Hillcrest

Really good guys, came on time and were very careful while they worked. I was installing a cupboard and had to cut the wall to get it to fit, I cut a water line by accident, everything was getting wet an I couldn’t figure out how to get it to stop, hill crest guys talked me through over the phone and helped me find the main shutoff. Then sent a plumber out within a couple hours and fixed the cut pipe quite quickly, price was as to be expected for a plumber, would have no problems calling these guys again in future.

Hillcrest is the only company that I can trust with any of my plumbing issues. They are quick to respond to requests, extremely knowledgable and honest in terms of the work that is needed. I also appreciate the fact that they use the highest quality materials and pay attention to detail. I’ve been using them for years and have recommended them to my friends as well. The negative reviews on here are completely unfounded. I would give them a try, you won’t be disappointed.

Came to get some simple work done at the place I work at in May for $ 49.05. Good customer service, bad hand writing on the invoice. This was for parts, not service, therefore, this review reflects that.

We used Hillcrest once before and the service was adequate. This time round, I call as my Navien tankless water system has stopped working. The answering service takes my call as it is before business hours. I politely wait until 11am before I ring them again. They schedule someone for the next day and he turns up in the last 15 minutes before the four-​hour window wraps… on a Friday at 4pm. The tech is pleasant but can’t determine the issue. He spends a good deal of the 35 minutes he his here on his phone. And then voila, it’s fixed. Basically, I think he has just rebooted the system because that’s what he told me to do if it happens again. So, I have a shower, put the dishwasher on, and my husband comes home to hop in the shower, and bam — no hot water. We reboot the system. It works for a moment, and then nothing. I call Hillcrest, (it’s now after hours) and they ask if I want an emergency plumber, to which I respond no, I’ll wait till tomorrow ($ 249 an hour for emergency service). I again, politely wait until mid-​morning to call as no one has returned my call. I reiterate my issue and am told someone will call me back. I NEVER HEAR FROM THEM AGAIN. Seriously? I mean, seriously? Don’t waste your money.

called around to get a pricing for replacement of my basement bathroom vanity sink and faucet. The first service person I spoke to on the phone sounded friendly and direct with the estimate of time and price. He told me it would take about 1 ½ hr to remove old sink and replace with my own provided new sink and faucet. I would be charge $ 110 per hour. I decided to go with them since Mr. Rooter quoted me the price for the job as being $ 400! Other plumbing places I called charged by the ¾ hour, ½ hour etc but wouldn’t give me a clear estimate of the time it would take to do the job but told me it would range from 2 – 4 hours depending if I helped the technician or not! Hillcrest booked me for the following week for the time of anywhere between 1 – 4 pm. When the day came, I called at about 3 and 3:30 pm as I was worried no one was going to show up and my elderly mother depended on the basement bathroom for her personal needs. The first guy that answered sounded sympathetic and said they’ll try to have someone come asap. The second time I called, the next guy on the phone was very non-​empathetic. He was cold and and impatient. He kept repeating that the tech was already given his job order and will come once he finished his previous job, and that was that!
The tech Sean came at 3;40 pm. He was polite and easy to talk to but walked right into my carpeted basement without taking off his work boots. He removed my old vanity sink but in the process of removing it, he cracked a couple of the counter tiles surrounding it. Given the counter is old, I cringed and suggested to him that perhaps he could use silicone to seal the cracked tiles for me. He agreed, went to his truck and slather silicone onto the cracked tiles. When he took out the new sink from the box, he struggled with application of the rubber sealant for the rim of the sink so I assisted him by holding on the the sides while he struggled to stretch the sealant around the sink with difficulty. At the end, he finally gave up because the rubber sealant kept falling off – he said he’ll just use silicone instead. I provided paper towels for him to wipe his hands of the messy silicone and he thanked me for it. I asked if silicone will do the same job as the rubber sealant and he assured me that it would. He proceeded to insert the new sink into the space and tightened clamps, etc.
He completed the job in an hour and he thanked me for assisting him. I appreciated that he had done the job within an hour and paid $ 110 plus tax and $ 15 for some mystery miscellaneous/​truck cost? Ended up paying total of about $ 137. In all fairness to Sean, he was polite; answered any questions that I had but I wish that the company has a policy that requires their employees to wear slip-​on shoe protectors like other companies so as to not soil homeowners’ flooring. Also, the company should be more diplomatic and respectful on the phone with customers’ concerns about scheduling and timing of the arrival of their techs. We all need to be a bit more human towards others when special circumstances come into play and to recognize that it’s not easy for people to wait around for several hours when there are things always going on in their lives.

Went in for a T-​valve for a DIY install. Simple piece for a simple project, but after some questioning the Parts attendant felt it wasn’t «up to code» and said he wouldn’t sell me the valve. II wasn’t sure how it was any of their business what I want to do with the part, and I left frustrated.

