Came here in 2013 for a bachelorette party.
They helped all four of us with four staff at the same time.
Efficient. Friendly. Not pretentious. Lots of people can be helped at the same time as there is an abundance of chairs, but book in advance.
My hair stayed «fresh» into the next morning after pre drinks, dinner, strippers, drinking, breakfast…

I came here to fix my hair colour that a previous salon had done (it was so ugly and blonde!) I got recommended to Lyla from my girlfriends that go to her. I came in a month before for a consultation we talked about what I wanted. Than I booked an appoint. a month later.
OOMG she did such a good job! She completely fixed my disgusting damaged blonde hair, she turned me into a beautiful brunette and put great treatment in my hair.
Lyla is sooo beautiful ! She is soooo nice and friendly. We talked the whole time, she was so nice and kept asking if i wanted anything to drink although i had an iced coffee with me!
Everything she was doing to my hair she would explain!
I AM SOOO HAPPY that i found Lyla! I will always be coming back to her.
I also love how the salon carries the best hair products like: KEVIN MURPHY, DAVINES etc.

I have been seeing Erin Moore for a few years now and she is a blonde expert! She does a great job colouring my hair every 7 weeks and keeping it strong and healthy. If you’re a picky blonde looking for someone who knows their stuff, I would definitely recommend going in and speaking with Erin.

I was referred to Malissa by a friend and it was an exceptional referral. I have been looking for the right hair stylist and I think I may have found her. My stylist stopped cutting hair and I have been to many salons after that but I have been very unsatisfied. I told Malissa what I wanted and she guided me in the right way with her professional opinion. I love my new and cut and color. If you want a hair stylist that you can trust and knows what they are doing, go to Malissa at IS. Salon. It is worth your time and money.

Great Salon. Complimentary beverage service added a nice touch. Plenty of metered parking and a short walk to Yaletown Roundhouse sky train station. The color/​bleach formulations are better than most salons out there. My colorist Verenice is a color talent genius with 20+years experience. She brought me up from a natural darkest brown, to a beautiful beige blond color using color foils. The compliments keep coming. I will definitely be back to see Verenice. Excellent work and service! :-)

I was very unhappy with the service I received here. While most of the stylists are relatively friendly, the end product I received and the overall customer service was poor. I have spent thousands of dollars in the past year on having my hair cut and colored here, as well as having weave extensions put in.
For what I have paid, the end result has been rather disappointing. And what really gets me is when more than a few times, I have had an issue with my weave only lasting 3 to 4 weeks as opposed to 4 to 6. My last experience here involved receiving faulty hair. I purchased it from their salon (they order it from another place) for nearly $ 300. Within the second week of having the hair in, it felt like straw. It was dry and frizzy and would no longer style. I took good care of the hair, used salon products only on it, etc. and had to get it redone somewhere else. I went back and showed them it to which they tried to say it must have been me, yet when I got my hair redone by another salon, I never had the same problem and I even paid a LOT less. I gave them back the ratty hair and they said they would call me within a couple days to let me know if the manufacturer would refund it, but they never called. I felt like they did not care enough about their client (especially one who has spent thousands at their salon) so that was it for me. I wanted to give my business to this salon as I did enjoy a couple of the stylists there, but I will never go back there after the poor customer service.

I have been blond, brunette, ombré, harsh jet black, you name it, I’ve tortured my hair through it… as someone who has been to many salons & stylist, is. salon is hands down the most skilled salon I have had the privilege to experience! I HIGHLY recommend the fabulous stylist Jorey Dizon, she not only has the years of experience behind her talent but also has the eye to tell you what works well for your skin tone, face shape, and all over look;) If you haven’t been to is. Salon yet you are truly missing out… not to mention who doesn’t deserve to be pampered with a glass of wine while getting your hair done?!? Great vibe, trendy location, amazing owner, I went from walking in to this salon on a whim to becoming a loyal client, thank you is. Salon for being so lovely!!!:)

I am one of those guys that spends good money on his hair because it has to be done just right and Jaye has always gotten it right for me. I like the fact that Jaye is always attending classes and in the know with the latest hairstyling fashion and techniques and the few times I have had to go to other stylists, I really see the difference in the artistry and technique in her work. I have been going to Jaye way before she joined Is Salon, but now that she works at IS, I look forward even more to seeing her because of the large space, the vibe and the fact that they always offer me coffee, tea, water or wine. All that and the fact that she is a cool person to chat with on a variety of different topics, makes my visits to Is Salon something to look forward to.

