Spicy tuna roll is awesome but be prepared to bring a blanket or dress warm, the restaurant is very cold and thr owner does not attempt to turn on the heat and claims that it is broken… for the last few months, we noticed portable heaters but were not turned on. Food is decent but the restaurant is dam cold, even the waitress are wearing winter jackets. Also we’ve came across more rude than nice waitresses.

This place is not the fanciest but the food and plate setting is pretty good! The area is hard to see and you’d miss it if you didn’t look for the place. But give it a try, the food is tasty and the place isn’t too busy. Give it a try you will not regret!

One word to describe the service of this business: terrible. Visited today, walked in, the blonde hair server looks angry on us. We were the first and only customers. Did not even say good morning. Also, she threw menu and plate around with anger. We will never coming back again!

My girlfriend found this place and we came here over the weekend to catch up on each other’s lives and of course have some sushi. I have driven by this place a few times on the way to my step dad’s but it doesn’t look like much from the outside. I got my avocado roll and I went a little outside the box and got a yam tempura roll with cream cheese. Each selection had 8 pcs for $ 3 which was amazingly cheap and filling. The yam roll was a disappointing as I tasted more cream cheese than yam. The avocado roll was good. I did share some Tempura with my girlfriend and it wasn’t battered enough and way too greasy by Tempura standards which was a shame. Service was amazing.

I give it 1 star for value 3 for quality Ordered sockeye salmon don, for takeaway, i opened it up, and i actually laughed… This has got to be the smallest amount of sockeye salmon ive ever gotten when ive ordered this dish at the countless other sushi restaurants scattered across vancouver. Paid $ 12 Im still hungry. Have uploaded pic for ur amusement… It was my first time here, and definately will not be back…

Trying to be different. That’s what this place wants to achieve. I would say that this place is an acceptable local joint. For me, I just feel like they wanted to be different but there are some things that didn’t quite work for me. The menu is priced fair and the menu offers a lot of variety. In the appetiser section, there was a spicy beef taco priced at $ 2.50. That’s pretty cute… a pun off the word ‘tako’(octopus). But wait… its…actually a legit beef taco. Why is there a Mexican option in a Japanese restaurant? I don’t really care, but now I wanted to order it. But sadly, they didn’t offer it that day(or maybe they stopped making them?). So now, this place has thrown off my sushi/taco eating mood. Now I’m just upset. I ordered some salmon sashimi, a pork belly don(comes with miso soup), and a lobster roll. Sashimi — good standard raw fish. Nothing bad, just decent and acceptable. Miso soup — dark and cloudy with some green onions. Nothing different here, just solid miso soup. The pork don — has a spicy sauce(I think it’s sirracha), thinly sliced seared pork belly, oshinko, edamame and potato salad in the bowl. The pork was delicious. It was a little crispy and had light sweetness to it. The edamame was a nice touch. The oshinko offered some variation with every bite. The spicy sauce gave the bowl of rice more depth and kick. And the potato salad… was a potato salad. Why is it in there? I dont really get it. Maybe it’s not potato salad, but it sure did taste like potato salad. Someone verify this for me… I’m pretty sure its potato salad. I think maybe you should mix everything around — maybe that helps. Overall, it was an acceptable dish. The lobster roll — it was tempura battered lobster with avacado and asparagus. There wasn’t a lot of lobster. But, I get it, its kind of a pricey thing to offer at $ 10 for the roll. The rice was a little dry… I’d never order it again, but the other rolls looked really good. By the end, I want to give this place 2 stars. But I’ll stick with 3. They seemingly want to be a little different but they felt more like anomalies than anything else. The beef taco would have been nice to try. It would have been nice to see how they execute a ‘Japanese style’ beef taco. I want to think that having potato salad in my pork rice dish was to make me challenge what conventional Japanese cuisine could be. Or maybe how I should rethink what a potato and bacon dish could be. Or just how a potato and pork interact on the palate. Instead, all I can talk about is, why was there potato salad in my Japanese food? Despite how I feel, I would return to see what else they can do. Just because one dish didn’t work for me, shouldn’t mean they should stop trying.