Terrible experience with these guys. I booked a time with whoever schedules their visits and was told the appointment is between 11am-​1pm. I get a call at 1:15pm telling me the tech won’t be able to make it out for another hour. She claims we scheduled it from noon-​2pm and didn’t take any fault at all, even though I wrote it down right after I booked it. I later called and asked to speak to a manager to let them know of my experience, left a voicemail for the manager and was never called back. Brutal.

Had to get some pipe cut to length. The ended up just exchanging them for pre-​cut lengths. Super fast and friendly. Wonderful plumbing supply shop

Worst ever. Poor quality work, terrible customer service, inflated prices. Nothing good whatsoever. Please do yourself a favor and look elsewhere.

A little bit confusing business. The plumbing is different fr the heating & different people own different parts of the business. Nevertheless they are trying to ride on the coat tails of a long established company name. Of course they failed b/​c a simple thing such as setting up an appt. for an estimate & they failed to show. Dave was the guy that was to come to our house. We asked for a Saturday appt. He said sure & he ll call Sat. morning to set the time. I said to my wife he s not going to show. Who in business sets appts on the day of?. Doesnt he have a book, a calendar, a cell phone that he cant set the time while we were on the phone. Saturday came & we waited to 12 noon before we went out. When we got home no call no message nothing. A $ 10 000 job going to someone else. Guess they dont need or want our business.

re: Service Calls
Readying our bathroom for tile so I pull the toilet and notice that the lead soil pipe has cracked. I remove the flange ring and all of the old wax but given the fact that it’s lead, I call Hillcrest to come have a look; which they did…
A tech arrives to assess the situation, nods, and then leaves to get his tools. When he returns he parks his arse on the edge of my tub and stares at the problem for 15 – 20 minutes before deciding there was nothing to be done until concrete is poured around the pipe.
So the concrete needs repairing; perhaps that should have been immediately evident. But instead I’m charged nearly $ 200! The invoice lists $ 15 for phantom materials that were never used and $ 170 for labour described as «removed broken brass flange» — the very same flange that I had removed the day before! No other labour is noted for obvious reasons.
Hillcrest eventually responded to my messages contesting the amount and credited back $ 75, an appreciated gesture comparable to a hotel thief stealing your clothes but leaving a pair of underwear.
At the end of the day, I paid $ 120 for a guy to sit in my bathroom and do nothing. That doesn’t sit well with me despite it being better than paying $ 200 for a guy to sit in my bathroom and do nothing.
Use Hillcrest at your peril. I will never use them again.

We spent all day looking for a part for a kitchen tap and every where we were being told that we had to replace the whole tap. We went to hillcrest and we got the part we needed in less than 5 minutes. I would highly recommend this place for any bathroom or kitchen parts.

I wanted to review these guys here because I think they are getting a bad deal on Unilocal.Today I’ve had another experience with Hillcrest — this one being novel because this is the first time they have come to my house!
On previous occasions I have stopped by their store, unfortunately only after spending countless hours wasting my time looking for a competent/​capable/​any individual at either of the big home retailers here in the city. Each time I stop by this store, it is a breath of fresh air, compared to stale intellect I was inhaling in the bigger stores (when I was luckily enough to find any!)
These guys have solved every one of my plumbing problems and they did it with a smile and with efficiency that I could not have imagined. I think that I’ve finally got it through my head that I should just visit here first whenever I have a plumbing problem, and I would recommend that you do the same.
As for home service, I was just as happy. I got a couple of friendly young guys (Ben + ?) who were also efficient and solved my problem in a reasonable amount of time. I scheduled them for Wed afternoon and as promised they appeared and left before 4PM.
All in all, these are my goto guys for plumbing and I am happy to pay a higher price for their wisdom any day of the week.

Lesson learned — I should have checked Unilocal first. These guys are in my neighbourhood so I called ‘em up to run a gas line for my BBQ. Initially slated to come on Wednesday, but when I called in the afternoon for a time estimate, they said they were too busy and rescheduled for Friday.
Friday came and went — no gas-​fitter, and no call.
Anyone know of an alternative? These guys clearly aren’t on the ball.

RIP-​OFF! Plumber was lazy, took way too long, wasted a lot of time, and pulled numbers out of his ass to OVER charge me. Oh, and he LIED to me, too, about checking something.
Friend’s mother had a similar experience.

I have had to use these guys and not only are they never ever on time, they lie and complain about working.
I’ve had several plumbing problems in the past couple months and always called Hillcrest because a friend of mine said they were reliable.
They said they would be in the next day at 8:30am AND they would call before they came. Not only did I have to skip work to wait for them, but they didn’t even call until 1:30pm only to tell me that they would not be there until 4:30pm!
When Sean did arrive he was rude and did not apologize for being late. Then, after 5 min. he left saying he had to go to the store and pick up a part. An hour later he called, said the store was closed and he would have to come back again.
Usually I would give people and businesses the benefit of the doubt, but this is not the only time this has happened. The exact same situation happened a couple months later, which is why I have to give them such a crappy review.
Oh ya, if you’re a woman they will basically assume you are deaf, dumb and stupid so make sure you are on your guard and ready to put up a fight, otherwise they will totally take advantage of you.