Do not go here! U will be highly dissatisfied! I read all the reviews and thought IS SALON was a great choice… Little did I know! After waiting a year to grow out my hair, it is now damaged! I went to is salon with the only request that I don’t like red hair. In the end I got red hair! The hair due job looks like it was done by a student! I now try not to even look at it in the mirror and will be paying big money once again to get it fixed! For $ 225 this was the biggest rip off I ever got! Thanks for nothing!

Came here last week to give it another try I have to say Salvanna is my fav! Will def be back again and they have varieties of hair products to choose from

I love Becky! I have been coming to her for a few years, and every time I come in I leave with exactly what I want but even more awesome! I had been going to Moods before this but my beloved hairstylist moved so I’d been searching — it was a long and tedious search filled with brassy highlights, meh haircuts and wasted dollars.
Whether I come in with a pic of what I want or arrive hungover and rather vague she listens and manages to figure out what I’m looking for and to do it perfectly. It’s also a huge plus that she’s super nice and remembers who you are, what you do etc. so you can have a conversation. But, she doesn’t talk your ear off if you’re trying to read a magazine either, so I can read up on Kanye and Kim without interruptions.
I went in on Saturday and left with the nicest caramel highlights and straightened style, it prompted me to write this long overdue review.

Is. Salon is a fantastic salon in Yaletown and of all the times I’ve been here I’ve left happy. But before I go any further, I just want to note that I’ve only come here to get my hair styled for events (no cuts, no dyes) as I have a hairdresser that has been cutting my hair since I was 12 (I’m 26).
Anyways, I use Silvana and she is VERY good at what she does. People always compliment my hair when I get styled by her and for the price ($ 40~ for styling) it is not bad at all. I use to frequent another «salon» because it was a little cheaper but I couldn’t get over the fact that I’d be craving fresh hair by the end of it because they would use SO much hairspray. And it is sticky too!
Silvana knows when to stop, uses quality products and even gave me a few tips when I’m styling my hair at home. She saved my hair knock life probs.
LOVE the space, prices are little more but you’re paying for quality. and well I guess YT rent as well: p. Great quality products like I’ve mentioned (Kevin Murphy. HOLLA!!) and friendly people. Other stylists I’ve heard great things about are Malissa and Erin as well.
I will say though, after reading some of your experiences with Allison… YIKES!

I walked in hoping to get my hair done spur of the moment with a stylist I had used a red deal with months ago. She wasn’t working so April took me instead. I’m usually spur of the moment/​last minute with making hair appt (to get the best of the best you normal have to book weeks in advance) but April was amazing! My hair colour is brilliant and the cut and style is so fresh! Her service is 5 star as well! I was poured wine and brought the most current magazine. April’s shampoo was so relaxing too. The worst is cold water and hair pulling but not April! I’ve given 4 out of 5 stars only because it was a little expensive for me but worth every pretty penny! Ill be back to see April and finally have found a great stylist!

So since I moved back to Vancouver in November I have been somewhat of a stylist whore. I have been using a lot of the groupon and living social deals to scope out some if the stylists here.
I live in yaletown so I like to try out spots near home. I ended up buying one for this salon and super excited about it! It was one that was for Allison.
Salon itself looked fab… super busy. edgy stylists… I mean who wants a stylist that has shit hair?! It’s like having a trainer whose obese! Represent your craft! But Allison must have been having a bad hair day or just needed to brush her extensions.
Anyhow, my experience wasn’t close to what I was expecting at all. From the get go I felt rushed and just not relaxed. Especially when she was washing my hair, super rough, heavy hands! Definitely not a trait a stylist should have! I usually enjoy this part of getting my hair done… the massage the warm water… relaxation! Sooo far from it!
Next the cut, I showed her pics of how my hair use to look like and thought k. shampooing and massage not your forte… I’m sure cutting skills are… wrong again! Snip here snip there and she was already blow drying my hair! Ummm… was it done already?! After she showed me the back I told her she could have gone. shorter…about three times! She then said that if i wanted to go any shorter she would have to shave it. Ohh hell naw… Awful awful! Clearly with my previous cuts shaving was not part of the game plan. Then she asked if I had ever thought of shaving the one side if my head look… at one point she even suggested how great extensions would look on the sides. I sport a basic inverted bob and no extensions soooo not an option.
Once I got home I asked the husband what he thought, his response «I thought you got a haircut?’ ’nuff said!
Nonetheless, im sure Allison would be a great chic to have a beer with at a bar or something but professional salon etiquette not so much.
I gave the stylist the one star but I could see myself coming back to the salon but just with a different stylist.