I have heard good things about this place, so I decided to try it out with my parents for a simple lunch. We got the grilled saba, the donburi combo and a tonkatsu. Overall, I would say that the food was disappointing. Most of the fried stuff had a lot of tough batter, and were a little on the dry side. The rice is also harder than we are used to. This may be because we walked in just after they are opened on a Saturday morning, perhaps their dinner offerings are better.

A decent, Japanese restaurant in the Renfrew-Collingwood Area. First visit: I got myself albacore tuna hosomaki, dynamite roll, and two pieces of tamago nigiri. The tamago was soft and tasted like any other omelette. The albacore tuna tasted pretty good. The dynamite rolls were a bit big but still fit in my mouth. Service was mostly fast and friendly. Second visit took a little downturn. I ordered rainbow roll, three sockeye salmon nigiri pieces, and some more albacore tuna. Ended up waiting extremely longer than usual for the items. Was starting to lose my patience but it arrived before I even asked about the hold up. The wait strangely paid off, though. Enjoyed every bit of morsel. Friendly but slow service. I’ll come back to this place if I’m not time-constrained.

We’ve been here a few times since we moved to the neighbourhood and found it to be a decent Japanese restaurant with reasonable prices. But tonight was awful – the service was incredibly slow and we ended up waiting about an hour for a simple order of a few rolls and some nigiri. Meanwhile, takeout orders were being filled and people were just walking in to pick up their orders. Even when we complained about the wait, we still had to wait another 30 minutes before we got our food. Totally unacceptable. No offer of a discount, just a feeble offer of a free bowl of ice cream which we declined. Won’t be back after this.

An easy five stars to give! Kimura has delicious freshly made food, quick polite service, and a solid selection of Japanese classics alongside modern twists. Spicy chicken katsu combo(katsu, rice, salad, 2 prawn tempura, and roll) was massive and delicious. Spring salad had a great variety of veggies, katsu was perfectly fried with a spicy gochujang sauce, and spicy tuna roll had lots of tuna. Perfect amount to share between two people. We also tried the fish & chips cone and that was a great little appetizer for $ 0.99 each! After the katsu combo(~$ 13), two cones, a Philly tempura roll, and a beer, our bill came to roughly $ 26. Great price for the amount of food we got. Will definitely visit more often!

Lots of food, but… Hubby and I ordered omakase. I think something like 7 courses of the most random omakase we’ve ever had(and we’ve had a lot, all over the world). This is more a korean version of omakaze. We got main courses sprinkled with just a a couple of sushi and one roll to share. Also, we started getting our food after 4 – 5 tables who arrived after us were served their food. Didn’t make sense at all. Oh, now I remember, they were waiting for the first course which was some kind of baked cheesy thing. Draw your own conclusions as to the authenticity of the omakase and what ensued. Still giving it three stars because the food was pretty good(just defied all reasonable expectations), waitresses were nice(although the kitchen was crazy slow), and seating was prompt.

Okay this is the first time I’m writing a Unilocal review only because I’ve been so thoroughly disgusted by the food I just attempted to eat at the NEW Kimura this evening. Before the current ownership my wife and I used to love chef Kimuras creativeness, style, flavor, artistry and authenticity. These guys should not be allowed to even use his name on the sign anymore! –First the Gyoza arrived at my table not only overly deep-fried but burnt almost black. –Then this gigantic bowl of mushy Udon noodles in barely salted broth arrived which could’ve doubled as their dishwater. –My wife tried the real crab Japanese salad which turned out to just be spring mix leaves dumped out of a plastic container you can buy at Safeway, with a little bit of crab mixed with mayo in dollops on top. –Realizing from a few items on the menu that the people in the kitchen must be Korean, I also ordered the beef short ribs which Koreans have notoriously prepared quite well. Well these too were a disappointment. They were bland, greasy, and had obviously been fried not hot enough on a flat top griddle instead of a barbecue grill. –The only items that we ate were the few fancy rolls which weren’t really very fancy or very great, I’ve had far better at a mall food court! If you were going to Kimura’s restaurant because you read great reviews, they are all from a different era, or from the odd person who has no taste or pallet or discerning opinion. Don’t waste your money. We are never going back!

