Jade Electrolysis

I have had electrolysis done in the past many years ago by someone really good, and got great results. Unfortunately that business closed, and I tried 2 other electrolysis providers after that, getting no results at all, so I sort of forgot about the idea of doing this … until I received a recommendation to try out Jade. Purchased a Groupon, gave them a try, and have had 3 sessions now with very good results. Years later, I have found an experienced and effective electrolysis provider. This is the only service they provide, so this is their area of specialty and expertise. I have been seeing Janine, but I am sure the others are good too as I believe everyone is trained by the owners of this family run business with several locations.
The business is pricy, but effective, therefore, for the most part, you are getting what you pay for. If you are getting a service for 60+ minutes, then it is generally reasonable. However, service under 60 mins is simply too expensive. There is a small fixed cost to the appt (disposable needle), but their under one hour prices inflate this in my opinion. This makes it hard to do the 2 week recommended intervals.

This was the first time I’ve tried electrolysis so I wasn’t sure what to expect from it. I had Emeilie who was nice and confident. On the first visit I mentioned to her that I was hoping to get pregnant, and she reassured me that we can still do electrolysis safely while pregnant and it’s common and they use the «flash» method all the time, but on my second visit when I informed her I was indeed pregnant, it seemed like she was a bit off guard and unsure of what to do, and that she never has to use «flash».
My main reason for giving it 2 stars though is that from what I’ve read of electrolysis, you’re not supposed to feel the needle being inserted, and I did indeed feel the needle being inserted. I’m not sure if this is the reason, but I am left with scarring over a month later, and from other reviews here it seems like scarring is somewhat of a common problem.
Another reason I gave just 2 stars is that I repeatedly asked to just focus on the dark thick hairs and the technician would still spend almost an hour for just chin and upper lip. I’m now going to a different electrolysis place and they take 10 – 15 minutes tops. I don’t know if it’s the method Jade uses, or the technician, or the time they spend, but I have had no scarring with my new electrolysis provider.

Service is okay. They get the job done. Is it amazing? No. My underarms still have pitted scarring one year later and they won’t even offer complimentary «touch-​ups» despite saying on their website that «Body areas are completed within 8 clearings or your treatments are FREE*.» — WHICH BTW is not true because it took mine 11 solid treatments plus a few touch ups (up to this day). I know they will say it depends on your situation but that’s BS. You shouldn’t say stuff like that if you can’t follow through. That «guarantee» just annoys me to bits.
I emailed the contact on their website about a year ago. No response. That doesn’t feel right to me.
Price is seriously WAY too high for the service + TIP. I find that the technician doesn’t really make great use of her time because she would focus on one area for the ENTIRE booking which ends up wasting Emla/​Dr. Numb that I’ve put in other areas. I wish she would have focused on thicker, darker hairs first. I did tell her my preference because it’s better than having one upper lip side super clear and not the other, which she obliged to, but went back again to doing it her way. Frustrating.
I hate the tip function. I am already paying so much. Don’t really feel the need to tip (but still do anyways) While I was waiting for my appointment, the technicians were even talking about how one customer wasn’t tipping and made negative comments about it. Not nice.
Even though I’m still a customer (for almost 3 years now), I never felt that they cared about me genuinely. The corporate greed is too strong in my opinion. My gut says not to keep feeding it so I am looking for other places.
You can try Jade if you lots of money. If you don’t, you might be better off trying other places that does the same job but for half the price.

I see this as an investment. I’ve tried laser before, but the results were temporary at best. Electrolysis is taking longer– and therefore pricier– than expected, but I’m hoping that I won’t have to deal with unwanted hair at the end of it all.
For the most part the staff here are professional and courteous. I’ve had only one really negative experience where I and another client had to wait outside of their Broadway location with our freezing (picture Saran Wrap face masks) for nearly an hour and 30 minutes respectively as no one was inside. But aside from that, I would recommend Janine and Jennifer who have been in this business for years.

I got electrolysis done by both the owner and her daughter. I spent well over $ 1000 here.
It was excruciatingly painful, and in the end was left with permanent raised scars that haven’t gone away (its been a few years).
It’s a beautiful and clean environment and they are very nice, so that’s why i feel bad expressing my true opinion.
At first they make it really seem as though 2 or 3 sessions is all it will take. I did 3 very long sessions and it was only half effective. I think it could have worked fully if i went more but
the costs of that would have been exhuberant.
Quite honestly, I have also done laser and that was cheaper and more effective.

I have had multiple electrolysis treatments without ill effects previously. However, when I visited one of the Jade electrolysis locations in the past year I was treated by an inexperienced and awkward operator. The result was a number of permanent pock marks on the right side of my face. Fortunately she was extremely slow, which limited the damage. When I later talked to management about this, rather than an apology, I heard «everyone needs to learn»! I had not intended to be a training subject when I went there. To say that I was very disappointed that this company would not do better to insure my safety would be an understatement.

I used to get treatment done from a previous worker and she was awesome!!! She no longer works here so I tried out a few of the other girls and many seem inexperienced. They offer cheaper rates for girls who are training however it’s still damn expensive. Go for consultations at other electrolysis places as their machines are the same as the ones used at Jade. Not worth the extra $ anymore in my opinion.

