Nice casual restaurant that is surprisingly larger than it looks!
Comfort food at reasonable prices. A good option for brunch as well since you can make reservations and wait times are reasonable without one (about 30 mins). The menu is small but the eggs and frittatas I’ve had have been good. Roasted potatoes are excellent!

Great restaurant! Nice staff, great ambiance and great food! We had a cheese plate, half roasted chicken an a banana Monte cristo for three and it was just great!

Would have given 3.5 stars if an option. Very cute space and atmosphere, hostess was friendly and so was the waitress, although not very knowledgeable about the menu (she was unable to explain the different types of meats and cheeses available). Food was ok but for the price I was expecting better. We enjoyed the charcuterie plate but the brussel sprouts were not impressive and the chicken skin was very greasy.

Always come for lunch :) food is very good! Love the daily soup, service is good too!

Excellent Brunch location.
The venue is beautiful inside, really reminds me of Manhattan Upper West Side eateries: Tiled floors, brass fixtures, dark wood, Parisian staff uniforms etc. It’s also got a wonderfully uneven layout, so you can have very varied experience depending where you sit. Personally, I’m a big fan of the rear bar area.
Food wise, the brunch menu has most of the staple options you’d expect with one or two options you usually don’t come across. In particular the Maple Chicken Cobbler is grand.
You could stand in line at Café Medina for three days before you get to sniff a tagine, of you could just come here instead.

Was there for brunch. Really good food and timely service. Would come back again! The only thing I would change is not to sit us next to the plates so we had to move our faces anytimes a new table had to be set with these plates.

Homer St Café does comfort food that’s simple looking but what you pay for is the great flavors.
I wasn’t impressed the first time I came when I just ordered their roast chicken because even though it tasted pretty good (great taste, juicy, fall off the bone easy to eat), it was pricey for the portion size ($ 20 for ¼ size which is basically 2 pcs). I ended up leaving thinking I just spent $ 20 on 2pcs of chicken and I am still not full??? I mean, it was probably one of the best rotisserie chickens I’ve had but still.
I’m glad I returned because when you eat more than just their chicken, you get a lot more different flavors in your meal and a lot more full for not too much more $/​pp — so bring people here so you can share more plates (and get the full size chicken since its more reasonably priced for what you get)! And for a carnivore who avoids veggies normally, that’s not the case at Homer St Café; here I actually like and order their salads. The duck beet salad was our fave but they changed their menu so I didn’t see it in my recent visit. And their desserts are pretty satisfying here too– we had the pumpkin brulee with carrot cake recently and that was fantastic! I would go back just for the dessert. Their menu changes every so often but I haven’t been disappointed by any of their desserts yet.
There’s 2 sections to Homer St Café and the main entrance is actually not on the corner of Homer and Smithe, but further in on Smithe. There are stairs to their main entrance so those with strollers will need assistance– I forgot the carrier a few times but the hostess’ have always been super-​friendly about coming out to help me lift the stroller in. Space is tight in the restaurant (lots of chairs/​tables and not a lot of room to walk/​stroll a stroller) but they do have highchairs to accommodate the little one.

we came on a Friday night, walking in… it gave me a really cozy feeling. staff were friendly and nice!
we ordered the rotisserie chicken with some sides — brussel sprouts, mushrooms, potatoes, maple bacon pork belly (might have been a part of the appy menu). too bad they were out the stuffed peppers on the special menu. they were also out of the soup! the chicken was surprisingly really yum and i’ll definitely come back for it again.
desserts we tried pb cookies and nutella and the yogurt panna cotta. both were just delish!

Great food. Great portions. Great service. It may not be my favorite place to eat in Vancouver but they’ve never disappointed me. Their reliability and quality make them one of the best in their class.
You won’t find a better roast chicken in the city but often their roast of the day is the most exciting dish so be sure to check out their specials menu. Be sure to remember that the portions here are ample so don’t go overboard on the sides and appetizers (however tempting they might be).

I came here for a friends birthday, in which we had a party of about 15 people. We ended up getting the family style dinner which is a number of different appies, main courses and dessert.
The rotisserie chicken was delicous and a must try. Favorite side dish was the brussel sprout bagna cauda.
I would have to say I enjoyed it very much. The amount was perfect, and the food was overall very tasty. I believe the dessert if I remember correctly was a peanut butter cookie and nutella cream, that was SO good.
If you’re looking for a place to have a small get together or party, homer st café is definitely a place to go.

