answering a multitude of questions over the phone I was brought in to meet with one of the recruiters who I found out had no knowledge of what my job consists of. She also was not familiar with the job I was applying for — she left the room twice to consult with someone else about the details of the position. After that I was contacted to see if they could contact my references then 5 days went by so I followed up. The recruitment coordinator told me she had left me a message, which is impossible since I don’t have voicemail. When I spoke with her she said she couldn’t get a hold of me — how is it that we have got this far in the process and now you can’t get a hold of me?! Anyways, I finally get her on the phone and she tells me she doesn’t feel right submitting my résumé since I have vacation booked in 6 months. Why wasn’t this something that was discussed in the first conversation? And wouldn’t that decision really be left up to the company that I would end up working for? I was told to contact them again when I return from my vacation… In October! What a joke. I’ve never had such a run around, I found them to be extremely unprofessional and slightly callous.
There are much better proactive centres out there!

This recruitment agency is pretty much like all the others.
I’m sure they do a fantastic job finding the right people for employers. I get it. That’s their job.
It’s dealing with candidates that don’t make the cut, however, where they fall short. They’ll call a candidate if his/​her profile matches an open position and are very professional and helpful when interviewing him/​her. But upon determining that the candidate is not the right fit, the professionalism goes out the window. Promises to call back are not made and return e-​mails not sent. This has been my experience on the two occasions that I dealt with them.
If company personnel are reading this: unsuccessful candidates appreciate updates. You know that. Three minutes out of your day to update him/​her would be nice. Selfishly ignoring a candidate to chase a lead (yeah, I get it, it’s your job and you probably work on a commission) is unprofessional.

Very impressed from the beginning — I had sent one of their recruiters my resume for some temp roles they had posted on their website. I did update my profile but thought I’d be proactive and just send them an email as well. After 20 mins or so I get a call from them — going over my experience and resume.
Had an interview set up for the next day! I’ll update this more as I’ll see what kind of roles I get with them. :) I highly recommend signing up with McNak group — they know what customer service is about!

I did end up getting a great job on my own, and I can say that McNeill Nakamoto Recruitment had no part in it. They have a limited selection of jobs and a small network. You’re better off contacting the organizations you are interested in working for and asking for any job opportunities they might have. In the job search industry, employers would rather hire a good job candidate WITHOUT agency attachment.

McNeill Nakamoto has been absolutely amazing– or should I say Bradley has been absolutely amazing! Bradley took the time to meet with me, fully understand what I was looking for in a career, and was very accomodating. Even when times got rough and job positions became sparce– Bradley would follow up to see how I was doing and helped me through my frustration. I had done about 2 temporary assignments for McNeill when he placed me with my current job. I am a permanent employee with this company and am extremely happy. Bradley has a great talent for matching up personalities to a perfect work environment and really takes the time to hear you out. I *heart* McNak!!!

I have been thoroughly satisfied with my experience with McNeil Nakamoto. I first contacted McNak two years ago, and am very happy that I did so. Bradley is absolutely lovely, and always very helpful and easy to talk to. He’s very accommodating, even when I provide complicated availability schedules for him to navigate!
I have been very impressed with the temporary positions that I have received, as well. When I initially contacted McNak, I honestly did not expect to receive assignments of this quality, all of which I have really enjoyed. Many have been of longer duration that I expected, as well — my assignments have varied from a day to several months.
I would not hesitate to highly recommend Bradley and the rest of the McNak team to anyone seeking temporary work assignments.

Upon returning to Vancouver from overseas, I contacted McNak as the first recruitment agency. I was impressed by their professionalism, friendly approach & efficiency as they were able to find me a placement in a span of 2 days after our meeting. I had referred a friend who had also received a similar recruitment experience and I will continue to refer McNak as the first choice for Vancouver recruitment agency. Overall, my recruitment experience with McNak has been nothing short but the best.

McNak is definitely the best recruitment experience I have had across the three continents I have worked in. Friendly, straightforward and effective advice takes the stress out of the job hunt.
I recently returned to Vancouver after working overseas and was referred to McNak by a friend. After sending my resume via email I received a call from Bradley within a few hours and we set up a meeting.
The office is centrally located downtown and made easy to find by the map I was sent. During my meeting with Bradley I felt he really listened to what I was after and tried to explore and understand my specific skills. We discussed various job scenarios I have experienced and what I enjoyed and didn’t enjoy about previous roles, as well as what roles I would like ideally. Bradley was extremely personable and honest. His feedback was constructive and very helpful. I was also introduced to other members of the team. They all seemed so keen and positive regarding prospects and possibilities and I left feeling very optimistic about the opportunities ahead.
I highly recommend this business as they are effective, offering me work two days after meeting, very friendly and honest.
I have already referred one friend and will continue to do so. The benefits of working with a smaller, more personable recruitment firm are apparent in the confidence you feel leaving their office.
I don’t hesitate in giving 5 stars to McNak!