This is now my go to sushi. I love the Aburi roll which has all my favorites. And the prices are decent and comparable to most places. I still think the sashimi is cut on the thin side. And do not order the agadashi tofu. It’s a messy goop. I like all the other rolls and there made well. The service is not always the best, as they never come around to refill tea or water. The place isn’t that big but it’s good enough. And open 7 days a week always satisfies the growling tummy. My kids like it so it’s a plus and we all leave full and happy.

Hands down the best Sushi in Vancouver. I am a horribly picky vegetarian sushi eater and often get filled with rage at the lack of good vegetarian sushi — there’s more to life than just chicken and avocado! Kimura sushi is a little out of the city but if you’re living east-van lyf it’s worth the walk/bus trip. All of the rolls were prepared fresh, the sake was delicious and the staff were all charming and handsome. We had this little crumbed/fried egg special and it blew my mind. I don’t remember what it was called as the staff surprised us with it. Delightful. Life-affirming deliciousness.

You know those sushi places that 30 minutes after you eat there, you have to urgently sprint to the washroom? Well this is definitely NOT one of those places. This is the second time I’ve been here in about 2 years and both times I quite enjoyed it. The food is very good quality and it’s reasonably priced. If you give them 1 day’s notice, you can do Omakase for either $ 30, $ 40, or $ 50! DEAL! The standouts yesterday were sockeye salmon sashimi, toro sashimi, and one of their specials, Chef Joon’s Aburi roll(see picture) but everything we had was delicious. 4 adults, lots of food(no booze) came to $ 100 plus tip and we were stuffed. I think I have to go back before 2 years.

Great little Japanese place at Rupert and 22nd. Ingredients are fresh, tasteful and the special chef’s creations/specials are really good. My wife and I go here on occasion as they are pretty close to where we live and they never disappoint.

Came here with family and had a great meal. The décor is modern and overall very clean. Very family friendly. The staff was very friendly and provided great service! We arrived around 6pm on a Saturday night and was surprised that the restaurant was fairly empty. When we left an hour later, the restaurant was starting to fill up. Our sockeye salmon sashimi was fresh and delicious and the tempura sushi combo was very filling. For family with young children: they had booster seats and high chairs, and provided children bowls and plates. Tables generally included a combination of bench seating and chairs. Prices are moderate, so this probably wouldn’t be a regular hangout for the family but definitely a nice treat once in a while!

Based on my experience, I barely find a good Japanese restaurant in East side. I saw many great reviews of Kimura and run by Japanese chef. I just gave it a try. We went there on Friday noon and wasn’t busy at all. The service was good and the waitress was so friendly and attentive. We got a complimentary cone(potato chips and salmon skin) after they served us tea. Sound like good start? Hmm… the cone was mediocre and below average in my taste. Hamachi sashimi — Yellowtail just defrosted and taste not fresh at all. Mango salsa roll — real crab meat roll and topping of artificial mango sauce. Chopping scallop cone — It’s ok and nothing stood out! The menu items are quite limited and prices are pretty steep(3 items charged over $ 30 + tax + tips). I definitely willing to pay more for quality food or in an upscale restaurant but it doesn’t seem appropriate for this location.

Literally the best sushi place I have ever been to from beginning to end. From the on-the-house sushi cones to the cola flavoured after-dinner candys this place ranks the top. I love sushi and frequent many over the course of my week but this place is the first that warranted a review. Everyone needs to come here if they love sushi. Their rolls are handcrafted with each one coming out looking better than the last. Amazing! New favorite restaurant. I want to have my birthday here and invite all my friends.

For the area, it may be DT pricing but Kimura’s a nice place, something proud to have this I would think, without driving to DT. Not your typical authentic décor, even artsy in a way; like the bench cushion seating along the walls. Sushi bar seating available too. Recommend their house special ‘Joon’s roll’, salmon tempura w/all the works, even with a chewy texture. For $ 10, at least it came w/8 pcs lol. Even the cali roll is better than most. But the tastiest is this cone that they gave complimentary, which apparently they offer for everyone – and i thought i was special lol. It’s stuffed w/a really good-tasting mayo, w/garlic chips, scallops… wow, that was the highlight… For guys, be careful using the washroom, they’ve got this shelf that’s almost same height as your shoulder right where you stand… Free parking in front & on the sides. Accept debit/credit. Friendly service, gave both cold & hot water plus tea too.