So I went here on Friday night and was surprised my friend chose this place at first glance. Lol.
First off… this is really a 3.5 out of five.
When I entered it had a very old school café look, but not necessarily in a good way. Though once you venture in, it’s a bit better. We were seated on the patio which was quite nice. It was well heated too.
We ordered the cheese plate, which was very nice. Our waitress though didn’t know anything about what she was serving us. She knew less about cheese than we did.
Next we chose the full rotisserie chicken along with the sides: salad, potatoes, mushrooms and gravy. It was quite delicious, I must say. It’s low brow food done well. I finished everything on my plate. So I would definetly reccomend that.
For dessert we had the pb cookies with Nutella cream. It was yummy. We also ordered a pumpkin crème brûlée. I loved it. Then again, I love pumpkin. Lastly we had the carrot cake, which was blah. It wasn’t sweet at all. We took a bite, and left it.
So I do see my self coming here again because the food was good. The customer service was good and friendly but I don’t know… something was missing. Knowledge maybe. Lol

After watching a movie, we strolled down Smithe St and we came upon Homer St.
The place was astonishingly big with private rooms. We had the roast pork, the gnudi, halibut and scallops. They were good. We had sides of the crispy chicken skin and Brussels sprouts. The chicken skin was deadly. You could feel that cholesterol go down your throat but it was sinfully good. The Brussels sprouts were better roasted than blanched.
The desserts were not to my liking. I like my dessert to be rich with intense flavours.
We’d come back here for their specialty: the rotisserie chicken.

Came here for a spontaneous lunch, and man… I’m going to be back very soon. They have a Fresh Sheet with a different roast, sandwich, salad and soup option everyday. Today was definitely my sandwich day: Lamb with smoked cheddar, serrano and lemon aioli on rye. It was a done deal. I was coming in for lunch!
I sat down at a window sill, which I might consider BEST SEAT IN THE HOUSE. It was so lovely to have the gentle breeze in your face while you enjoy a delicious lunch. I was hoping for some tea latte options, but they don’t have any of those. It’s just coffees and steeped tea. They might want to look into that.
Let’s get down to business. The lamb sandwich. HOLY. LAMB. Was it just my imagination or was there fat on the lamb? No, there really was — and it was glorious. The fatty slices of juicy, juicy lamb on a bed of thinly sliced smoked cheddar covered in that delicious lemon aioli dressing… and the serrano! The serrano! It was so fine and just sprinkled in the sandwich that it gave the sandwich the tiniest, most pleasant kick. Yes, the rye was toasted. It was the most delicious sandwich I’ve had in a while! Now, unfortunately, it was on the Fresh Sheet, so who knows when I will see this marvel of a sandwich again?
The lunch sandwich also comes with your choice of soup [of the day] or salad. For me, it was the Cream of Carrot. It was a delightful cup of soup. The croutons were crunchy and even a little… sweet? I thought that was interesting — in the best way. Soup was great, with a hint of spice. I don’t always opt for Cream of Carrot, but this I can do!
I sat with my laptop for a while more and felt peckish. Something on the menu had caught my eye at first glance and that was their Fried Chickpeas and Crisps. Cooomme ooonn. So, I placed my order for a snack. It came with three different kinds of crisps: Plantain, Taro, and get this… Chicken Skin. I felt very naughty. It was delicious. The crisps to hummus ratio was questionable. I found myself spooning the hummus with plantain crisps a few times. Perhaps, a few more pieces of crisps from now on?
Another day: I came back for lunch and this is now officially one of my favourite lunch spots on a rainy Vancouver day.

Went here with my 2 girlfriends for lunch right as they were opening so we were seated right away without a reservation. Walking in, the first thing I noticed was how cute this place was! I love marble table tops, and their décor was minimalistic yet seemingly well thought out. I felt like I was in the Upper East Side. The space was separated from the bar area and the dining area, and we sat in the latter facing the open kitchen. The staff was very attentive, and friendly, and our waitress did a great job explaining the menu to us. We went with the whole rotisserie chicken to share, and a Seared Tuna salad.
To start off, the salad was so fresh. I’m pretty sure the tomatoes were the best I’ve ever had. There were 3 thick chunks of nicely seared albacore. A great starter if you want something that feels light.
The chicken comes with potatoes, cole slaw, and au jus. Ummmm the cole slaw was sooooo good. The perfect amount of tang with the most crisp crunch. The chicken itself was also flavored pretty well, and the meat was quite tender. We were stuffed after one piece of chicken and had to box the rest up along with some potatoes.
Great quality of food and portion sizes. I will definitely come back!

