Cute little restaurant on main St. I loved the chicken kebab wrap! If you’re close by you should check it out

Thought I would give this hole in the wall a chance after quick glance at some of the previous reviews. When i arrived, i learned that the business is called Polo kebab hut so management has changed. When i first stepped in I did not have a good feeling. The restaurant looked dirty, lifeless and the food in the display fridge seemed as if they had been there for ages. Nervously I did order the chicken kebab with naan for around 12 dollars. I was suprised that the naan was made fresh so pleased with that. The Kebab had strong flavour but I feel it was overpowering. It was dry and it came with this weird green runny sauce… soon after eating I got bad stomach cramps. Stay clear from here…

Read reviews by fellow Unilocalers and stopped by this little place. The place is really small(as noted by others), so we decided to do takeout. We ordered chicken and beef kebabs, butter chicken and biryani. Ambience: The tables were not clean, there were used napkins left on pretty much all four tables. They have an open kitchen which was really messy. Food: The lady made us try some biryani before we ordered it. It tasted good. However, when we reach home and open the biryani and butter chicken, there were hardly any pieces of meat in it. Infact, the biryani didn’t have any meat just potatoes! Butter chicken was very watery and had way too much of oil in it. The kebabs were also a huge disappointment. They were dry and the chutney that came with it… well was more like green water. I was really disappointed with this place. We even got a bad stomach ache after eating the food. Not going back here.

I highly recommend this place for their wraps! Just had my first one and it made all other donairs and shawarmas look like cheap fast food(not that I care so much, I like fast food). But the quality here is really a cut above most places I’ve tried. The biggest difference is the wrap itself. It’s a beautiful piece of fresh naan, made from scratch. This is very significant to me because I’ve never liked the store packaged pitas that they serve at other places. I had the lamb and it was excellent. I’m not even a lamb person. They ran out of chicken so it was actually a secondary option but I greatly enjoyed it. I also ordered chicken shish on rice. Good but not as impressive. The chicken is cooked well and tasty although nothing special. I was definitely more impressed with the wrap. As far as ambiance goes, probably not a place you would want to eat in. Not good for dates. Great for takeout wraps!

There’s bad news for kebob lovers. Going by my last experience, this place is no longer what it used to be. Main Kabob hut was never a fancy looking place. It was the hole-in-the-wall small restaurant one visited to get their kabob cravings fixed. The service is dismal, no one offers you water till you ask for it, and you are handed a jug and two glasses thereafter. The interiors are ones fitting that of a hole in a wall place. But the kabobs never disappointed. This time when we went back, nothing had apparently changed, but the lamb kabob we ordered was waaaay disappointing. Firstly, the meat did not taste fresh, and it left a weird flavor in your mouth. It did not help when I saw the lady at the counter micro wave food before bringing it out to serve to the customers. :( I really want to believe that this was a one time bad experience. The fact that the place has recently been sold to new owners+managers, and is now called«Polo Kabob Hut» possibly means that the new place should be given some more time to settle in a groove before passing a judgement on it. I’d keep an eye on the Unilocal page, and might visit again before finally making my mind. P.S: They have added some Mediterranean food to the menu recently.

This place is a hidden gem. I’ve been eating here for years and the only reason I haven’t posted anything is because I’ve been trying to keep this little treasure trove all to my self. I’ve had 90% of the stuff on the menu, it’s all super good but my favorite is the mouth watering lamb kabobs and the flavor packed butter chicken. The butter chicken is seriously a mini orgasm in your mouth. Portion size is good, got a bunch of rice and a bunch of bread with it, plus that awesome green mint sauce. That meal was only $ 11.99. I highly recommend for any body looking for some good Indian/middle eastern food.

Took 4 phone calls to finally get through. New ownership and it appears they do not have their house in order. Placed an order over the phone and went to pick it up, but the person who took my order said he forgot to put it in as he had 3 other orders that came in at the same time. In any case, I decided to wait and pick up my order, but it would be the final time that I will give them my business. Just don’t know how you can be so passé about your customers.

Now, I’ve never been a fan of Mughlai cuisine. I’ve had a great deal of it in India and if given the choice would always prefer to eat the more tropical Indian cuisines instead. BUT, I understand Mughlai flavours. I understand how they should be and how good they can be if they’re done right. Not a single place in all of downtown Vancouver or the entirety of Surrey(frequently touted as the best place for Indian food — sure if you’ve never been to India) has any good, authentic Mughlai food at all. And excepting one favourite spot(South Indian) in Vancouver, not any one other good Indian cuisine either. Therefore, you can imagine my surprise when I accidentally stumbled upon this place. The atmosphere is Dhaba-esque. There is not much variety in the food at all and they offer perhaps 10 dishes — all simple, classic and distinctly Muslim North Indian. The people working there, friendly, pleasant but clearly Canadian, would never make you feel like you are in India,(or perhaps I should say Pakistan since the food is clearly more Pakistani than Indian). Judging by similar experiences in Indo-Canadian restaurants, I really wasn’t expecting to like this at all. Then we were served our meals. Chicken tikka(one of my least favourite dishes) is what I was forced to order as the kababs were unavailable and my bf got biryani. Perhaps I would still never ever order chicken tikka in Canada again EXCEPT at this place because it really was that good! It was truly authentic. As authentic as it might be in a REAL dhaba in north India. The flavours were properly executed, just like you would find in a real dhaba, and the chai to top it off was traditionally made and tasted distinctly North Indian(I still prefer East Indian chai but I can appreciate good chai when I taste it). It had none of the nasty powdery watered down taste of 99.9% of chai I’ve had in British Columbia. Overall I’m incredibly impressed and I will not hesitate to say that this is the best Mughlai food I’ve ever had in Canada. If you’re looking for authenticity, skip Surrey and go here.