Malissa is beyond a hair stylist. She is a hair wizard who creates magic on the daily. I wanted to write a review after a recent horrible experience elsewhere (I wasn’t in Vancity to see Malissa) made me fully realize how much I need her talent in my life. I’ve been seeing her for 4 years and she’s never steered me wrong!!! Love.

I had my haircut with Allison a couple months back, I’m posting this because I STILL SHUDDER when I think of the experience. Like everyone else, I bought the Red Pocket deal. I told Allison that I wanted a layered look, a bit heavier on the top. During my entire haircut, she kept on asking me if I had Christmas parties coming up, if I had any special dates or whatever. When I said no she just kept on pushing, how about New Years parties? Oh I can do birthday hair, wedding hair too! Wedding??? Lady I’m 19! My hair was all over my face, she never once bothered to sweep all the cut hair off my face. I was CONSTANTLY spitting out my own hair, not a pleasant thing to do. What really put me off was that she kept on telling me that I need to brush my hair a certain way, «Don’t fight your hair’s natural groove! See? Your hair LIKES to be swept THIS way!» No. Just. No! I’ve been brushing my hair the same way all my life, my hair never fought with me thank you very much! After my haircut I literally had to go to the washroom and pick out all the little individual hair remains off of my face. Ugh, totally unprofessional. Now, 4 months later, my hair’s grown out, and I realized that she didn’t layer my hair properly. My hair is naturally straight, and she literally took the outside layer and chop it in half. So my head looks like it’s got 2 haircuts at this moment, it’s like a bob with a long tail. I would never go back to Allison again.

I came here because I received a 50% off card to see Sylvana. I decided to get a hair cut as I will be going on mat leave very soon and imagine won’t have time later on… When I was greeted by Sylvana, she was super friendly and actually quite hilarious. We chatted the entire time and she kept me entertained. The wash was good, I always love a good head massage… She then went to town on my hair, chop chop, cut cut, about an inch or so… then she styled it and I had fabulously bouncy hair.
I will definitely see Sylvana again. She’s great.

Very pricey salon. You are mostly paying for the Yaletown location. I paid $ 155 (w tax & tips) for a basic color & basic trim when I needed a proper haircut. Both service & result were nothing extraordinary or «above & beyond».
My hair tends to be pretty thick and the hairdresser did not address this when I asked her to. She merely put a ton of products to make look thinner without actually making it thinner.
Definitely not worth the money!

I moved to the lover mainland 7 years ago. Finding a new hairstyles, was very difficult. I’ve tried some of my friends recommendations, some were OK, some were too expensive, some were just plain BAD. Nobody I fell inlove with! Before moving to the lower mainland, I went to the same person for 10 years and she was fabulous, I only trusted her with my hair. But since my visit back home to Winnipeg was only once or twice a year, my hair was starting to need some love. I realized with all this rain my hair needed more frequent love.
Thank goodness for people who write reviews! I started google salons (I Know, CRAZY RIGHT!!) I was desperate what can I say. And I kept reading about this girl (Malissa) who spells her name with an «A». So I took my chance and booked an appointment.
I loved my first cut and colour with her, and I had so many complements! To me what makes a really good haircut and colour is how is grows out… I loved it even more. my hair kept growing into different styles I just loved it. She also gives free bang trimming which I took advantage of. I also found her pricing very reasonable. and not too pushy with products.
The salon it self it great and big lots of stylist, great products.

Malissa disappeared from Bangtown and I was sad! But hooray we had found one another again at Is. Salon in Yaletown.
So, Yaletown may not be my regular haunt, but her prices are the same and this modern salon was friendly and welcoming. Don’t be afraid, its not too fancy-​shmancy!
But really, this review is for Malissa. She is an amazing stylist because she listens, is thorough and actually cares about you leaving with a result that you are happy with that also looks good.
She really took the time to do all the extra little things to bring my hair back to life and the maximise the life of the cut and color. She also offered free bang trims between visits.
She recommended some great product (but not in the «I-​just-​want-​you-​to-​buy-​some-​extra-​crap» kind of way) and gave me some great info on the products she used on my hair through the visit.
Plus, she’s just a cool girl and a good conversationalist. The complimentary wine didn’t hurt either.
My hair feels amazing. Check her out, she’s killer.