J’habite au pied de ce restaurant et je n’avais jamais pris le temps d’y rentrer car ça me paraissait très/​trop chic… Une fois n’est pas coutume, avec 2 amies on se le tente! Et bien pas déçue du tout! Un peu cher mais il faut payer le cadre et les designers qui ont fait la superbe déco!
Nous étions sur la terrasse et c’était très agréable tout comme le service :) et puis surement plus calme qu’à l’intérieur…
Niveau nourriture ce né sont pas d’énorme portions, c’est cher, mais c’est délicieux!
De mon côté, j’ai testé les «baked ricotta gnudi, swiss chard, tomato, parmesan», très bon, vraiment gras mais qui a du goût :)
Mes potes avaient pris des sandwich, très bons aussi par contre pas super bourratif…

The food here is amazing. Either with a group or for a romantic evening, highly recommend this place. The roast chicken is Devine and the others roast meets are great too. Great dining experience.

Even though we had no reservations, they accommodated DH and I at a table that was already reserved — but for an hour and a half from when we arrived — plenty of time for us! The atmosphere was first class and the service was friendly and efficient.
DH had wine from British Columbia, the sirloin steak and a side of mushrooms. He said they were excellent. I had the Crispy Fried Chicken legs and wings appetizer and a green leaf, radish, cucumber, tomato lemon poppy seed vinaigrette dressing. At first, I complained that the chicken was too dark for me and sent it back. The cook explained that it was because they simply fried pieces from their rotisserie chicken — that was also on the menu — and it couldn’t be made any lighter. I relented and the chicken turned out to be very tasty after all & crispy!
A good meal.

Nothing to write home about. The «Meatless Monday» risotto was memorable, but the rotisserie chicken had skin that was not crispy but rather soggy. The chicken meat was moist and good, however.
My partner liked the maple butter pork cheek, so we recommend that. But as a Chinese person, I could buy a whole box of delicious BBQ pork with crispy skin for $ 7 – 8. And it’s sad that I was thinking this while eating here.
Some redeeming factors: the coleslaw served as a side to the chicken was excellent. Our server was a very informative, patient lady. The servers were kind enough to move together two tables for us to accommodate the amount of food we ordered. That’s about it for our visit.
I’m saddened at how badly my mimosa tasted. $ 10 for a mimosa and I can get a better one at Medina Café or a more delicious AND cheaper one for $ 8 at Chambar Café… Isn’t this a brunch place? Seemed like they mixed boxed orange juice with just vodka.
I was excited to try this place for brunch but sadly my first impression did not meet or exceed my expectations. Perhaps we’ll be back for another try someday… but for the price paid for two mains/​a side/​and two drinks, there are better eats at a better value elsewhere (and I’m talking a nice brunch with drinks).

I am a huge fan of this restaurant. The staff are great, the décor is beautiful and the food is amazing. I have been there three times and loved each visit. The cheese plate is fantastic, the chicken pea dip is wonderful and I also tried the rotisserie chicken which was also amazing.
This restaurant is excellent for special events, a little pricey for everyday visits but worth every penny!

I’ve been to Homer St. Café for both dinner and lunch and I definitely prefer the lunch. Their lunch menu has a couple different specials and then 2 sandwich options that include a salad or soup pairing. The soup flavors rotate but is always delicious! Thick, rich and flavorful, I’ve never been disappointed and can credit them for the best tomato soup I’ve ever tasted.
Service is spot-​on. Friendly, attentive, and best of all my water glass is always filled. The space itself is interesting with one part of it near the kitchen so you can see all the chefs working away. The other side is more of a traditional dining room with high ceilings, a bar area and an elevated private room.
My dinner experiences were just average. Nothing was terrible, but nothing was outstanding. My last bill for a table of 2 was well over $ 150 (drinks, appetizers, entrees). For that price, I’d probably go elsewhere. Lunch is priced much more moderately and you can get out for under $ 20 a person.
Pro-​tip: Their lavender lemonade is a nice alternative to booze and refreshing.

We Drove by here at the Homer Street Café and it reminded me of the good dinners that I’ve had there. Good service, love the way the two sides of the restaurant have different formats. Classic east coast dining style, very metropolitan and good service. The smell of the roasting chicken is enough to make you drool, then you ad the ambiance.
It’s the perfect place to dine with a close friend or date.
I like the sides the most and if you’re not a meat eater, there are vegetarian choices for you that are decent.
A review on the food alone can’t be fair on the rating I’m giving. I’ve been here and have had a perfect 5 and other times, I’ve had an ok, but things were a bit salty. So my overall experience here is a solid A-​OK and that’s good.
Maybe a few more visits here and I can kick it back up to a solid 4.
I think that’s what my previous reviews were over the past couple of years.
But really, it’s the chicken you’re here for. :) bonne appetite!