Awesome! Super clean, you can watch TV while they work on you, and the best results I’ve seen. I’ve seen way more hair reduction after a few sessions than I did going somewhere else for almost a year. Karen is wonderful too, friendly, professional and fast!

I have received an amazing result after only one session. Almost 50% of my hair is gone and the ones left are much thinner. I feel that the result I gained after having one session with them is better than the result I gained after several laser sessions I had at other places.

Jennifer at Jade contacted me, personally, about my review. She was apologetic that my message re: not being informed about the cost of each shot (I had left my concerns with the receptionist and expected them to get passed along) had not been passed on to her and assured me that would be addressed. She did seem genuinely concerned that client comments were not reaching her. I appreciate that she took the time to address my issues and she even went as far as refunding the cost of the shots (not the cost of the electrolysis).
I still have hyperpigmentation where I had the treatment due to the high heat that was used (it’s been about 4 weeks now) and the trauma from the numbing shots. I would recommend to clients with more sensitive skin to only use Emla and not use the shots since they do cause quite a bit of trauma. I’ll post whether the discoloration clears up in the next couple of months.
Obviously, I still wouldn’t go back because my first impression/​experience was so negative, however, I do appreciate the attention to this matter.

The technician assured me that all redness and swelling would go away by the next morning, but it stayed for a week. I am left with horrible red scars all over the treated area that have not gone away months after the treatment. As, in Canada, electrolysis may be practiced without any training or diploma, I would strongly urge you to do your research and ensure the technician is certified. I hope no one else has to experience this.

I am SO glad I did it! I cleared my bikini line about 5 years ago now and I thank goodness I did it every time I go to put on a bathing suit. I’m still totally hair free.
I was treated by Jennifer and she was great about educating me about the process (how she can guarantee permanent hair removal) and she also gave me treatment options. She offered me the «madajet» (sp?) freezing to eliminate the pain — it completely numbs the area she is treating so you can’t feel the electrolysis at all. After she gave me a sample with and without the freezing, I was sold on the freezing and no numbing cream was necessary.
She also offered to treat me in long sessions or in a bunch of shorter sessions — she said everyone is different so she gives the options. I appreciated this because I preferred to opt for a longer treatment and get it done.
I was completely cleared in 4 treatments (the first one was 4 hours, the second was 3 hours, the third was 2 hours and the last one was 1 hour… everyone is different based on the amount of hair you have but this was my experience), I haven’t had to go back for a touchup, and I’m completely hair free. I’m pretty happy I didn’t go with laser, as my friends who have done that have regrowth. I don’t have to deal with that! It’s SO worth it!
Be aware that, when treating areas of the body other than the face, you will have a healing process and you will have little marks where the hair was removed but they went away completely and now my skin is like a baby’s bum down there, as if I didn’t have hair to start with! I did also have my eyebrows treated later on and there were no marks or healing — I could go out right after treatment without a problem. Jennifer explained that she uses a different current on the face so that you don’t get marks.
Jennifer is a pro and she trains her people well. Make sure you get a consultation and ask all of your questions and you will be happy with your treatment and your results. There is no where else I’d go for electrolysis!

The receptionist is real piece of work, I would never go back there even though the technicians were really nice.

I had tried every single other method of hair removal before coming to jade, including but not limited to waxing, bleaching, plucking, shaving, threading, laser…
At another Vancouver business for laser — I had 8 treatments of laser on my upper lip and chin. Everything seemed to be moving along and the hair was disappearing. Within a year not only was the hair growing back but thicker, darker and in areas it had never been. Within 2 years I was miserable, caught between a rock (I was naturally growing facial hair) and a hard place (I hated it — is that me talking or social pressures?). Strangers thought I had dirt on my face and if i shaved, I would have shadow by the end of the day.
I could only find limited information on Electrolysis and many websites said if you weren’t careful in picking your electrolysis that you could get scarring on your body 6 months after a visit… of course they didn’t say what to look for which made this that much scarier.
I started out with a very kind and friendly lady but the electrolysis was lengthly and my face had an awful reaction (scabbing, redness, swollen).
I then moved to Jade Electrolysis on Broadway and MacDonald. BEST MOVE I EVER MADE. Family business where everyone is knowledgable and answer your questions honestly. Reception is friendly and soon bookable online. The owner is professional, experienced, and friendly. She has many years of not only practicing but teaching behind her and I trust her with my face! I bought cream (they sell it, easy peazy!) that I apply half an hour before a visit that numbs my face and helps with any pain. Epson salts applied to my face twice as Jade Electrolysis recommends, and I’ve noticed that the puffiness that I used to have in response is getting milder with every visit. I don’t have any scabbing since I made the switch.
My hair is thinner, and barely there now. I am so grateful for Jade Electrolysis and the work they have done for me. Not to mention their optional reminder (for appointments only) calls! I can finally concentrate on other things and not worry about people staring at my face. Hair just wasn’t for me. Thank you Jade!