Small place, good for take out not for eat in. Kabab was good, quantity of meat in Biriyani was poor. Price is reasonable, taste is ok. If you live nearby, you can give a try if you like Indian style kabab.

The name of the restaurant is Kebab Hut, but don’t let that lead you into thinking that’s the only thing they do well! Possibly one of the best butter chickens I’ve had. It was cooked with just the right amount of spices, the curry was very creamy and buttery, and the chicken-to-curry ratio was on point. It comes with either rice or naan bread. But at this price point, it doesn’t cost too much to try both. Total damage done to the wallet was around $ 17 which got me a ton of butter chicken, some large naan breads, a soda, and an absolutely delicious tea to top off the meal(tea afterwards is highly recommended). The dishes are large enough for two to share a decent dinner, or one could be adventurous and attempt it solo; there’s always the option to take-home!

I first heard of this place from a friend who visited from Oregon & she sang it up to heaven. So, my husband and I drove from Seattle to try it out. I had the«paayaa» or beef trotters with the fresh naan & I was amazed at how good it was! The naan was the best I’ve ever had & I’m comparing it to Indian & Irani naans I’ve had in London(the closest to the very best I’ve had was in «Colbeh» in London). The paayaa I cannot even begin to describe! The stewey brothy gravy & the incredibly soft meat melt in your mouth. I squeezed in the slice of lime that came with it too. It was just as good as the Payaa I’ve had at the homes of Muslim friends at Bakr Id in India, only that was goat meat. My vegetarian husband had the«baingan ka bharta» & it was delicious. The ambience is nothing to write home about — it is a hole in the wall. The service is friendly & warm — a sea change from Seattle. The place is frequented by loud & very colorful Pakistanis. If you understand Punjabi & cannot abide frequent cussing while eating, do a take-away. I would come back here in a heartbeat!!!

Classic hole in the wall. The location is so obscure and hidden but worth looking for. Their goat biryani is amazing. The goat and lamb kabobs are the best I have had in the mainland. Cannot beat the price as dishes were less than $ 10 each. Finished meal with chai tea.

The Best home cooked Pakistani and Indian fishes in town. I’ve tried every expensive, cheap and mediocre Indian/Pakistani restaurant and this comes most closest to the authentic cuisine. Keep in mind, this is not a place where you can expect to take a group of people. It’s the quality of their food that makes it a fantastic place. The establishment itself is more of a college students eating place since its so economical as well. It’s a place where you order a whole bunch of extremely fresh well prepared high quality dishes to go! Food is freshly prepared, and what sets them apart is the cleanliness of the food, and the perfect use of oil in their dishes, which is very minimal. I’ve been to many restaurants in Vancouver, the curries are drenched in oil. That’s not how it’s supposed to be. So next time, tell them to prepare you a couple of Karaahi dishes w chicken or lamb or goat meat, and get some Chicken seeekh kebabs. You will be tasteBud-mind-blown. Mmmmm…

This definitely is a hole in the wall and at first impression was rather um… unimpressive. But if you can get pass this, the food is fabulous. There were 5 of us and ordered the lamb wraps, biryani(sp?), buttered chicken and veggie pakora. Very authentic spices. We even ordered a container of the marsala sauce to take home so I can add the chicken later. The owner(or I think he was the owners) was very friendly, and good service for a tiny place. We will be back next time we are in town. Prices were reasonable.

Really good kabab rolls. Enjoyed the visit and will return again. Spice is genuine Pakistani/Indian spice, meaning ‘medium’ is ‘very spicy’ by Canadian standards. I loved that. It is a hole-in-the-wall but man it is good. Cheap too!

Pretty gritty décor and not very polished to say the least. However, this is not the kind of place you go to for a spic & span environment. Think of it like you would a good wonton place or greasy spoon. In that context, I recommend it. The kebabs are delicious and authentic. The service is polite and kind.

Not worried about that inspection report. Heck, that’s when it’s the most cleanest b/c they have to get their act together in order to be inspected and pass, so then they can open again lol. Extra star for their own 1-table patio, no patios exist in this 1 block radius. 3 parking stalls by the alley. simple décor inside, more of a takeout place. 3 tables. known for their butter chicken. Also serve Pakistini food too.

The most delicious naan I’ve ever had: chewy, stretchy, and full of aroma … even my parents were impressed(and it’s hard to impress them). We got the lamb & goat curry to-go, with emphasis on extra-mild because I’m a weak sauce. It made me smile to see the friendly staff take out their pots & pans and make everything on the spot for us. The meat is incredibly flavourful, tender, and fresh, albeit cooked with too much oil. That can be easily remedied though by picking the meat pieces out of the curry. I imagine the kabobs would be less greasy, will certainly go back and try those.
