This company is a joke… prepare to be tooled around doing TERRIBLE jobs for a group of «agents» who really couldn’t CARE about how the job went or not.
My few years with Manpower has been nothing but awful. The jobs get marketed to you as manageable with a clear description of expected duties but in the end they are rarely just as they are listed.
Ex.) (Cleaning work at Petsmart — wiping shelves and rearranging product on the shelves) is actually an 8 hour shift of an overnight overhaul of the entire retail arrangement of the store. Taking down entire shelving units, heavy lifting, massive amounts of manual labor and completely different than you have otherwise been told the job would be.
Another job I took was with a cruise company (one of their beloved clients) where we were told that we would be calling a list of known clients to invite them to an event. This was a joke… The event was a marketing ploy to sell cruises and the list of people was not composed of clients but of poor unfortunate souls who had entered a win a free cruise contest ONCE IN THEIR LIVES. I spent 4 days getting yelled at by people and asked why I had their number. (doesn’t sound like a client list to me)
Upon me telling Manpower, specifically Serena (a real See You Next Tuesday), about how I was unhappy with the job, she promptly told me she didn’t care. That I just needed to finish the work because they could not get a replacement. I explained the abusive clients and said I didn’t want to go back to that company. Serena, didn’t care. Oh well, suck it up little minion.
I called back today to ask about work to find our from my dear pal Serena, that she had marked my file with a black mark stating I did not want to work for Manpower anymore… Um…no…dear girl. That would be you I didn’t want to deal with anymore.
DO NO WASTE YOUR PRECIOUS TIME ON THESE LOSERS. THEY CARE MORE ABOUT THE COMPANIES OFFERING THE WORK AND THE MONEY THAT THEY DO ABOUT THE PEOPLE DOING THE WORK.
YOU WILL BE PLACED IN POSITIONS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT THAN THEY ARE MARKETED TO YOU. AVOID AVOID.

Nothing I can say that hasn’t already been said before. Back when I was looking for a job they wasted my time claiming that a company was searching for employees when really they wanted my resume and to waste my time for their personal files. This was back in 2010. There was no job and there was no company looking for hire. Fast forward to a few weeks ago when my neice approached me to assist her with her job search. She answered an ad on craigslist with the classic «our client», the same trick as other recruiters. I have carbon copy reivews of this for other agencies ’cause they’re the same from back in the day as they are now. This isn’t the first agency to treat my neice in a bad way. She went through the same heartbreaking experience. She is fresh out of high school, pumped for the job market, worked hard on her resume only to have the «agent» on the other end give her false hope and promises. She talked to 4 agencies, all the same story. Agencies need to shove it and real companies need to not be lazy and really do their own employment searching to ensure that they get the right candidate for the right job.

This company has got to be the most incompetent company on the planet. The level of sheer stupidity in their «agents» makes me question the planet and how people like this survive successfully on it. My guess is pencil skirts and blonde hair.
It’s unfortunate because unless you’re a business owner hiring them, you have no way of avoiding them if a business has chosen them to be their employment agency. Maybe this could be a red flag for the company you may ultimately be hired for, because in this case Shaw are fully aware of Manpower’s dangerous mistakes and does nothing about it.
My experience with them was this:
I applied for Shaw. My interview was initially with Manpower, and some guy who isn’t there anymore interviewed me. Upon asking for my ID, he told me that it looked fake and wasn’t sure if it would be acceptable. Um, what? It’s a government issued Newfoundland driver’s license and passport.
During the interview I was honest with him about what I ultimately wanted to do with my life when asked those silly «where do you see yourself in 5 years?» Etc questions. I’m not one to bullshit and as such I’m not going to pretend like I know if I don’t. I didn’t then, and I don’t know. My success with a company cannot be determined before I even get interviewed by it. He would repeatedly ask me if I thought Shaw would hire me if I answered those questions in that manner. I advised him that if Shaw was looking for people who are willing to fake themselves through their interviews, then I was not a good fit for them anyway.
Moving on. He sets my interview up with Shaw despite telling me he doesn’t think they’ll hire me. I go to my Shaw interview, but they have no record of it. Doesn’t know who the guy at Manpower was, didn’t have my resume, didn’t even have anyone that usually interviews there. I show them my email from this guy confirming my appointment and after an hour and 15 minutes of waiting and watching Shaw employees running around looking for someone, I get my interview. I nailed it, and I knew I’d be hired.
The next week Manpower calls me to tell me I was not hired. I was floored, asked for an explanation, and they could not offer one. I ask for them to look into it and call me back. I get another call two days later saying they had reevaluated things and that now I am hired. Strange, right?
When I started at Shaw I inquired about this because I found it very strange. They had no idea what Manpower was talking about and I was an immediate YES after my interview. Cool. How many other people has this happened to? If I hadn’t demaned an explanation, I’d never have gotten the job I actually was offered.
I kept hearing of other fuck ups that they’ve done, such as losing my coworkers identification twice and were requesting it a third time. Excuse me? You’re losing people’s passport information, social insurance number, driver’s license, etc? What!!!
They’d sent me other people’s invitations to interviews, time corrections, and when my friend got an interview the other day he had to ask in three emails for the address to the agency because they kept ignoring or forgetting to tell him.
I’d let this all go until yesterday I had enough. I received an email from one of their agents and it was someone else’s resume, someone else’s interview answers and evaluation, and someone else’s invitation to an interview at Shaw. In fact, I will post the screen shot to show you. My interview with them was in November, how does that even happen?
